What to know before you enter Mistwake

Mistwake is the level 100 story dungeon from Patch 7.4, Into the Mist, in Final Fantasy XIV (Dawntrail). The patch launched on December 16, 2025, so today it is regular content: players run it alongside the Dawntrail story and come back for gear. Data is current as of 10/18/2026.

It is built for a light party of four: one tank, one healer and two DPS. There are three bosses, each built around lightning mechanics. The rest of the run is ordinary trash packs.

The rewards are higher than the entry requirement suggests: you can queue from item level 735, but every item from the dungeon is item level 755. It is a handy source of gear.

How to unlock the dungeon

Mistwake is tied to the main Dawntrail story, and you cannot skip it. You need level 100 on a combat job and progress through the story up to the right point in Patch 7.4. The unlock quest is called Beyond the Mountains.

The entrance is in Alexandria Crater. Follow the Dawntrail main scenario and the dungeon will appear in your list.

  • Level: 100.

  • Quest: Beyond the Mountains.

  • Entrance: Alexandria Crater.

If you are returning after a break, first make sure the Dawntrail main story is finished up to Patch 7.4. Otherwise the quest will not show up and the dungeon stays locked.

Parameters and ways to run it

You can run the dungeon through Duty Finder under Dungeons (Dawntrail) or with NPCs. For solo play there is Duty Support, where you pick your companions, and Trust. Unsync is not allowed in Mistwake.

The dungeon is part of the Expert roulette. Do not confuse it with the Level Cap Dungeons roulette: that is a separate list of dungeons.

Patch 7.4 also added a stacking buff to Duty Support: after deaths on bosses a buff stacks up and grants extra deaths before the fight resets.

Treno Catoblepas: the first boss

The first fight revolves around the rocks on the arena and lightning. Rocks break when lightning strikes them. If too many are broken, you have no cover from Bedeviling Light, and the damage becomes unavoidable.

During Stone Curse, hide behind an intact rock, so keep an eye on how many rocks are left on the arena.

Amdusias: the second boss

Lightning orbs surround Amdusias on the arena, and Bio II leaves poison bubbles on the ground. After a while the bubbles turn red and explode, so do not stand next to them.

The main job here is avoiding extra damage: go around the orbs and step away from bubbles in time.

  • Do not touch the lightning orbs.

  • Leave the Bio II bubbles when they change color.

Survivor of Storms: Thundergust Griffin

The last boss also works with lightning orbs and line AoEs. When it jumps to the edge of the arena it gains Directional Disregard. Watch your position while that buff is active.

The main job is leaving the line zones and not touching the orbs.

Rewards and treasure coffers

Every item from the dungeon is item level 755. Treno Catoblepas drops head, body, bracelet and ring gear plus Materia XI and XII. Amdusias drops hands, feet, earrings and necklace gear plus Materia XII. The last boss gives body and legs gear.

Thundergust Griffin also drops the Thundergust Griffin Card, the Mistic Condor minion and two orchestrion rolls. Four treasure coffers are hidden in the dungeon, each holding an item level 755 piece and Materia XI.

  • Coffer 1 (11.6, 12.6): hands, bracelets, ring.

  • Coffer 2 (13.1, 12.9): feet, earrings, necklace.

  • Coffer 3 (10.3, 11.5): head, bracelets, ring.

  • Coffer 4 (11.6, 10.3): legs, earrings, necklace.

If you need a specific slot, use this list: coffers and bosses give different pieces.

What to do after Mistwake

The next steps of Patch 7.4 are the Hell on Rails trial, with Normal (item level 745) and Extreme (760) versions, and the Arcadion Heavyweight raid. The Savage version of Heavyweight released on January 6, 2026.

Since then patches 7.41, 7.45, 7.5, 7.51, 7.55 and 7.56 have arrived. For gear, Mistwake remains an accessible way to pick up item level 755 pieces, and Duty Support lets you clear it without a queue or a party.
