AION 2 Skill Progression: Points, Daevanion, Arcana and Stigmas
Why skills level in several stages in AION 2
AION 2 has no single scale for leveling skills. A skill's level is the sum of several systems: Skill Points, Daevanion Boards, Arcana Cards and gear traits. Stigma Skills run on a separate track with their own currency. The Global version launched on October 5 with a level cap of 45, so all of these systems are available now.
The key point to grasp early: according to community guides, Skill Points take Active and Passive Skills up to level 10, and the other systems take over from there. Levels 16 and 20 are the milestones that matter most for the skills your build depends on: the last Specialty and an extra slot unlock there.
Maxing everything is not realistic, since there are not enough resources or character levels for it. This guide is built around priorities: what to level first and where the resources come from.
Skill Points: the foundation up to level 10
Every skill starts at level 1, and Skill Points raise it to 10. Per community guides, that is a hard cap for points, and they stop working beyond it. Players say most points come from main story quests and Sealed Dungeons, so there is no need to chase them on purpose early on.

Spreading points evenly is a mistake. At the start you can pick whatever feels fun in combat, but by the midgame you should shift toward the skills your build runs on.
Active Skills are the buttons you press in combat. Their level affects damage and effects, and it also unlocks Specialties.
Passive Skills work in the background and strengthen your class. Per community guides, a single point already turns the bonus on, so early on a minimum is enough.
Stigmas are a separate category and do not use Skill Points.
Daevanion, Arcana and gear: levels past 10
When Skill Points hit their cap, Daevanion Boards step in. Community guides describe the first four boards as holding skill nodes: blue nodes boost Active Skills and green nodes boost Passive Skills. Each skill appears on each of those boards, which adds up to four extra levels, taking a skill from 10 to 14. Daevanion Crystals that unlock the nodes mostly come from side quests, as players describe it.

From there the progression becomes targeted. Arcana Cards add levels to specific Active or Passive Skills, so cards should be matched to your build rather than collected blindly. The main source is Transcendence, seasonal five-player content that started with Season 1. Rarity is not the point: a card that boosts your Active Skills is usually worth more.
The other route is gear. Per community guides, gear traits can offer more than plain stats like Attack or HP and can also add skill levels. When Arcana alone falls short of the 16 or 20 milestone, this route fills the gap. Which items offer which bonuses depends on the specific traits, so look at what actually drops instead of planning everything in advance.
Specialties: why levels 8, 12, 16 and 20 matter
Active Skills are not leveled for damage alone. At certain levels they unlock Specialties, modifiers that change how a skill behaves: longer range, added crowd control, shorter cooldowns or a new interaction.

Each Active Skill has five Specialties, but no more than three can be active at once. Per community guides, the milestones look like this:
Skill level | What unlocks |
|---|---|
8 | First Specialties and the first slot |
12 | Fourth Specialty and the second slot |
16 | Fifth Specialty |
20 | Third Specialty slot |
The practical takeaway is simple: pick the two or three skills you press most or that define your damage and control, and push them to level 16 first. The rest can sit at the 8 or 12 milestone, where the first Specialties and the second slot are already available. That brings a noticeable power gain without wasted spending.
For your best Active Skills, level 16 is the main target, since the fifth Specialty appears there. Level 20 adds the third slot, so three effects can run together, but do not chase it for every skill.
Stigmas: a separate upgrade track
Stigmas are not affected by Skill Points, Daevanion, Arcana or gear traits. They use their own currency, Stigma Shards. Per community guides, each class has 13 Stigma Skills but only four usable slots at the start, so choosing the right Stigmas for your build matters as much as leveling them.

Players describe shards as sold in several shops: the Abyss Shop, the Shugo Festival Shop and the Nightmare Shop, with the Abyss Shop named as the main source. The Abyss itself opens at level 45 with an Item Level of 1,000, so serious Stigma leveling is an endgame task. In Season 1 the Stigma level cap is 20, according to the same guides.
Newcomers can set Stigmas aside: get the core Active Skills in order first.
A step-by-step order from level 1 to endgame
A simple sequence works, where each step builds on the last.
Bring your core Active Skills to level 10 with Skill Points.
Put a point into the Passive Skills you want, to switch on their bonuses.
Unlock nodes on the first four Daevanion Boards and lift key skills to 14.
Collect Arcana Cards for your build's skills and aim for level 16.
Fill the remaining gaps with gear traits, then try for 20.
At endgame, bring in Stigmas and shards.
In a party, let your role guide the choice: a tank benefits more from control and defensive skills, a damage dealer from the main attack buttons. The same logic fits any class, for example the Spiritmaster.
That keeps resources away from skills you barely use, and the power gain shows up sooner.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
The biggest mistake is leveling everything evenly. If points and cards are scattered across ten skills, none of them reaches a Specialty milestone. Focus on the few skills that make up your main rotation.
The second is skipping Passive Skills: per community guides, the bonus turns on with the first point, so passing on it is lost strength.
The third is chasing card rarity. A card that boosts your Active Skill is often better than a rarer card for a skill you rarely press.
Finally, do not mix up Stigmas with regular skills. Before spending resources, check which system actually gives the level you need.
What to remember
A skill level in AION 2 is a stack of layers: Skill Points, Daevanion, Arcana and gear. Stigmas live apart and wait for the endgame. Plan around the 8, 12, 16 and 20 milestones and invest only in the skills your build runs on.
