FFXIV 7.4 Into the Mist: What the Patch Added and What Came Later
What Into the Mist Brought to the Game
Patch 7.4, "Into the Mist," launched on December 16, 2025, as another major Dawntrail update. On day one players got new main scenario (MSQ) chapters, the final Arcadion raid tier, the dungeon The Mistwake, the trial Hell on Rails, and the Unreal fight Tsukuyomi's Pain. The Savage tier of the raid opened later, on January 6, 2026.
Some of the additions arrived in point patches of the cycle rather than on launch day. The Cosmic Exploration planet Oizys came with 7.41 (January 27, 2026), and the Variant dungeon The Merchant's Tale came with 7.45 (March 3, 2026). Patches 7.5, 7.51 (June 2, 2026), 7.55 and 7.56 have also shipped since, so this is a look back at what the 7.4 cycle added and a pointer for where to start if you are returning to the game. The data is current as of October 18, 2026.
If you are short on time, the essentials are these: the Heavyweight Savage tier gates later endgame content, glamour is far more flexible now, and the Strategy Board and Command Panel make raids and hotbars noticeably easier to manage.
Timeline of the 7.4 Cycle
The most common confusion about this patch is when each piece of content actually became available. Here is the breakdown.
Content | Patch | Date |
|---|---|---|
Into the Mist launch, The Mistwake, Hell on Rails, Tsukuyomi's Pain | 7.4 | 12/16/2025 |
AAC Heavyweight (Savage) tier | 7.4 | 01/06/2026 |
Cosmic Exploration planet Oizys | 7.41 | 01/27/2026 |
Variant dungeon The Merchant's Tale and its Advanced version | 7.45 | 03/03/2026 |
The three-week gap between launch and the Savage tier gave players time to finish the story and gear up. Anyone joining the cycle late no longer faces that wait, since everything is available at once.
The Raid, the Dungeon and the Trials
The headline event of the patch is the Arcadion: Heavyweight raid, the closing tier of the Arcadion storyline. Its Savage version (AAC Heavyweight) opened on January 6, 2026, three weeks after the patch launched.

The new dungeon of the patch is The Mistwake. It belongs to the main scenario, so you will run it as part of the 7.4 story.
The trial Hell on Rails has two difficulties. Normal requires item level 745 and Extreme requires 760. For those who want a harder challenge, the patch added the Unreal trial Tsukuyomi's Pain at item level 690.
Normal Hell on Rails is a comfortable target once your gear reaches 745. Extreme is best left until you have a 760 set and know the mechanics. The Unreal fight with its 690 threshold does not need top-tier gear, so you can try it almost right after the story.
The Variant dungeon The Merchant's Tale is a separate story. It only arrived in 7.45 and has a harder Criterion version, The Merchant's Tale (Advanced). If you like these dungeons, look for it in that point patch.
Cosmic Exploration and the Occult Crescent
For Cosmic Exploration, the 7.4 cycle introduced a new planet, Oizys. It showed up in patch 7.41, so it was not available in the first weeks after launch. Check the rewards in game for details.

For the Occult Crescent, the cycle added three Phantom Jobs: Mystic Knight, Dancer and Gladiator. They are extra roles for expeditions that widen the range of party builds. The Phantom Jobs system kept evolving in later patches, so the lineup in game today may differ.
If you are a crafter or gatherer, Oizys gives you a reason to log in every day, and the Occult Crescent suits anyone who wants group expeditions without a strict raid schedule.
Glamour Without Job Restrictions
Job, class and level restrictions on clothing glamour were removed, so any outfit can now be worn over the gear of any job.

There are caveats. Weapons and tools can still only be glamoured to items of the same weapon type, and part of the equipment is treated as outfit glamour. Before you rebuild your wardrobe, check each item in the glamour window to avoid surprises with pieces that follow different rules.
The easiest way to start is with items that have been gathering dust in your inventory. A favorite outfit can now go on your main job without sacrificing gear stats, since a glamour only changes the look.
For collectors, finding a good-looking piece is no longer limited by class, and old outfits can be worn again.
Duty Support, Strategy Board and Command Panel
Duty Support gained the dungeons Dzemael Darkhold and The Aurum Vale. You can run them with NPC allies, and dying to a boss now grants buff stacks, each of which lets you survive one more death before the fight resets. For solo players, it is a good way to clear older dungeons without searching for a party.

The Strategy Board is an in-game board for planning raid mechanics. A strategy can be shared with the party or through a code, and an account can store up to 50 saved strategies. For raid leaders, it saves prep time on mechanics.
The Strategy Board works best before the pull: sketch positions for the key mechanics, save them and send the code to your group. Newcomers understand their role faster from a picture than from a long explanation in chat.
The Command Panel is a new window with 100 slots across four tabs. You can find it in the Extra section of the Actions/Traits menu, and it supports controller play. If your hotbars are overloaded, the panel frees up your interface.
The interface also received two new themes, Clear White and Clear Green.
PvP: Series 10 and the Worqor Chirteh Map
PvP Series 10 opened with the patch, and Frontline gained the Worqor Chirteh map. Seasons have moved on since then: by 7.56 Series 12 is live, so the Series 10 rewards are a thing of the past.
7.4 is not the place to look for guidance on current PvP: for the latest Frontline details, check the current season.
Where to Start Today
If you are returning to Dawntrail, go through the patches in order: first the 7.4 story with its dungeon and trials, then the 7.41 and 7.45 point patches with the planet Oizys and the Variant dungeon, and after that the later updates. That way you will not miss story chapters or content that unlocks in a chain.
If you are aiming at the endgame, keep in mind that AAC Heavyweight (Savage) remains the key raid of that cycle. The Dancing Mad Ultimate, added in 7.51, unlocks after you clear AAC Heavyweight M4 Savage, so the raid path runs through this tier.
Patches 7.5, 7.51, 7.55 and 7.56 followed 7.4, so a good share of today's goals sit beyond this cycle. Still, its story, raid tier and system improvements are useful to almost anyone moving forward.
For casual play, the 7.4 cycle offers more conveniences than obligations: open glamour, the Command Panel and Duty Support for older dungeons let you play the way you like without being tied to a party.
