Official and Rumored Release Dates for Marathon
Marathon Release Date Estimate
Updated 12 Apr 2025 – ~2 min read
Bungie’s most anticipated flagship game, Marathon, has sparked considerable buzz among fans wondering when exactly the release will occur. Although Bungie has not yet confirmed an official launch date, following the gameplay reveal on April 12, 2025, all indications point to either an April 27, 2025 debut or a full release in 2026.
The studio has confirmed that Marathon’s closed alpha will run from April 23 to May 4, exclusively for North America. In addition, the official launch is currently scheduled for September 23, 2025.

In an October 2024 dev update, Game Director Joe Ziegler mentioned plans for large-scale testing in 2025, potentially including both closed and open beta phases that would provide players with an early glimpse of the game. However, given the extensive changes implemented under Ziegler’s guidance, a complete launch might eventually slip into 2026.
This update follows earlier comments by Bungie CEO Pete Parsons, who in 2019 predicted that a non-Destiny title would be released by the end of 2025. With Marathon undergoing “aggressive changes” in recent weeks, that original timeline now seems uncertain.
Rumors had circulated about an April 27, 2025 release based on a date-like code spotted on a Runner’s leg during the reveal trailer. Since Bungie’s headquarters are in the U.S. and the number was formatted in UK style, the community largely dismisses this theory—especially after Ziegler’s latest update.
One thing is clear: development is moving at a rapid pace. While a formal release date remains unconfirmed, the countdown has unquestionably begun.
