Crossover Events in WoW
World of Warcraft has hosted multiple Diablo-themed events, such as the 2017 Diablo 20th Anniversary and the 2023 Greedy Emissary and Welcome to Sanctuary celebrations for Diablo IV's release.
Event Dates
The 2025 Greedy Emissary event runs from July 1 at 8:00 AM PDT through July 29 at 8:00 AM PDT.
Updated Event Mechanics
This year’s event still centers on hunting Treasure Goblins but includes new mechanics. In Undermine, goblins spawn differently, and players can throw Elixirs at portals to apply affixes or increase goblin spawns.
New Currency and Chests
Hellstone Shards and Hellcaller Chests
Hellstone Shards and Hellcaller Chests are new features. Chests drop from Treasure Goblins and can contain Valorstones, Shards, and Elixirs. The first 10 chests each week guarantee Hellstone Shards, up to 60 per account.
How to Start
Pick up the quest "Hellhunters Wanted" from posters in Dornogal to meet Baranar and earn 13 Hellstone Shards immediately. Chests after the 10th may still drop 1–5 Shards at random.
Hellfire Tier 2 Armor Sets
Vendor Location
Diablo-themed recolored Tier 2 sets are now available from Baranar in Dornogal. Each costs 40 Hellstone Shards and cannot be earned from drops.

Treasure Goblins and Elixirs
Affixes Explained
Treasure Goblins now spawn with affixes. Each affix affects how the goblin behaves. You can alter the affixes by tossing Elixirs on summoning portals.
Elixir Types and Effects
Arcane – Spawns damaging Arcane Overloads
Blistering – Summons Shadowflame firebombs
Connected – Spawns Fallen mobs
Cursing – Slows cast speed, forces Diabolic speech
Deafening – Casts knockback AoE
Explosive – Summons fire orbs that explode
Healthy – Drops healing globes
Magma – Creates lava pools and lava mobs
Rallying – Spawns Demonic Bovines
Rich – Haste and speed boost from money pools
Storming – Lightning zones that damage players
Tempestuous – Pulls and knocks back enemies
Trapper – Spawns traps that zap for % health
Windforce – Creates knockback vortexes
Goblin Spawn Scaling by Affixes
0 Affixes = 1 Goblin (random affixes)
1 Affix = 1 Goblin (1 affix from portal)
2 Affixes = 1 Goblin (2 portal affixes)
3–6 Affixes = 2–3 Goblins with more portal affixes
Hourly Goblin Spawns in Cities
Treasure Goblins spawn hourly in Stormwind, Orgrimmar, and Dornogal. The spawn is marked on the zone map and appears 5 minutes after the portal. Spawn locations:
Stormwind: Stormwind Docks
Orgrimmar: Outside main gate
Dornogal: Southeast exit past dummies

Undermine-Specific Spawning
Killing an Undermine rare may spawn a goblin after 1 minute. This can occur once per hour per rare. Some rares can’t trigger portals (they have "Portal Problems" debuff).
At x:15 every hour, 5 extra portals spawn in a "Portal Storm" event. Bosses in Liberation of Undermine can also spawn portals.
