What matters about the mode right now

Path to Doomsday: Avengers - Age of Ultron is a cooperative PvE mode inside Marvel Rivals. It launched on July 30, 2026 with that day's patch, while Season 9 was live. The mode is free: every reward is earned in play, with no spending required. It runs on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series, and it is not available on PS4.

Data is current as of 10/17/2026. The Times Square activities window closed on August 27, 2026 at 09:00 UTC. No end date has been announced for the PvE mode itself, and the whole Path to Doomsday series is built toward a finale in December 2026, so treat this page as a reference for mechanics and rewards.

In short: a run is built for four players, there are seven heroes and two difficulties, and every upgrade lasts only until the attempt ends. There is no permanent gear, so each run starts from zero.

The mode suits anyone who wants a free skin and cosmetics without buying anything, a group of four friends, and players coming back after a break who want to relearn the heroes without extra pressure. Newer players can jump in too: Normal is open from the start.

How a run works

The action takes place in Avengers Tower. The team fights off waves of Ultron Sentries, completes the active objective and picks upgrade cards between fights. The finale is a showdown against Ultron himself; according to player reports, part of the fight takes place in his Data Space.

There are two difficulties, Normal and Hard. Hard unlocks after you clear Normal once with any hero, so you start on the base level. It is also a handy way to learn the maps and cooldowns before mistakes get more expensive.

A run is built for a team of four, so agree before the start on who plays which hero: a roster of seven heroes lets you avoid duplicating roles.

Rewards: what the mode gives

Rewards split into one-time prizes for clears and cumulative ones for overall progress. Here is the full list:

For most players the main goal is the movie-inspired Ultron costume. It is tied to a Hard clear and costs nothing. If you want other cosmetics for your collection too, the skins unlock service can help.

Times Square offered two more rewards with no PvE needed: an exclusive spray for watching the Highlights Screening for two minutes straight, and 100 Units for a group photo with NPCs at the Iconic Scenes Photo Ops walls near the Avengers' Gift Shop. That window is closed. If you collect everything in sight, keep the game's overall achievements in mind too.

The seven heroes and their roles

The mode uses a fixed roster: Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye and Scarlet Witch. Their kits are reworked for PvE, so experience from regular matches carries over only in part.

Hulk and Hawkeye ready for battle side by side

In regular matches the seven split into two roles, which is a good starting point:

  • Vanguards: Captain America, Hulk and Thor.

  • Duelists: Iron Man, Hawkeye, Black Widow and Scarlet Witch.

How abilities changed in PvE is best checked in the game itself during the first waves. For early runs, pick a hero you have already played in regular matches: it is easier to focus on cards and objectives instead of buttons.

Each hero has a personal title for a Hard clear, so over time it is worth clearing the mode with all seven.

Upgrade cards and builds

Cards are temporary: they last until the end of the run and vanish afterward. Between fights you pick one of several, and that choice decides how strong your hero is by the finale.

Players most often put these upgrades first:

  • hero ability enhancements;

  • attack speed;

  • max health and bonus health;

  • damage scaling with health and next-attack damage;

  • cooldown reduction and crit chance;

  • close-range or long-range damage.

Before taking a card, ask yourself three questions: does it strengthen what you already have, does it leave your hero with a health buffer, and does it duplicate a bonus you already own. If all three answers are good, take it without hesitating.

A practical rule is to build around one idea instead of grabbing everything. If the card you want does not show up, strengthen what you already have. For anyone struggling with card choices and ability timing, coaching is a good fit.

Approaching Hard and Ultron

Hard does not change the mission's structure, but it raises the price of every mistake, and this is where card choices matter most.

General tips that fit any lineup:

  • Take a health buffer. Max health and bonus health are among the most popular upgrades.

  • Watch your cooldowns. Basic robots fall to normal attacks, so keep big abilities for dangerous moments and the boss.

  • Keep moving. Movement helps you dodge attacks and keep your tempo, while standing still usually means losing health.

  • Split the roles. Agree who covers which part of the arena instead of scattering alone.

If a run falls apart, do not quit blindly. Recall the wave where you lost the most health and take a different card there next time, or swap heroes.

The order for collecting rewards

To save time, go in stages:

  1. Clear Normal with any hero: that gives 200 Units and the Gallery Card and unlocks Hard.

  2. Clear Hard at least once and claim the Epic Ultron costume in the Missions window. You get the Ultron MVP at the same time.

  3. Build up the cumulative goals: 3,000 enemies for the spray, wave 10 for the emote and 15 upgrades for the nameplate.

  4. If you want every title, repeat Hard with each of the seven heroes.

One Normal clear is enough to open Hard, but a hero title is awarded only for a Hard clear with that specific hero, so title collectors will need to play all seven. The cumulative rewards fill up on their own as you run, so there is no need to chase them separately.

Store bundles and what to do next

A day after launch, on July 31, 2026, four bundles inspired by Marvel Studios films went on sale: Scarlet Witch (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Spider-Man and Hulk (Spider-Man: Brand New Day) and Winter Soldier (Captain America: The Winter Soldier). The announced price is about 1,600 Units for an Epic bundle with a costume, spray, MVP, emote and nameplate. The Ultron costume from the PvE mode is not part of them.

The game kept moving after launch: Season 9.5 with The Hood arrived on August 7, Season 10 on September 11 and Season 10.5 on October 9. Current content has shifted toward seasonal activities.

Once the mode's rewards are done, move on to other goals. Competitive unlock opens ranked play, and a rank boost helps you climb the ladder. For general account progress, try account leveling, and if you would rather queue with a strong partner, you can rent a booster.
