The Motherlode Mythic+ Dungeon Guide – Season 2
Introduction
Welcome to the comprehensive guide for The Motherlode dungeon in season 2 of The War Within! This guide covers all trash and boss abilities, alongside recommended tactics for Mythic and Mythic+ modes. Much of this advice also applies to normal and heroic difficulties. For those interested, a player-friendly route via the Mythic Dungeon Tools addon will be included.
Coin-Operated Crowd Pummeler Trash
Off-Duty Laborer:
Starts combat by casting Throw Wrench on whoever pulls aggro. Tanks should engage first, or use crowd control (CC) to prevent this cast.
Refreshment Vendor:
Channels Iced Spritzer on a random player. Interrupt or CC to stop.
Hired Assassin:
Channels Fan of Knives causing heavy raid damage. Interrupt or CC is necessary. Interrupt Toxic Blades to stop the stacking Poison applied by Fan of Knives.
Mech Jockey:
At low health, tries to Activate Mech by running to a nearby dormant suit. Focus and CC it to interrupt the activation.
Mechanized Peacekeeper:
CC immune. Avoid Tear Gas puddles. Charged Shield targets the tank and deals AoE damage for 16 seconds, so prepare defensives.
Addled Thug:
Immune to CC. Uses Uppercut on a random player — avoid cleaving allies and use defensives if damage overlaps. Inhale Vapors enrages the mob, increasing attack speed; use a soothe if available.
Rowdy Reveler:
Targets a random player with Penny For Your Thoughts. Be cautious if this overlaps with other damage.
Coin-Operated Crowd Pummeler Boss Fight
The key mechanic is Footbomb Launcher, which spawns 6 bombs around the boss arena. After 15 seconds, they explode with a timed detonation, avoidable by kicking bombs into the boss. Each bomb hit stacks a 25% damage taken debuff on the boss. Tanks should keep the boss stationary while others kick bombs, then use damage cooldowns once the debuff is stacked.
Healers must watch for Static Pulse, which deals initial nature damage, knocks players back, and applies an 8-second damage-over-time effect. Be ready to heal through this.
Hooligans in the stands throw coin piles intermittently. Pull the boss away as full energy triggers Coin Magnet, stacking the Pay to Win buff on the boss if coins are hit. It’s best to start the boss near the entrance, slowly moving towards the exit as coins spawn.
Players should stay close to avoid the random-target frontal attack Shocking Claw.
Azerokk Trash
Azerite Extractor:
Immune to CC. Rapid Extraction causes heavy group damage over 5 seconds, spawning avoidable circles. Use defensives or healing cooldowns. Puncture targets the tank; cleanse bleeds and use defensives if possible.
Wanton Sapper:
Avoid circles from Final Blast and Bag of Bombs.
Mine Rat:
Throws rocks at random players. Be alert if this overlaps with Rapid Extraction, and prepare defensives.
Venture Co. Earthshaper:
Interrupt every cast of Rock Lance targeting random players.
Stonefury:
Tectonic Barrier prevents interrupts; use kick or purge to remove it to ensure Furious Quake, a heavy party attack, can be interrupted.
Taskmaster Askari:
Immune to CC. Applies stacking bleed from Heavy Slash—tanks should use defensives or bleed cleanses at high stacks. Brutal Charge targets a random ranged player—avoid the Massive Slam AoE that follows. Overtime! grants nearby mobs a stacking haste buff; use soothes if available. At low health, Desperate Measures increases damage, so tanks must prepare.
Azerokk Boss Fight
This fight centers on controlling Earthrager mobs, which fixate random players and apply stacking bleed on melee hits. Occasionally, the boss empowers one Earthrager with Azerite Infusion, healing it fully and increasing its damage by 50%, while allowing it to be tanked and breaking any CC.
The empowered Earthrager pulses group damage every 2 seconds and takes 150% increased damage. It must be killed quickly before the boss uses Resonant Quake, or it will trigger Azerite Aftershock, likely causing a wipe. Prepare burst damage as soon as empowerment happens.
Unempowered Earthragers should not be focused down. Instead, use knockbacks, slows, and stuns to prevent them reaching their fixate targets. A Fracking Totem near the boss room entrance can lock down an Earthrager for 1 minute but breaks on damage. Pull the boss away to maintain the CC.
Avoid the random-target frontal attack, Tectonic Smash.
Rixxa Fluxflame Trash
Test Subject:
Unstable Mutation increases physical damage every 2 seconds, so tanks beware if they survive late into packs.
Venture Co. Alchemist:
Caustic Compound targets a random player—use poison dispel or defensives if overlapping damage occurs. Interrupt every cast of Transmute: Enemy to Goo; if missed, use magic dispel to remove the debuff.
Weapons Tester:
Echo Blade shoots a line toward a random player—move out of its path.
Venture Co. Mastermind:
Immune to CC. Mind Lash targets a random player—use defensives if needed. Brainstorm spawns tornadoes under three random players that silence for 6 seconds—avoid standing in them.
Rixxa Fluxflame Boss Fight
This boss doesn’t deal physical damage directly but uses an instant-cast Searing Reagent that inflicts fire damage, so physical or melee damage mitigation is ineffective.
Throughout the fight, Gushing Catalyst causes overhead pipes to overflow, creating puddles that the group must avoid. The boss then uses Propellant Blast, a frontal cone that knocks back puddles. The targeted player should use defensives and face the blast toward puddles to clear the platform. This blast happens in three rapid sequences before Gushing Catalyst triggers again, so prepare accordingly.
Additionally, Azerite Catalyst targets a random player, spawning puddles every second for five seconds. The targeted player should place these puddles near existing ones to preserve safe space.
Mogul Razdunk Trash
Crawler Mine:
Dormant mines activate when a player comes within 4 yards, fixating a random player and exploding on contact. Use CCs and cleave attacks to eliminate them while avoiding damage.
Venture Co. War Machine:
Immune to CC. Occasionally deploys Crawler Mines. Charged Shot deals heavy group damage over 3 seconds—use defensives and healing cooldowns as needed.
Ordnance Specialist:
Avoid circles summoned by Artillery Barrage.
Mogul Razdunk Boss Fight
Shortly after engaging, the boss summons 2 B.O.O.M.B.A bots that intermittently fire Micro Missiles in front of them. These missiles target specific arena sections, so the group must move to safe spots before firing. Bots reposition after each shot, requiring constant awareness.
Homing Missile targets a random player and explodes with a 20-yard AoE after 10 seconds or on contact. If possible, use a combat drop ability to drop the missile away from the group. Otherwise, the targeted player should use defensives and kite the missile safely.
Gatling Gun is a frontal attack that rotates 360 degrees randomly. Tanks must be ready to reposition based on the rotation. The boss does not use melee attacks but fires instant-cast Alpha Cannon, so physical or melee mitigation is ineffective.
At 50% health, the boss becomes immune and starts the intermission, summoning 2 Venture Co. Skyscorchers and throwing 3 Big Red Rockets into the arena. The player targeted by Drill Smash must run near these rockets to break the boss’s immunity stack. Staying near a rocket throughout the phase helps this process.
Once all rockets are destroyed, the fight returns to the previous phase. Skyscorchers continuously use Buster Shot on random players—focus them down quickly and use defensives to reduce damage.
