How to Beat Calus in Destiny 2 Pantheon 2.0
What to Know About Calus Before You Go In
Emperor Calus is the final boss of The Pantheon: Calus Resplendent in Pantheon 2.0, which arrived with the final update on June 9, 2026. The fights run in a fixed order: Argos, Gahlran, then Calus. The activity is built for six players and has no matchmaking, so you assemble a team through Fireteam Finder or an LFG tool.
The whole encounter rests on one idea: the squad splits into two trios. One stays in the Throne Room, the other goes into the Shadow Realm. Both trios work at the same time and depend on each other, so a mistake on one side usually wipes everybody.
Guardians are underleveled against the enemies in Pantheon, so clear callouts and teamwork matter more than raw gear.
Preparation and Roles
Before the pull, agree on names for the four symbols on the arena pillars: Cup, Axe, Sun and Dog. Guides use different words for them, for example Chalice instead of Cup. The exact words do not matter as long as all six players say the same thing.

Here is how the jobs are split.
Group | Location | Main job |
|---|---|---|
Shadow Realm team | Shadow version of the arena | Call symbols, clear adds, shoot down skulls |
Throne Room team | Main arena | Kill the correct Psion, break Calus's shield |
On Standard difficulty you get weekly Tier 5 drops, but Feats are only available on Custom. Adventure lowers the rewards, so it is a poor fit for a proper run. If you want to bring your gear up before Pantheon, power leveling is a handy way to do it.
The Opening and the Jump into the Shadow Realm
The fight starts when you shoot Calus and knock the goblet out of his hand. A large wave of Cabal arrives, and the squad clears the arena. After a while Calus claps, and everyone is pulled into the shadow copy of the room.
You land in front of a barrier with several floating Orbs above it. Three players jump into one of the Orbs above the barrier: Left, Middle or Right. That sends them back to the Throne Room. The other three stay in the Shadow Realm.
Decide who goes where in advance. The players who stay in the shadows need strong damage against groups of enemies, while the returning trio wants reliable single-target damage, since Psions and the shield have to go down fast.
Symbols and Psions
In the Shadow Realm, stay inside the barrier. Avoid the ramps in this version of the arena: they launch Guardians to their deaths.

Symbols appear on Calus's forehead, and the shadow team calls out everything it sees. Exactly one of the four never shows up, and that is the one the other trio needs.
In the Throne Room every symbol has a Psion standing on it. The trio kills the Psion under the symbol that was not called. A correct hit creates a barrier for the shadow team. Hit the wrong one and that barrier collapses, and the Shadow Realm team wipes soon after. This cycle repeats three times.
Meanwhile the shadow team has to handle enemies. Player reports describe shielded Psions throwing purple grenades that can knock you off the arena. A simple fix is to split the zones: the player on the left watches the right side, the player on the right watches the left, and the middle player cleans up the rest.
Skulls and Force of Will
After the third barrier, Calus starts spitting out skulls. Every skull you destroy grants a stack of Force of Will, which comes in handy during the damage phase. Group in the middle and hit them with area damage; player reports say Arc weapons work well here.
A good target is around 70 stacks or more. If the Throne Room trio is holding steady, you can push to 90 or even 100. The more skulls you shoot down, the better the damage phase goes.
The Throne Room team keeps enemies in check during this time. Calus puts on a shield and begins attacking players directly, which ends in a wipe if you do nothing. Breaking the shield pulls the shadow trio back and starts the damage phase, so break it only when your partners have their stacks.
The Damage Phase on the Plates
Now all six are together. The arena has four plates marked with the same symbols. Choose a starting plate and a rotation direction in advance. Any order works as long as everyone remembers it.

Jump onto a plate and shoot the head first, then the torso: the glowing torso is the weak spot. Your damage drains the plate, and then the team moves to the next one. Going through all four plates counts as one full rotation.
Calus does not stand still. When he pulls out a gun to shoot a plate, jump off and return as soon as the attack ends. The classic mistake is hopping to a random plate and losing track of which ones are already spent.
When his health is nearly gone, Calus gains a shield and charges a powerful attack. Destroy the shield and land the Death Blow before the attack finishes, or the team dies. Save your biggest damage for this moment and call a signal so everyone fires at once.
Rewards and Next Steps
Pantheon 2.0 rewards include new armor sets, reprised weapons, holofoil variants and Triumph emblems. The exact list depends on your mode and progress, so no specific drop is guaranteed. The Godsbane title comes from 11 of the 12 Pantheon Triumphs, and the Calus Conquered emblem from Resplendent Victory.
Once Calus is down, the other Pantheon bosses test the same skills under different rules: look at The Pantheon: Morgeth Surpassing and The Pantheon: Insurrection Prime Revolutionary. To cover several activities at once, the Raids bundle fits well. For group runs there is also The Desert Perpetual raid.
If you lack time or a full squad, you can order a run on DVING.
