How to Play Valkyrie in Apex Legends: Height, Missiles and Rotations

Valkyrie helps her squad change elevation, apply missile pressure, and leave an awkward part of the map. Her strength appears when movement ends in a useful position: cover, a shared firing angle, or a safe route. A long flight does not win a fight by itself.

This guide covers standard Battle Royale in Marked, including the launch and midseason changes for Season 30. Older advice about Skyward Dive height and Missile Swarm damage needs adjustment. Valkyrie's historical position in a Season 11 tier list does not determine whether she suits your squad now.

Start with two tasks: keeping fuel for your next movement and discussing squad launches in advance. Once those habits work, add more demanding height changes and missile combinations with a teammate's attack. This is a learning sequence rather than a mandatory build.

What the abilities do

Tool

Job

Main limitation

VTOL Jets

Short flights, height access, elevation changes

Limited fuel that does not regenerate in the air

Missile Swarm

Damage and disorient an opponent

Needs a suitable trajectory and a follow-up

Skyward Dive

Squad launch and a longer rotation

Allies must attach; both launch and landing need preparation

Valkyrie belongs to Recon. Gathering information is valuable when it changes the squad's route. A detected threat should produce a specific decision: choose different cover, abandon a landing, or prepare a coordinated engagement.

VTOL Jets: fly toward a destination, not just upward

Choose your endpoint before engaging the jetpack. A short ascent to a roof edge with immediate cover is better than hovering above a block without a next action. Check which buildings and nearby teams can see the landing, rather than considering height alone.

Fuel is limited and does not recharge while you remain airborne. Spending it all on the first climb leaves no reserve for the next fight. Brief activations help control your movement more precisely but do not turn fuel into an unlimited resource.

Height matters when the squad can use it. If teammates are taking fire below without a useful angle, your isolated roof position may contribute little. Decide whether you are holding the upper level to support their fire or need to rejoin them.

For practice, find a transition between two pieces of cover at different elevations in the Firing Range. Repeat the climb, weapon-ready exit, and return behind an obstacle. Your landing should leave you prepared for the next action, rather than searching for somewhere to stand.

Missile Swarm after the Marked changes

The Marked launch update reduced Missile Swarm's base damage from 25 to 15; each additional rocket still dealt 3 damage. Its approach angle also changed. Do not treat it as the previous version that could travel over tall walls or buildings and dive almost vertically onto a target.

Use the ability for a particular opening: an opponent is healing behind low cover, a teammate is ready to swing, or you need to disrupt movement through a passage. Before firing, check obstacles in the flight path and the direction the target can escape. A missile hit does not replace your follow-up shot.

Do not automatically launch at the first distant silhouette. Ask what your squad can accomplish after a hit. If nobody can close the gap or hold the opponent's exit, the ability has produced a little damage without developing the situation.

On defense, covering an expected exit while remaining behind your own cover can be useful. If selecting the missile target exposes you to several firing lanes for too long, the risk may outweigh the expected benefit.

Skyward Dive: prepare before the panic launch

Name your rally point and check that teammates can reach it. They need to attach to the launch; they do not travel with you automatically. If someone is still healing in another building, launching early can separate the squad more severely than a normal retreat.

Prepare a primary landing and a fallback. The first should provide cover and a route onward; the backup matters if enemies become visible during ascent. Do not choose by flight distance alone. Good range is irrelevant if you land between two teams.

Marked reduced the base launch height by 15%. An old video showing a flight over specific terrain does not guarantee the route works in this version. Test uncertain crossings in safe circumstances first, and retain another landing option during a match.

Avoid delaying the decision until the final moment. Once opponents control your rally point, turning the ability into a calm rotation becomes harder. Leaving earlier can preserve supplies and position even without a spectacular escape from an almost lost fight.

Flight information and upgrades

Skyward Dive helps you assess the surroundings while rotating. The Marked midseason update improved the responsiveness of enemy targeting while skydiving. That is an interface improvement rather than a guarantee that a landing is free of threats.

In the Marked launch changes, Eye In the Sky's through-wall scan distance was reduced to 100 meters, while direct line-of-sight range stayed at 250 meters. Supersonic now reduces blast-off time by 40%, rather than the previous 50%. Distinguish an upgrade's effect from the base ability kit.

Connect an upgrade choice to the squad's task. If the main risk occurs while beginning a rotation, consider the value of quicker preparation. If information matters more, compare the scouting option. Read the choices available in your current client before deciding which problem to address.

Team choices and a practical fight plan

Valkyrie benefits from a teammate who can protect the rally or help hold the new position. Gibraltar can create a defensive window; a character with area control can turn a landing into a hold. These are examples of sharing responsibilities, not a promise of the strongest composition in every lobby.

Do not fill every slot with similar movement tools and forget support or control. Even a highly mobile team needs to heal, revive safely, and hold an angle while another player repositions. Discuss those jobs before an emergency develops.

A simple attack sequence works well for learning: a teammate holds attention, you take a nearby level, missiles create an opening, and the squad fires on one target. If that second level cuts you off from your allies, abandon the attractive flank for a coordinated trade.

Mistakes to review in a recording

  • Flying without choosing cover at the endpoint: begin the fix with landing preparation.

  • Spending every bit of fuel before contact: keep a reserve for the next action.

  • Launching without checking teammates: announce the rally and wait for readiness.

  • Firing missiles with no follow-up: connect the hit to your squad's movement.

  • Repeating an old crossing after the height reduction: prepare a new landing and fallback.

After a match, choose one movement sequence. Write down what you wanted to gain, where allies were standing, and where you could have retreated without an ability. If the answer is simply that you could fly upward, replace it with a specific objective for the next match.

Should you stay airborne constantly?

No. Use the jetpack to solve a problem rather than hover continuously. Staying on the ground behind appropriate cover preserves fuel and prepares your next maneuver.

Must Skyward Dive be used to attack?

No. Leaving a poor area and rotating on time is often more useful than attempting to land directly on opponents. Choose the objective based on the entire squad's condition.
