Red Moon Rising is a limited-time PvE Dark Zone event where Agents face Black Tusk forces while experiencing unusual changes to their SHD tech. Its central mechanic revolves around Red Moon Stacks, which accumulate the longer you remain inside the PvE Dark Zone.

As your stack count increases, you receive a combination of increasingly powerful buffs and dangerous drawbacks. This creates a risk-and-reward system where staying under the Red Moon can provide greater benefits while also making your run more challenging.

Build Red Moon Stacks During Your Run

Red Moon Stacks accumulate while you remain inside the PvE Dark Zone. Increasing your stack count introduces a mixture of positive and negative effects that change the conditions of your run.

Your accumulated stacks only last for that run. Dying, leaving the PvE Dark Zone, or successfully securing contaminated loot resets the stack count, requiring you to build it again during your next attempt.

Manage the Red Moon Risk and Reward

Staying inside the Dark Zone for longer allows your Red Moon Stacks to continue increasing. The growing benefits are accompanied by increasingly dangerous drawbacks, forcing you to balance additional power against greater risk.

Safehouses provide another way to control this mechanic. Entering one pauses stack accumulation until you leave the safe area and return under the Red Moon.

Farm Dedicated Red Moon Rising Loot Pools

Players willing to take on the event's more dangerous encounters can access dedicated reward pools. Available loot includes Exotics, DZ Named items, curated Named items, and Prototype gear.

The exact item you receive depends on the relevant in-game loot pool and reward mechanics. Completing event encounters therefore provides opportunities to farm valuable gear without implying that every random item is guaranteed from an individual run.

Get Vertigo, Sarru, and the Recruiter Mask

Two new Exotics are featured among the Red Moon Rising rewards: Vertigo and Sarru. These items provide additional targets for Agents exploring the event and its more challenging encounters.
