Apex Legends Ranked explained: RP, entry costs, resets and rewards

Apex Legends Ranked measures match results through Ranked Points, or RP. Progress depends on placement, eliminations and bonuses, while entering a match costs points. Identical kill counts therefore do not guarantee identical gains, and repeated early exits become more expensive at higher ranks.

This guide covers access, matchmaking, divisions, entry costs, RP scoring, resets and rewards. It applies to Core Ranked and was checked against EA's current guide and the Marked Midseason schedule. Values were not carried over merely because an older season used the same mode name.

Before a session, check your rank, landing format and premade squad. Then choose a plan: start sensibly, secure eliminations together and preserve the chance of a higher placement. Playing more matches does not itself guarantee promotion.

Unlocking Ranked

Access uses Road to Ranked Challenges. New players below level 20 need to complete this system: it contains three challenge sets and all must be finished. Players who had access before Road to Ranked retain it. Do not treat an older instruction to simply reach a level as a universal substitute for checking account challenges.

Open the available list and examine each requirement. If a counter fails to advance, check the condition and mode before repeating matches. Learning weapons, pings and squad recovery in Unranked is more useful than rushing into Ranked while your controls remain unfamiliar.

Matchmaking, starting rank and premade squads

Matchmaking uses current RP. Initial placement uses a hidden skill assessment: new Ranked participants draw on Unranked Trios, while returning participants use Ranked skill. This is not a public formula that lets you calculate placement from one account statistic.

Premade squad members must be within two ranks of one another. The restriction applies to Duos and Trios, and matchmaking uses the highest RP in the squad. Bronze, for example, can join Rookie, Bronze, Silver and Gold players, but not Platinum or above. Being able to invite a friend into the lobby does not guarantee Ranked eligibility together.

Discuss pace and responsibilities before queueing. A less experienced player particularly needs to understand when to retreat. Helping a squad means coordinated play rather than arranging outcomes with opponents: fair-play rules still apply.

Every rank and division

The rank sequence is Rookie, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond and Master. Apex Predator identifies the top 750 Master players on each platform. That leaderboard is competitive; reaching a threshold once does not secure the position permanently.

Below Master, progression runs from IV to I before entering IV of the next rank. Adjacent divisions require different RP gains. The table reproduces EA’s published gains per step rather than cumulative account thresholds. EA’s listed Silver steps and the split-reset values below do not produce a fully consistent total. Do not treat the table as a verified universal scale: plan your next promotion using the RP requirement displayed in your game interface.

Ranked progression is separate on PC and console. Different generations of the same console count as the same platform. Check the platform before comparing a Predator position or your own progress.

After progressing out of Rookie, you cannot be placed back into this introductory tier.

Account for entry cost when evaluating earned points. An illustrative 70 RP earned against a 48 RP entry cost produces a net gain of 22 RP. This is arithmetic rather than a promised reward for a particular placement. Earning less than the entry cost reduces your balance.

More expensive early exits change the value of risk. Before fighting, assess the route, support and ability to finish contact. Trying to recover lost points at any cost in the next aggressive drop does not reduce the price of another mistake.

How RP is awarded

Scoring considers squad placement, personal kills, assists and participation in eliminations. A kill or assist has full unit value; a squad kill without your damage counts as half through participation. Final placement determines what those actions are worth: a higher finish increases their value.

EA also describes halving the value of kills, assists and participations when you have more than eight kills. You therefore cannot multiply any large elimination count by one constant rate. Healing and reviving do not directly award RP, but can preserve the squad and its existing scoring potential.

Eliminating a higher-ranked opponent provides bonuses: one tier above gives 15%, two gives 25%, three gives 35%, and four or more gives 50%. This adds to that elimination's final value; placement still determines its base value.

A consecutive top-five streak awards 10 RP for the second finish, 20 for the third, 30 for the fourth and 40 for the fifth. Maintaining the streak afterwards awards 40 RP each time. Finishing below the top five breaks it. This is a streak of squad placements rather than five consecutive kills.

The practical lesson is to combine fighting with survival. Useful eliminations and a living squad let you continue the match. Chasing a final opponent across exposed ground can destroy that opportunity even after a strong opening.

Dropship and Drop Zones

Ranked uses two landing formats. Dropship uses a Jumpmaster to select a location. Drop Zone applies when the lobby meets the specified threshold of Diamond, Master or Predator players. The squad receives a POI in advance, players jump independently and can slightly adjust their trajectory. The loading screen identifies the format.

Agree on nearby loot distribution and the first gathering point. An assigned area does not remove the threat of a neighbouring squad. With a Jumpmaster, avoid scattering across distant districts as well: one player's early weapon cannot help a teammate who is too far away to reach.

What resets between splits

Resets occur at season start and the announced second split. Initial season placement uses MMR; do not replace it with an old assumption that everybody drops equally. EA publishes a separate second-split table.

Parentheses show EA’s published demotion protection. This table retains the values from EA’s reset section; it does not resolve the discrepancy with the Silver steps above. Do not derive missing ordinary progression thresholds from it or replace the requirement displayed in-game with your own calculation. Marked's second split began on September 15, 2026. Plan using the announced season schedule rather than the approximate duration of the previous split.

Rewards, badges and Auras

For players who meet the current seasonal reward requirements, rewards at the start of the next season use the highest rank achieved in either split of the previous season. Matching that rank in the second split earns an animated seasonal badge; without the same or a higher second-split rank, the badge is normal. Distinguish season rewards from your current leaderboard position.

Before the split ends, check Ranked Challenges for reward eligibility conditions, including a match requirement if one is displayed. Your highest rank determines the reward tier; it does not replace its eligibility conditions.

An Aura shows your current rank in the current season and is equipped through Legend Locker. Colors are gray for Rookie, bronze for Bronze, silver for Silver, gold for Gold, teal for Platinum, blue for Diamond, purple for Master and red for Predator. An older badge does not preserve an old Aura color when your rank changes.

Ranked Ladders are a separate leaderboard

Ladders group up to 100 players by hidden skill. Participation requires cross-play enabled and at least five Ranked matches. Your five best RP results count; view the leaderboard through Compete. You can play with or without a squad.

Rewards depend on final leaderboard tier: Tier 1 is the top 10%, Tier 2 is 10-30%, Tier 3 is 30-50%, and Tier 4 is the bottom 50%. These are not additional ranks between Diamond and Master. Ordinary match RP still matters for your main ranking.

Marked split two has specific Ladder windows: September 22-27, September 29-October 4, October 6-11, October 13-18, October 20-25, and October 27-November 1, 2026. These dates describe that split's published schedule rather than an indefinite calendar.

Using the rules to improve

Agree on an opening before landing, then decide after the first fight whether to maintain pressure or recover. Preserve shared firing angles and a retreat route. If an ally is eliminated, check recovery options: all Legends can craft banners in Core, not just Support.

After a match, examine why you lost a position rather than only the negative RP number. A late rotation, unsupported fight and chase after a good exchange require different corrections. Choose one repeatable objective for the next session and track whether you achieve it. That is more useful than promising a particular rank within a fixed number of hours.
