Lorewalking introduces a fresh questing experience teaming players with Lorewalker Cho to explore moments from Azeroth’s past. It blends new and classic questlines, dungeons, and scenarios. Players can start Lorewalking at level 10 and earn experience, exclusive toys, and lore notes.

Three Repeatable Quest Chains

  • Meet the Ethereals: Journey to Netherstorm to battle Dimensius, meet Alleria and Locus Walker in Legion, and visit the Brokers in Shadowlands to access Tazavesh. Ve'nari also appears in this chain.

  • Experience Xal’atath’s Storyline: Discover the story of the Blade of the Black Empire in Legion, watch Xal’atath take form in Battle for Azeroth, and travel back to the Black Empire to witness her clash with the Old Gods.

  • Face the Past with Arthas: Return to Stratholme for a condensed culling, feel betrayal’s sting in Wrath of the Lich King, and step into Arthas’ role as the Lich King facing Azeroth’s heroes.

How to Start

Lorewalker Cho is located in Stormwind, Orgrimmar, and Dornogal. Speaking with him and selecting “(Lorewalking) What stories can you tell me?” allows players to pick a quest chain.

Locations

  • Dornogal (Keeper's Terrace, /way #2339 49.7 31.5)

  • Orgrimmar

  • Stormwind

Once a questline is selected, a Lorewalking panel appears over the quest log. The chat bubble icon pauses the quest, enabling conversation with Lorewalker Cho. Choosing “Please continue your story” resumes it. Clicking the 'X' saves progress and exits Lorewalking. Players cannot save two Lorewalking questlines simultaneously; starting a new one erases prior progress.

Lorewalking: The Lich King

Arthas Menethil's birth was whispered by Lordaeron’s forests—but could they foresee his dark fate?

The Prince Who Would Be King

This chain explores Arthas’ early days, the Culling of Stratholme, and his discovery of Frostmourne.

  • Players struggling against Muradin Bronzebeard should use Expert Backhand to interrupt Muradin’s Stormbolt. Kiting around pillars after the stun helps prevent repeated Stormbolts, easing the fight.

  • Key quest items like Murkweed Elixir enable interaction with ghosts.

  • Place Orik’s Crystalline Orb on the glowing circle; it might need to be clicked from your bag.

  • Use Zelig’s Scrying Orb inside Frostmourne Cavern for progress.

  • Talking to Lorewalker Cho during this quest grants additional lore about Uther, Jaina, Muradin, the plague, Stratholme, Mal’ganis, the Forgotten Shore, and Frostmourne.

Lorewalking: Ethereals

The mysterious ethereals share little of their origins, yet much is revealed through their tales.

The Protectorate

Travel back to The Burning Crusade to fight Ethereum and Dimensius.

  • If Commander Ameer is missing, reactivate Ethereum Transponder Zeta.

  • Use Ethereum Essence immediately after looting to advance quests.

  • Speak to Captain Saeed to spawn Dimensius if no other player has.

Lorewalker Cho provides lore on Netherstorm, Nexus-King Salhadaar, and Dimensius throughout the quest.

Lorewalking: Xal’atath

Xal’atath, once the Blade of the Black Empire, carries a secretive yet impactful history.

The Blade and the High Priest

Relive your first encounter with Xal’atath during the Shadow Priest artifact storyline.

  • Players lacking Mass Dispel receive it in stage 7 of the scenario.

  • Talking to Lorewalker Cho unlocks explanations of Keeper's Rest, Y'Shaarj, C'thun, Yogg-Saron, and The Twilight's Hammer.

  • Xal’atath’s whispers can be heard by conversing with Lorewalker Cho.

Lorewalking Rewards

  • Royal Visage: Completing the Lich King chain grants a toy transforming you into a ghostly Lich King for 10 minutes, including ghostly mounts, with a 30-minute cooldown.

  • K'aresh Memory Crystal: Completing the Ethereals chain rewards a toy that morphs you into a random K'areshi for 10 minutes, also on a 30-minute cooldown.

  • Echo of Xal’atath, Blade of the Black Empire: Completing the Xal’atath chain gives a toy that triggers her voice lines on kills for 1 hour with no cooldown.

Lorewalker's Crate of Memorabilia

Certain quests or campaign repeats reward this crate, containing gear from past expansions scaled to your level. While not optimal for gearing, it’s a fun transmog source.

Lorebooks

Finishing any Lorewalking chain grants collections of Lorewalker Cho’s notes, expanding your understanding of the storylines.
