Immortal Combat: rattan-figure duels
Immortal Combat had players control rattan figures in duels. It was a distinct minigame rather than a damage test for the normal party. Raising a favourite character and improving their artifacts did not automatically make someone better at this match.
The duel centered on colored blocks. Matching four or more of one color cleared them, triggered the figure's attack and placed obstacles for the opponent. Victory required fully depleting the opposing figure's HP. Look for available color combinations first and preserve room for incoming blocks.
Figures had different skills: some changed blocks in an area and set them alight, while others placed blocks and scattered obstacles. Match the selection to the opponent and your preferred style. Two-Player Mode allowed inviting a friend to a duel and comparing different skill combinations.

Drills by Lamplight and Secret Stratagems
The combat activity Drills by Lamplight used Secret Stratagems, special effects that supported challenge completion. Reading a stage condition before choosing a party mattered. A generally strong team that ignored the bonus could be less convenient than one built to trigger it.
To assess a suitable party, identify the intended damage source and the action that activates the bonus. Then supply the required elements, survival tools and access to Bursts. Optimising individual stats comes after those functional needs are covered.
Judge the party by how it uses the selected Secret Stratagem. If a bonus requires a particular action, arrange the rotation to repeat that action at useful moments. Recheck the condition and enemy lineup when changing stages.
