The Hood in Marvel Rivals: Energy, Combat and Team-Up Choice
What The Hood brings to a team
The Hood (Parker Robbins) joined Marvel Rivals on August 7, 2026 with the Season 9.5 update as a Vanguard. He shoots hitscan pistols at medium range, shields allies with a barrier and briefly turns into a half-demon. He is not a front-line shield tank. He needs open firing lanes, cover and targets that feed his resource.
Everything he does revolves around Demonic Energy. Landing shots, absorbing attacks and flying with Void Walk all fill the meter. Once it is full, Half-Demon State kicks in and The Hood becomes an aggressive gunner with lifesteal for a few seconds.
After the Season 10 balance patch (September 11, 2026) he has 550 health, down from 600 at launch. He is still a big target, so it pays to duck behind a corner on time and not waste cooldowns.
Demonic Energy and Half-Demon State
The energy meter replaces the usual reload rhythm. It grows from pistol damage, from attacks absorbed by Mantle of Oblivion, and from Void Walk, which adds 20 points at once.
Above 50% energy the Accursed Pistols fire faster, so the second half of the meter fills much quicker than the first. At full energy Half-Demon State starts: the weapon switches to rapid fire, ammo becomes infinite and every hit heals The Hood.
The transformation triggers by itself, and that is the main trap. If the meter fills in the middle of an open area, you fight from a bad spot. A few seconds before it tops out, step next to cover and pick a target. Exposed healers and duelists are the best choices.
Abilities button by button
The kit is compact and every ability serves one loop: gain energy, cover the lane, strike as a half-demon. Here is the PC summary.
Ability | Input | Effect |
|---|---|---|
Accursed Pistols | LMB | Dual hitscan pistols, fire rate rises above 50% energy |
Leaded Transformation | LMB | In Half-Demon State: rapid fire, infinite ammo, lifesteal |
Mantle of Oblivion | RMB | Spherical barrier around The Hood that blocks incoming attacks and builds energy |
Abyssal Veil | E | A veil that reduces enemy damage and healing and blinds those who cross it |
Void Walk | Shift | Free flight in the Void, damages nearby enemies on return |
Ruinous Pact | Passive | Collects Demonic Energy and triggers Half-Demon State |
Demon of the End | Q | Up to six piercing shots that ignore barriers and grant Bonus Health |
Above 50% energy Mantle of Oblivion grows wider. Since Season 10 its cooldown is 12 seconds instead of 10, so it cannot be spent on every small threat.
Abyssal Veil cuts damage from projectiles that pass through it and reduces enemy healing, while The Hood's own shots through it gain energy faster and heal more. Place it between enemy healers and their front line. Demon of the End gives Bonus Health to The Hood and nearby allies, so fire it when enemies are bunched up.

Team-Ups and ally boosts
The Hood has two Team-Up abilities of his own. Your pick sets the style of the whole team.

New Moon's Shadow (with Moon Knight). Abyssal Veil becomes a Lunar Barrier, and The Hood's attacks passing through it bounce. This is the safe option for standard front-line fights.
Chaos Collision (with Scarlet Witch). Creates an arcane zone with stacking damage and healing reduction on enemies. Reactivating teleports The Hood to the center of the zone, and Scarlet Witch's shockwave pulls enemies toward him. It suits aggressive engages, but the teleport drops him into the thick of the fight.
He also powers up other heroes' Team-Ups. Jubilee's Hellfire Sparks gets a boost from The Hood, and in Season 10 Magik's Void Pentagram cooldown went up from 15 to 20 seconds.
Game plan and positioning
A working match loop looks like this: put the veil on the key lane, build energy from behind cover, close the Mantle when enemies push, and enter Half-Demon State near a safe angle. On attack, use natural cover and keep Void Walk as your escape. If every push starts with the flight, you have nothing left when you need to leave.
On defense The Hood controls doors and narrow paths, and Abyssal Veil is especially annoying when the enemy has only one way forward. On objectives, save the ultimate for a cluster of enemies: the Bonus Health helps your team survive the first damage trade.
A few habits that improve results quickly:
Check the energy meter before stepping into the open.
Build at least 50% energy before using the Mantle, so it comes out wider.
Do not chase when Half-Demon State is about to end. Return to cover.
Use corners to hide the large model.
Void Walk helps against mobile flankers and gets you to high ground before the ultimate.
To unlock everything faster, you can order Account Leveling, and if ranked mode is still locked, Competitive Unlock will open it.
Best teammates
The Hood shines next to heroes that add control, healing and protection. Treat these as suggested pairings, not strict rules.

Moon Knight and Scarlet Witch. His Team-Up partners: Moon Knight for a careful style, Scarlet Witch for an aggressive one.
Groot. Walls restrict enemy movement and line them up for the piercing ultimate.
Mantis. Healing, damage boost and reliable single-target control.
Doctor Strange. Another barrier that covers the gaps between cooldowns.
Luna Snow. Steady healing for aggressive Half-Demon pushes.
Magik. Applies close pressure while The Hood works from medium range.
The Hood does not heal allies. He only has lifesteal for himself and Bonus Health from the ultimate, so bring a healer.
Who gives The Hood trouble
He struggles against long-range burst, fast flankers and attacks from several directions. Typical awkward matchups, based on player experience:

Hawkeye. Punishes the large model on long sightlines.
Psylocke. Reaches his flank with stealth and fast movement.
Magik. Forces close combat and follows up after an escape.
Mantis. Spore Slumber can shut down his strongest pressure window.
Emma Frost. Displaces him and pressures him through control.
Doctor Strange. His shield soaks regular gunfire and covers grouped allies.
Against these heroes, play closer to your team, keep Void Walk for escaping flankers and avoid turning into a half-demon in the open. To climb faster, you can order Rank Boost, and for the very top results there is One Above All.
The Hood skins
He launched with three looks.
The Hood. The default costume, available with the hero.
Sinful Blackout. One of three costumes in the Pick Your Own bundle, next to Iron Fist and Moon Knight.
Oblivion's Whisper. A separate costume in the in-game store.
If you want a look without spending extra time, the Skins Unlock service can help.
Is The Hood good for beginners
He suits players who already handle hitscan comfortably. The primary weapon and the visible meter make the basic loop easy to read, and Void Walk forgives small positioning mistakes.
The difficulty is that Half-Demon State starts on its own. A newcomer should get used to checking the meter before entering open ground and learn where to place the veil, because a bad spot costs both offense and defense.
Season 10 weakened him: the veil now cuts projectile damage by 20% instead of 35%, and the ultimate converts 50% of damage into Bonus Health instead of 60%. The core loop is the same, but positioning mistakes cost more.
Practice the plan in quick play first and take it to ranked later. Three habits are enough for the first games: shoot the nearest enemy tank, close the Mantle when pressured and fire the ultimate into a group.
