Overview of Preservation Evoker

39732-empowered-spells-expanding-beyond-evokers-to-other-classes-soon

Preservation Evoker is a distinct healing class built around managing both Mana and Essence. It introduces Empowered abilities, which gain strength with charge time. As a Healer, Preservation plays at a slower pace, but each cast delivers major healing. While labeled mid-range, Preservation spells have a 30-yard range—slightly longer than Devastation's 25 yards. It offers high mobility, solid damage tools, and flexible spell combos suitable for different healing needs.

All Evokers begin at level 10, classed as Hero characters. This class is exclusively tied to the Dracthyr race, whether playing for Alliance or Horde.

Hero Talents: Flameshaper vs. Chronowarden

Preservation Evokers choose between Flameshaper and Chronowarden trees.

Flameshaper grants a new spell, Engulf, which enhances healing through bursts. This tree favors explosive healing and spreading effects from Dream Breath. It thrives in AoE healing situations and hits many raid members with each burst.

Chronowarden amplifies Preservation’s core abilities. It boosts spells like Spiritbloom and Dream Breath, providing greater healing control and versatility. Chronowarden also offers better personal survivability and utility.

Chronowarden performs better for flexible healing and solo survivability, while Flameshaper is more explosive and excels in consistent raid-wide output.

Preservation Evoker Changes in Patch 11.1.7

The Flameshaper hero tree saw significant updates to improve both dungeon and raid performance. Key changes include:

  • Fulminous Roar was introduced, making Dream Breath and Fire Breath tick faster, though the duration is shorter. The net effect is faster, not higher, output.

  • Engulf now has a reduced cooldown and scales with Haste, improving its viability.

  • Flame Siphon was redesigned; instead of spreading effects, it now reduces the cooldown of Dream Breath and Fire Breath when casting Engulf.

These updates allow Flameshaper to trigger its bursts more often while providing more consistent healing over time. Meanwhile, the Chronowarden tree and core kit remain unchanged.

Playing Preservation Evoker in Season 2

Preservation Evokers use two primary build paths with shared healing fundamentals:

  • Echo-focused builds involve pre-applying Echo to 50–75% of allies, then using major healing spells to duplicate effects across the raid.

  • Emerald Blossom builds focus on casting this AoE heal frequently for sustained group healing.

Both builds benefit from mobility, utility, and powerful cooldowns. Core principles to follow in both builds:

1. Keep Empowered Abilities Active:
Dream Breath, Spiritbloom, and Fire Breath are high-impact spells. While they aren’t always used on cooldown, they should be cast regularly throughout any fight.

2. Use Temporal Anomaly Often:
Echo builds benefit from near-cooldown usage. Blossom builds cast this during periods of heavy group damage. It’s resource-heavy but spreads Echo and adds a shield.

3. Spend Essence Bursts:
Procs from Reversion, Living Flame, and other sources grant Essence Burst, which makes your next Echo or Emerald Blossom free. Avoid overcapping and use procs promptly to preserve value.

Gearing Up in Season 2

Stat priority varies by build, but a general guideline is:

Mastery > Crit > Haste > Versatility
Intellect remains the most important base stat—larger item level upgrades are usually better than perfect stats.

For Flameshaper raiders, aim to reach 20% Haste before following the above stat order. Always use simulations for the most accurate gear decisions.

Professions for Preservation Evoker

In The War Within, professions don't provide notable performance boosts, meaning you have flexibility when choosing one. That said, some professions still offer utility:

  • Leatherworking: Lets you craft your own armor, which can be very close to Best-in-Slot quality. This is helpful early in the patch cycle.

  • Alchemy: Provides access to flasks, potions, and other consumables.

  • Enchanting: Lets you enchant your gear directly without depending on the Auction House. Useful for constant gear changes.

Choose whichever profession aligns with your goals—whether it’s crafting your own items, making gold, or convenience.

Best Race for Preservation Evoker

Evokers are exclusive to the Dracthyr race. This applies to both factions—Alliance and Horde. Dracthyr are designed specifically for the Evoker class and come with unique racial abilities and animations that enhance the mid-range, high-mobility gameplay of Preservation.
