A Murder Mystery in Thebes
Death of Apocalypse was the detective event of Marvel Rivals Season 9, The Mystery of Thebes. It started on July 10, 2026 and ended on August 20. Apocalypse dies during his ascension into the cosmos, the heroes get stuck in Thebes inside the Collapsed Timeline, and then Wolverine, Psylocke, and Gambit fall one after another. Your job is to work out who did it.
No matches were needed. The whole investigation ran through the Events menu: three cases that unlocked one by one, then a finale called The Final Truth. This retrospective collects every answer, the rewards, and the order of play, with data current as of 10/16/2026.
The key rule is simple: the order of clue words matters in every case, and the persons of interest are picked separately. One wrong slot fails the whole page.
How the Investigation Works
Every case follows the same loop: a briefing, a crime scene to inspect, conversations, and a deduction page. You do not need a particular hero, and an unfinished case can be closed and reopened later without losing your clues.
Open the Events menu on the main screen and pick Death of Apocalypse.
Choose an available case and open the investigation page.
Click every glowing point on the artwork.
Read the conversations and collect the highlighted clue words.
On the deduction page, fill in the blanks and pick three persons of interest.
Glowing points sometimes blend into bright effects, so scan the whole image, edges included. One missed clue keeps the correct answer from registering. The game does not show which slot is wrong, so check your page against the lists below.
Death of Wolverine
The first case ties Wolverine's past to Hydra, Bucky, and the strange state of his body. The killer is Bucky: his mechanical arm dealt the fatal wound while Wolverine was in a Berserker Rage, right after he learned that Hydra had forced Bucky to murder his own family. Hive Cells then drained his blood and stopped his healing factor from saving him.

The second case centers on Loki, Psylocke's unusual origin, and an attempt to frame Magik. The killer is Loki. Psylocke comes from the Watercolor Universe, and Loki believed her blood could help him rewrite destiny. He trapped her in an illusion, took her blood, and pinned the blame on Magik.

Death of Gambit
The third case unlocked on July 16, 2026. Gambit was hunting the Tablet of Death and Entropy, and he was not the only one. The killer is The Hood: Parker Robbins shot Gambit with a handgun bullet infused with the power of Oblivion. The Hood became playable on August 7 with Season 9.5, after this case had already gone live.

The Final Truth
The finale unlocked once all three cases were solved. You click Apocalypse's corpse and place three symbols, one from each case, on the sarcophagus: the bloodless corpse (some write-ups call it the corpse hand), Undead Energy, and Phoenix Force. Symbol names and exact positions differ between write-ups, so go by meaning: one symbol per case, then press Reveal the Truth.
The sarcophagus opens and the last scene plays. The finale never names the killer; according to player reports, the ending only hints at a god hunter. Completing it paid out 100 Units.
