Battlefield 6 Nightfall: Season 2 Phase 2 Rundown
Nightfall at a Glance
Season 2 Phase 2, better known as Nightfall, went live on March 17, 2026. The patch started downloading at 09:00 UTC and the new content switched on at 12:00 UTC. It was the second of three Season 2 phases in Battlefield 6, sitting between Extreme Measures (February 17) and Hunter/Prey (April 14). The idea was simple. The lights went out, and fights moved into tight, dark corridors.
The package included the Hagental Base map, the Darkness modifier, two new guns, two dirt bikes, a free reward track called the Nightfall Bonus Path, patch 1.2.2.0 and a new underground sector in REDSEC. The phase added no permanent modes, only limited-time playlists, and it had no standalone paid pass.
This is a retrospective, with data current as of October 17, 2026. If you came back to the game and want to unlock Nightfall gear faster, start with account leveling, which shortens the road to weapons and gadgets.
Hagental Base and the Darkness Modifier
Hagental Base is an underground map built for infantry squad fights. There are no open fields or long sightlines, just tunnels, rooms and narrow passages. The map is destructible: you can blast through walls or collapse ceilings to open new routes. The map's assets also shipped in the Portal SDK.

The headline feature of the phase is the Darkness modifier, which switches off most of the lights on Hagental Base. The Nightfall playlist ran Team Deathmatch, Squad Deathmatch and Domination. A separate limited-time mode, Gauntlet: Nightfall, added an elimination-style format on the same map.
Night Vision Goggles (NVG). Your main tool when visibility drops close to zero.
Flashlight. It lights up a corridor but also works as a beacon in the dark, so use it deliberately.
Angle checks. Long range is pointless here, and the player who clears every corner first usually wins.
In the dark, ears and map knowledge matter more than raw aim: footsteps and reloads give a squad away before it appears on screen. Stay in pairs or trios, cover each other in passages and avoid standing in doorways, because in tight spaces every doorway is a trap. Explosives are useful too, since a blasted wall opens an angle nobody expects.
A free Battlefield 6 trial ran from March 17 to 24, so newcomers saw the map in its first days as well.
Nightfall Weapons: CZ3A1 and vz. 61
The phase added two guns, and both are built for close quarters. The CZ3A1 is a high-fire-rate SMG, and the VZ.61 is a fully automatic sidearm that shines at very short range. In the dark tunnels of Hagental Base that pairing makes sense.

You can get both without paying. The CZ3A1 is a free reward at Tier 11 of the Nightfall Bonus Path, which takes 110 path points. The VZ.61 unlocks through a free challenge about dealing damage with secondary weapons. To build a comfortable loadout quickly, weapon attachments unlock helps, and the new guns are easier to max out alongside SMG leveling and pistols leveling.
Who suits what. The CZ3A1 fits players who like aggressive pushes and fast indoor gunfights, since the high fire rate forgives sloppy aim at close range. The VZ.61 is a solid backup for the moment your main weapon runs dry and the enemy is already around the corner.
Nightfall Bonus Path and Free Rewards
Phase 2 had no standalone pass, but it did have the free Nightfall Bonus Path. It has 11 tiers on a 10 to 110 path point scale, and it runs alongside the Season 2 Battle Pass. The patch itself added no new Battle Pass content.
Free rewards on the path:
Tier 1 - Silent Predator weapon sticker;
Tier 3 - 30-minute Battle Pass XP boost;
Tier 5 - Piercing Vision vehicle decal;
Tier 7 - Going Dark uniform patch;
Tier 9 - Midnight Advance player card background;
Tier 11 - the CZ3A1 SMG.
Battle Pass owners got two more tiers. Tier 6 holds the Twilight Sortie package with the KORD 6P67 assault rifle, and Tier 8 holds a 30-minute Hardware XP boost. A sensible order: grab everything free first, then decide whether the Battle Pass is worth it for the KORD 6P67. Path points come from normal play, so no special preparation is needed.
Dirt Bikes: M1030-M1 and TM/O 450
Two two-seat light vehicles joined the roster. The M1030-M1 is the NATO variant and the TM/O 450 is the Pax one. Both can be used in Battlefield 6 and in REDSEC.

Bikes have little to do on tight Hagental Base, but elsewhere they work for quick squad rotations, flanking runs and pulling out of a bad position. The driver rides ahead, the passenger watches the sides, and a pair can cross open ground together. For broader vehicle progression, see vehicles level.
Patch 1.2.2.0: What Changed in the Game
Beyond the dark theme, the update brought several general changes that show up in every mode.
Hit registration. Time Nudge became more reliable thanks to a larger interpolation window and more damage events per network update. The Netgraph now shows bullets rejected by the server as red squares.
Light vehicles. A flipped vehicle can be turned back onto its wheels by steering.
Helicopters and tanks. Helicopters no longer slide after landing, and tank braking is stronger.
Portable Mortar. It can be deployed in HQ areas, minimap zoom improved, and HE shells hit harder.
Anti-Tank Mines. A player can have at most six active, and they despawn 180 seconds after the owner is eliminated.
REDSEC: Defense Testing Complex 3
REDSEC received a new underground sector, Defense Testing Complex 3, beneath the main battleground of Fort Lyndon. Inside are a hidden chemical testing facility, tunnels for traversal and close-quarters fights, and higher-rarity loot. The combat style is close to Hagental Base: tight, fast and without long firing lanes.
Later in the season REDSEC hosted Red Bull Supermoto, a dirt-bike knockout event where 8 players play 3 rounds and 4 reach the final. If you are chasing results in this mode, the RedSec wins service can help.
What Is Left of Nightfall Today
The phase lasted about four weeks. Hunter/Prey replaced it on April 14, and the whole of Season 2 ended around May 12, 2026, according to press reports. Nightfall is now season history, but skills for fighting in darkness and tight rooms carry over to any map with short sightlines.
Nightfall did not change the core of Battlefield 6, but it shifted the accents toward indoor infantry fights, sound and light discipline, short-range weapons and bike mobility. For a newcomer it is a good school of close combat, and for a veteran it is a reason to rebuild classes for tight maps and test the new guns next to familiar ones.
