Elemental Shaman Guide
Elemental Shaman Overview

Elemental Shaman is a ranged mail-wearer that commands the power of Nature, Fire, and Frost. With stunning spell visuals and a dynamic toolkit, it excels at both burst and sustained damage. Whether using a staff or a one-handed mace with shield, it adapts to encounters with either mobility or sturdiness. Elemental Shamans also bring off-healing from Restoration and unique utility through totems.
This spec is perfect for those who enjoy an engaging caster with the ability to support allies or simply enjoy flashy spellcasting.

Cheat Sheet: Quick Reference

Trinket Picks: Favor high Mastery synergy and scaling procs
Patch 11.1 Changes Summary
Patch 11.1 brought important reworks and visual upgrades:
Ancestral Guidance removed, replaced with a much stronger Healing Stream Totem.
Deeply Rooted Elements reverted to an earlier design—now scales with Maelstrom spent, increasing RNG.
Primordial Wave redesigned to no longer apply Flame Shock or duplicate Lava Burst. It now deals AoE damage and gives static Maelstrom, but less overall power.
Visual updates to Ghost Wolf, Lightning Rod, and Chain Lightning for clarity.
Hero Talents: Farseer vs. Stormbringer
Each Hero Talent path offers a distinct feel:
Farseer: Summons ancestral spirits to echo your Lava Burst or Chain Lightning. Performs best in raids and PvP, offering sustained, consistent damage.
Stormbringer: Focuses on lightning and Tempest, excelling in Mythic+ with excellent scaling and AoE burst.
Playing Elemental Shaman in Season 2
Elemental gameplay revolves around managing Maelstrom effectively, reacting to procs, and using cooldowns wisely.
Avoid resource waste: Don’t overcap Maelstrom; prioritize spenders for optimal damage and procs like Deeply Rooted Elements.
Cooldown management: Efficient use of cooldowns like Ascendance and Fire Elemental is key to maximizing throughput.
Proc reaction: Skills like Lava Surge and Icefury must be used quickly to chain valuable effects together.
Gearing Strategy
Stick to the stat priority but always consider higher item level upgrades. With pieces like Cyrce’s Circlet and trinkets such as House of Cards, supplementing with Haste on other gear helps balance stats. Always sim your gear to optimize your setup.
Best Professions
Professions offer minor combat bonuses. Choose what supports your gameplay:
Leatherworking: Craft strong early gear pieces.
Alchemy: Create your own potions and flasks.
Enchanting: Save on enchanting costs.
Best Race
No race drastically changes performance, but:
Goblin: Offers a mobility boost.
Tauren / Dwarf: Slight DPS edge from crit boosts (~1%).
Personal preference wins unless min-maxing top-tier play. Choose what feels right for you.
