Counter-Strike 2 Season 4: Recap of the Changes

The Season in One Minute

Counter-Strike 2 Season 4 began in late January 2026 with the update of 21 January and ended on 6 July 2026. It was a quiet season with no revolutions: Valve brought Anubis back into Active Duty, nudged the SMGs, made landing after a jump more predictable and launched a new season of Premier.

It is now 18 October 2026, and Season 5 has been live for months, so Season 4 is best read as a retrospective. The data is current as of 18 October 2026: what changed back then, what is still in the game and what is useful for ranked play today.

If you are returning after a break, start with maps and movement: they change everyday gameplay the most. Weapons and rating are a second layer that is easier to adjust on the fly.

  • Maps: Anubis returned to Active Duty, Train left the pool but stayed in Competitive and Casual.

  • Weapons: the MP7, MP5-SD and PP-Bizon got cheaper, and the first two gained a little damage.

  • Movement: landing time is measured with subtick precision and jumping no longer costs stamina.

  • Premier: a new season medal, a CS Rating reset and 10 placement matches.

Premier Season Four: Medal, Rating and Placements

The rules stayed familiar. Medal color depends on the highest CS Rating you reached during the season, while the bars on it track wins: one bar per 25 wins, up to five.

Medal color records your peak rating, so a drop at the end of the season no longer changes it. That removed pressure: after a good streak there is no need to fear losing what you reached.

To earn the medal you needed 25 Premier wins, an active CS Rating at the end of the season and an account in good standing. The season is closed, so the Season 4 medal can now only be seen on other profiles; it can no longer be earned.

At the start of the season the Premier rating was reset, and every player had to play 10 placement matches. According to player reports, regular Competitive ranks were reset as well.

The practical takeaway holds for any new season. The first weeks are the least stable: the rating does not yet reflect real skill, and lobbies mix players of very different levels. It is better to play placements in good form with a map pool you have prepared than as a warm-up after a break.

Season Maps: Active Duty and the Community Rotation

The Season 4 Active Duty pool was Ancient, Anubis, Dust II, Inferno, Mirage, Nuke and Overpass. Anubis took the place of Train, which stayed available in Competitive and Casual.

That list is now history. With Season 5, announced on 22 June 2026, Overpass left the pool and Cache joined it.

Community maps rotated too. In January 2026, Golden, Palacio, Agency and Rooftop were removed from all modes. Warden, Stronghold and Alpine were added to Competitive, Casual and Deathmatch, and Sanctum and Poseidon came to Wingman.

They did not stay long: the 8 July 2026 update removed Warden, Stronghold, Alpine and Sanctum from all official modes. Boulder, Fachwerk and Shelter took their place, and Debris and El Dorado were added to Wingman. For practice this means: learn utility lineups on the main pool maps, since they last longer. If you practice on community maps, check the current list in the game.

Anubis: Five Changes That Shifted the Balance

Anubis was the headline map of the update: after returning to the pool, its layout changed noticeably.

  • The bridge drop was moved closer to Mid Doors.

  • Mid Doors was reversed, which changed sightlines and the opening duels in the center.

  • A hole was added between E-box and Back of B.

  • The A site crates were moved up the steps onto Walkway.

  • Scaffolding was added to the A site pillar.

Post-release analysis mostly agreed that the changes lean toward defense. For attackers, the lesson is to rework old utility lineups and timings instead of carrying them over from the previous season.

Attackers should walk through the center again: the reversed Mid Doors changes the first seconds of a round, and familiar peeks may now come from a different angle. Defenders should check which positions the new opening near Back of B covers and agree who rotates.

One more January detail: Map Guides can be loaded in Casual and Retakes through the ESC menu, a handy way to learn the updated Anubis.

SMGs: Cheaper and Slightly More Accurate

On the weapon side, the update touched submachine guns. They became more affordable, which suits economy rounds when rifles are out of reach.

MP7

Slightly higher damage, less damage fall-off, $100 cheaper

MP5-SD

PP-Bizon

about $1,300

The picture shifted again later: in April 2026 Valve cut prices on some SMGs once more. Before a buy, check the current prices in the in-game shop; the table shows the January state.

Movement: Landing, Stamina and Bunnyhops

The movement changes affect jumping and landing, and a practice map is the easiest place to get used to them.

  • Landing time is measured with subtick precision.

  • Jumping and landing no longer consume stamina.

  • The speed penalty on landing depends only on landing time.

  • A jump press within a short window around landing (the sv_bhop_time_window setting) counts as a bunnyhop unless sv_jump_spam_penalty_time blocks it.

Since the speed penalty depends only on landing time, the rhythm of your jumps matters more. If you are used to the old feel, spend a few runs on a movement practice map before hopping in a ranked match.

Season 5 and What to Do Now

Season 5 started around 6-9 July 2026 with a full rating reset, and the map pool changed: Cache replaced Overpass in Active Duty. The end date has not been announced. The Premier rules above still apply, because the start-of-season routine repeats.

Make use of the start of a season: while the rating is unsettled, it moves more noticeably. Decide in advance which maps you will pick and practice lineups and SMG spraying on economy rounds there before opening placements.

If your goal for the new season is to reach a target rating without a long grind, there are a few ways:

The Season 4 changes were small but touched everyday play: SMGs mattered more on economy rounds, and Anubis demanded new lineups.
