AION 2: Where to Start After the Global Launch
The Global Launch at a Glance
AION 2 launched globally on October 5, 2026 as a free-to-play PC game on Steam and the PURPLE launcher. Founder's Pack owners got early access from September 30 to October 4, and pack sales closed on launch day. Steam concurrency peaked above 397,000 players on the first evening, so servers are crowded.
The story takes place 200 years after the first AION. You play as an Elyos or an Asmodian, start in separate regions and later meet in large-scale faction battles. You can fly across the whole map rather than only in special zones, which shapes everything from collecting items to planning quest routes.
The key point for a newcomer: the Global level cap is 45, and real character growth begins after it. Below: classes, the road to the cap, gear, progression systems, activities and a few tips that save Kinah and time.
Classes and Roles
Eight classes are available at launch. A ninth, Brawler (Fistmaster), is already live in the Korean and Taiwanese versions, but it is not in the Global launch roster and no date has been announced.

Class | Role | Playstyle |
|---|---|---|
Gladiator | Tank / melee DPS | Two-handed sword, durability and damage in one class. |
Templar | Main tank | Sword and shield, holds aggro, lots of HP, valued in groups. |
Assassin | Melee DPS | Short burst windows, stealth and positioning. |
Ranger | Ranged DPS | Mobile archer that fits almost any content. |
Sorcerer | Magic DPS | Fire and frost, high damage but thin defenses. |
Elementalist | Magic DPS | Summons spirits for damage, healing and taunts. |
Cleric | Main healer | Direct heals, cleanses and resurrection. |
Chanter | Support / healer | Mantras, shields and party buffs, heals less than Cleric. |
Pick by feel rather than the current meta, since you will spend hundreds of hours on this class. For the simplest entry look at Ranger. If you want to be welcome in any group, take Templar or Cleric.
Leveling to 45 and Gearing Up
Most experience comes from the main story, with its quests marked in yellow. Regional quests, Sealed Dungeons and Strongholds (question marks on the map) give less XP but bring gear, materials and Daevanion progress. Do not skip them: they keep strengthening your character.

Gear is improved through Enhancement, using enhancement stones and Kinah. According to player calculators, Unique items are safe up to +10, after which the odds drop roughly like this: about two thirds for +11, then 50%, 35%, 25% and 20% up to +15. The calculators also show a bonus for each failure that resets after a success. Costs depend on item level.
Gear is replaced every few levels while leveling, so save upgrade resources for level 45. Other item systems:
Manastones add stats.
Godstones are socketed into weapons for combat effects.
Soul Binding lets you reroll extra stats and lock the ones you want.
Inheritance carries part of the progress from an old item to a new one.
An enhanced item can be extracted to recover the enhancement stones, but Kinah and Manastones are not refunded.
Character Progression Systems
After level 45 your power comes from several independent systems. Some unlock during leveling, and the sooner you understand them, the less you need to catch up on.

Skills and Stigmas. Each class has its own active and passive skills. Stigmas customize the class further, for example Fracturing Rush for Gladiator, Shadowstep for Assassin, Reincarnating Touch for Cleric and Barrier Spell for Chanter. The Korean and Taiwanese versions have already grown to six Stigma slots; Global limits may differ.
Daevanion. Permanent boards of linked nodes, starting with Nezekan, Zikel, Vaizel and Triniel. Nodes give stats or raise skill levels, and the points come from regional quests, Sealed Dungeons and other map content.
Feathers and Monoliths. Feathers found while exploring are delivered to Monoliths for stats and resources, including skill points. Collect them on the way rather than in a dedicated run.
Pets and mounts. Many creatures can be collected as pets and used as mounts. Monsters killed along the way feed fragments into the system, and its progress grants combat bonuses.
Arcana. Cards from Transcendence raise skills and stats and add set bonuses.
Wings. Wings are not only for flight and looks, they are part of stat progression too.
Substance Morphing. Turns some materials and items into other progression resources. It works more like a converter than a regular profession.
PvE and PvP
NC says the game holds more than 200 dungeons across its formats. Global Season 1 offers six Expedition dungeons, two Transcendence dungeons, Abyssal Forge Ludra, Nightmare, Ascension Trials and field bosses.

Sealed Dungeons and Strongholds. Short solo challenges inside faction territory.
Nightmare and Ascension Trial. Solo challenges with rising difficulty.
Expedition. The main five-player group format: gear, Kinah and materials.
Transcendence. A seasonal five-player challenge and the source of Arcana.
10-player raid. It is called Sanctuary in the Korean version. During the October 7 maintenance the raid was temporarily removed from Global, so check the patch notes.
PvP revolves around the Abyss, Arena, Battlefield and Spacetime Rift. The Abyss is the main faction zone where Elyos and Asmodians fight over bosses, artifacts and Abyss Points. A Spacetime Rift takes you into enemy territory, which holds extra Sealed Dungeons, Strongholds and quests. War Mode determines whether PvP is enabled during the trip.
Crafting and Economy
Life skills split into Essence Extraction (ore, gems, plants, logs and Odyle) and Crafting. Crafting has five professions: Blacksmithing, Armorsmithing, Handicrafting, Alchemy and Cooking. Some high-end PvE gear comes from crafting, and consumables and materials can be sold.
The game is free, but there is a paid membership at about $14.99 per 30 days, tied to a server. In Global, buying on the Market and using the Kina-Quna exchange require membership, while free players can still list items for sale. Personal trading is not available in Global. Pick a server together with friends, because membership is tied to a specific server.
The Founder's Pack is no longer on sale: the $24.99, $49.99 and $99.99 packs gave five days of early access and mostly cosmetics. Since the October 7 patch the cosmetics work on other characters and servers, and missing items can be claimed in a special shop.
Tips for the First Days
Do not rush to the Market. On fresh servers supply is small and prices are inflated. Later, compare the price per item, not per stack.
Set up auto-extraction. Enable it only for disposable gear and lock valuable items. Also bind a key for targeting hostile players.
Kill mobs on the way. Pet fragments accumulate on their own and no kill is wasted.
Save Kinah. Enhancement, crafting, stat rerolls and the Market all drain it. A reserve at level 45 gives you flexibility.
Level Essence Extraction early. Rare materials need a high gathering level, and it grows on its own while questing.
Settings. For big battles lower mass-combat quality and enable identical player appearances. Minimum specs are a GTX 1050 Ti and Ryzen 5 2600, recommended are an RTX 2070 and Ryzen 7 3700X, and you need about 100 GB of space.
