Cyclops Four Months After Launch

Cyclops is a Duelist who joined Marvel Rivals on June 12, 2026 with Season 8.5. The game is now on Season 10.5, and he has been tuned several times since, so he plays a bit differently today than on launch day. Data in this article is current as of October 16, 2026.

His job is long- and mid-range beam damage. Guides put his health at around 275 at launch, so he cannot afford melee: he is fragile, and one enemy dive quickly knocks him out of the fight. Some guides rate him as an easy hero, but simple mechanics do not remove the need for good positioning.

If you would rather test him in tougher lobbies than grind for weeks, a rank boost gets you to the level you want to practice at.

Cyclops Abilities

The core loop: hits from Optic Blast and Concussive Beam charge the Ricochet Force meter, and Ricochet Force itself gives him unusual angles and a pool of Bonus Health.

Ability

What it does

Optic Blast (LMB)

Quick bursts of optic energy, his main source of damage. Hits charge Ricochet Force.

Concussive Beam (RMB)

A sustained beam that bounces between enemies and terrain.

Ricochet Force (E)

The beam bends off terrain and tracks enemies, and grants Bonus Health.

Propulsion Burst (Shift)

Pushes Cyclops and the target apart and slows the enemy. His main escape tool.

Optic Ascent (F)

Launches Cyclops upward, knocking back and slowing nearby enemies.

Ruby Rage (Q, ultimate)

He removes his visor and sweeps a wide beam that destroys barriers. Leftover energy explodes for secondary damage.

Kinetic Hover (passive)

Slows his fall while he channels Concussive Beam in the air.

Ruby Rage destroys barriers, so it is a good pick when the enemy is hiding behind shields. Fire it with your team covering you, not alone in open ground.

How to Play: Positioning, Angles and Tempo

Cyclops shines wherever there are walls, corners and tight corridors. Ricochet Force bends off terrain, so he can reach supports and wounded Duelists who are out of direct sight. Open fights from cover and always keep one retreat path.

  • Hold your distance. Do not chase. Let enemies walk into your line of fire and trade damage at mid-range.

  • Save Propulsion Burst for escapes. Spending it on minor repositioning is a waste. Use it when someone actually jumps you.

  • Optic Ascent creates space. The launch and slow buy time to get back to your spot.

  • Watch for shields. If your beam hits a barrier, change the angle instead of pouring damage into it.

  • Time your ultimate with the team. The best moment is the start of a team fight or right after enemies burn their defensive cooldowns.

If you want a review of your own matches, coaching with a trainer can show where you lose health and positioning.

Team-Up and Teammates

At launch Cyclops had the Blast Slash Team-Up with Wolverine: Cyclops was the anchor and Wolverine gained Kinetic Claws with a lunge and a flurry of slashes. Season 9 reworked Team-Ups and removed the anchor role. Cyclops now has a link with Gambit called Kinetic Kin, and in Season 10.5 its duration went from 6 to 8 seconds.

Who to pick depends on your style. Some guides suggest two tanks, one of them holding shields. Any hero that covers dives and breaks enemy lines gives him more time to shoot. A healer in the back also matters, because Cyclops has no healing of his own and the Bonus Health from Ricochet Force only softens damage.

Balance Changes Since Launch

Cyclops has been adjusted several times, and most of the changes buffed his damage and cooldowns.

  • July 2: abnormal Ricochet Force cooldown timers were fixed.

  • July 11: after anchors were removed, Optic Blast damage went from 21 to 22 per tick and Ricochet Force direct hit from 70 to 75.

  • Season 9.5: buffs to his base kit and the Gambit link, including a faster Ricochet Force cooldown reduction from Optic Blast hits.

  • Season 10.5 (October 9): Optic Blast from 22 to 23, Ricochet Force cooldown reduction per hit from 0.25s to 0.3s, Ruby Rage cost from 3700 to 3400.

In practice, your ultimate charges faster and Ricochet Force comes back more often if you land Optic Blast consistently. Aiming well now pays off more than before.

Counters: Who Gives Cyclops Trouble

Fast heroes that jump on him and knock him off position cause him the most trouble. CounterWatch data from July 2026 listed Namor, Black Panther and Rogue among the toughest opponents. Other write-ups mention Spider-Man, Hulk, Captain America, Angela and Cloak & Dagger. Spider-Man and Black Panther show up in several of them.

A simple plan helps against them: stay near your team, avoid lone flanks and keep Propulsion Burst ready. If a diver is on the other team, get your teammates to cover you before you step onto an open angle.

Cyclops Skins

At launch he got the Weapon M skin as part of the X-Men drop, alongside Magik Soulless Sword and Phoenix White Crown. A combo bundle with Phoenix included nameplates, emotes and MVP cutscenes. In August, Elegant Eye arrived in a bundle with Phoenix Viridian Vogue and Daredevil Attorney at Law. Prices change, so check the in-game store. If you want cosmetics without a long grind, a skins unlock service can help.

Is Cyclops Good for Beginners

It is a comfortable start: a standard six-button kit and no complicated combos. The difficulty is map awareness, since you must know where you can be reached and where to retreat. Frequent newcomer mistakes are standing in front, wasting Propulsion Burst and firing Ruby Rage in open ground.

To play ranked, the mode has to be open first. If it is still locked, a competitive unlock takes care of it. For a session with an experienced partner, try renting a booster. And for top ranks, there is the path to One Above All.
