FFXIV Patch 7.55: What Occult Crescent Gained and How to Clear It
What Patch 7.55 added and who it is for
Patch 7.55 ("Trail to the Heavens") went live on July 28, 2026, and continued the Occult Crescent field operation for Dawntrail. It has no new story chapter: the main scenario (MSQ) picked up again only in Patch 7.56 on September 8. What it does give level 100 players is a new zone for long-term farming and a large raid for dozens of people.
By October 18, 2026, Patches 7.56 and 7.57 (October 13) are already out, so 7.55 is best read as a reference: what it added and what is still worth your time. Data is current as of 10/18/2026.
Addition | What it is |
|---|---|
The Occult Crescent: North Horn | new field operation zone, level 100 |
The Forked Tower: Magic | large raid for 1-48 players, plus an Extreme version |
Phantom Jobs | eight new phantom jobs, 24 in total |
Phantom Weapons | new upgrade versions: Obscurum, Occultum, Eclipticum |
Hildibrand and Allied Society | new Dawntrail side quests |
How to unlock North Horn and what to do there
North Horn is built for level 100 characters. You get in through the quest "Occult Reunion," given by the Expedition Messenger in Tuliyollal. It requires a level 100 Disciple of War or Magic job and the completed quest "Mysteries Abide."

The zone is built around events that bring whole groups together:
Critical Encounters - large zone events;
FATEs - the familiar dynamic events;
Persistent Pots and treasure coffers - extra loot around the map.
There is no minimum Knowledge Level to enter the zone. Enemies in North Horn start at Knowledge Level 20 and go up to 48, so you can walk in right away and level up along the way. If you have never played Occult Crescent, learn the phantom jobs first: the whole mode is built on them.
FATEs are open to everyone, while Critical Encounters are better with other players.
The Forked Tower: Magic, a raid for up to 48 players
The main combat addition is the raid The Forked Tower: Magic. It is level-synced to 100 with an item level of 690 (sync 700), and the party size is flexible: 1 to 48 players. You cannot unsync it. A run lasts 60 minutes with extensions, and Phoenix Downs are available inside.

To enter you need the quest "In the Shadow of the Tower" and Knowledge Level 40. The entrance is an aetherial node in North Horn at X15, Y29, and it opens only during Auroral Mirages weather. If the weather is wrong, you wait, so gather your group in advance and do not plan on a quick visit.
Clear rewards:
800 Enlightenment silver obols;
2,880 Phantom Job EXP;
80 Mathematics and 40 Mnemonics tomestones;
treasure coffers: 14 Arcane Amulets on a full clear and 8 without the Phantom Thief chests.
There is also The Forked Tower: Magic (Extreme). It requires a premade alliance of at least 12 players in three or more parties. Random queues are not an option here, so you need your own team or an organized community.
Raid rewards: what to watch for
The Forked Tower: Magic rewards fall into two kinds: progress and loot. Progress means 2,880 Phantom Job EXP and Enlightenment silver obols. Loot means Mathematics and Mnemonics tomestones plus coffers with Arcane Amulets.
The gap between 14 and 8 amulets is noticeable: a full clear with Phantom Thief chests pays almost twice as much. The Phantom Thief chests are worth not skipping, and in a large party it helps to agree beforehand who handles what.
Since the run lasts up to 60 minutes with extensions and can include up to 48 people, set aside a calm evening for your first attempt. Phoenix Downs are available inside, so mistakes cost less.
Phantom Jobs and Knowledge Level
Patch 7.55 added eight new Phantom Jobs: Ninja, Black Mage, White Mage, Red Mage, Dragoon, Summoner, Necromancer and Blue Mage. Together with the earlier ones, that makes 24. The new achievements Phantomastery IV and V require mastering 16 and 24 phantom jobs respectively, so a full set also completes the reward collection.

The practical point is simple: the more jobs you have unlocked, the more flexible your group is in Critical Encounters and in the raid. The Forked Tower: Magic gives 2,880 Phantom Job EXP per clear, so it is a convenient place to level up new jobs.
Knowledge Level also works as a gate. You cannot enter the Forked Tower: Magic below Knowledge Level 40, and enemies in North Horn scale up to 48. It makes sense to raise your level on zone events before the raid.
Phantom Weapons: new upgrades
Phantom Weapons arrived together with Occult Crescent, and Patch 7.55 added new upgrades for them. They come in Obscurum, Occultum and Eclipticum versions, with matte and standard replicas. For anyone already collecting phantom weapons, this continues a familiar chain.

Check the requirements for each upgrade in game before you start gathering materials.
Side quests: Hildibrand and Allied Society
The "Inconceivably Further Hildibrand Adventures" questline received two quests: "Detecting a Lead" and "Clotted Crime." They are easy to fit between raids when you need a break from combat.
The Allied Society quests added are "Touring Tural" and "Hero's Day Off," both for level 100. These are extra tasks for players who like to finish the side lines of Dawntrail.
What Patch 7.55 does not have
Patch 7.55 has no new story chapter: the next part of the MSQ came in 7.56. If you are waiting for the Dawntrail story to move forward, you need Patch 7.56; 7.55 is an add-on for max-level play.
North Horn and the Forked Tower, though, are built for many evenings. This is a patch for people who enjoy long-term progress in group content, not a quick story sprint.
What to do now that 7.56 and 7.57 are out
If you are coming back after a break, the order is:
Finish the quest "Mysteries Abide" and take "Occult Reunion" from the Expedition Messenger in Tuliyollal.
Enter North Horn and raise your Knowledge Level to 40 on zone events.
Pick up the quest "In the Shadow of the Tower."
Wait for Auroral Mirages weather, find the aetherial node and gather a group for The Forked Tower: Magic.
For the Extreme version, add a ready alliance of at least 12 players. If you do not have one, the normal raid for 1-48 players is enough to learn the content and build up phantom job EXP.
The 48-player raid is the biggest group activity of the patch, and North Horn is the key place for anyone collecting the full set of phantom jobs.
