Marvel Rivals Season 9.5: The Hood, Balance Patch and Summer Events
What the Middle of Season 9 Brought
Season 9.5 launched on August 7, 2026 as the second half of The Mystery of Thebes. The headlines: a new Vanguard, The Hood, balance changes for 18 heroes, a summer event and fresh cosmetics. Data is current as of October 16, 2026: Season 10 arrived on September 11 and its mid-season update on October 9, so everything below describes a finished stage.
Maintenance began at 09:00 UTC and lasted about two hours. There was no new map, mode or Battle Pass in 9.5: Thebes and Path to Doomsday landed back in July, and Faith-Harvesting Engine stayed the main pass of the season. No rank reset was announced, so progress simply carried on.
If you were returning after a break, coaching from experienced players and a quick account leveling run helped you reach ranked matches and new heroes sooner.
The Hood: A Vanguard With Twin Pistols
The Hood steps onto the frontline with twin pistols. He has two forms, human and demon.

Weapons. Twin pistols.
Cloak. Channels Oblivion energy and shields allies.
Dark orbs. Turn into barriers that weaken incoming fire.
Ultimate. Full Demon State turns him into a Gun Demon: piercing rounds, plus bonus health for nearby teammates.
Damian Priest voices the character. An enhanced Team-Up arrived for the pairing with Jubilee through her Hellfire Sparks. Newcomers should learn the timing of the shield and barriers first and hold the demon form until the whole team is committed to the fight.
Balance: Who Got Stronger, Who Got Weaker
The patch touched 18 heroes: six Vanguards, eight Duelists and four Strategists. A good part of the changes target enhanced Team-Ups rather than base abilities.

Vanguards.
Devil Dinosaur: the first four Frenzied Feast hits deal 8% instead of 5%, the fifth 12% instead of 10%. The Surf & Turf Team-Up with Jeff the Land Shark lasts 5 seconds instead of 4 and heals for 60 instead of 40.
Doctor Strange: Daggers of Denak hit for 18 instead of 16, with 12 projectile charges instead of 10. The Gamma Maelstrom cooldown with Hulk drops from 8 to 6 seconds.
Magneto: Metallic Chaos gets a small Launch Up effect with Scarlet Witch.
Peni Parker: Cyber-Web Snare now applies Web-Tracer and a 30% slow, a second hit roots for 0.7 seconds, and she holds two charges. Bonus Health cap drops from 200 to 150.
Rogue: Defensive Stance reduces damage by 60% instead of 55%, Regenerative Shield grows from 250 to 275.
Venom: Symbiotic Resilience gives 110% of lost health instead of 120%, Venom Swing cooldown rises from 8 to 10 seconds.
Duelists.
Black Panther: the Storm Team-Up damage fell from 40 to 30 and its cooldown rose from 12 to 15 seconds.
Cyclops: Optic Blast hits cut Ricochet Force cooldown by 0.25 seconds instead of 0.15. With Gambit, the Concussive Beam attack frequency boost grows from 10% to 15%.
Elsa Bloodstone: with Devil Dinosaur, Smoky Snare has 50 health instead of 100 and its control lasts 1.2 seconds instead of 1.5.
Hela: Undead Monstro with Namor deals 10 damage instead of 15.
Moon Knight: bounces lose 20% damage instead of 30%. Luminous Moon with Cloak & Dagger gets a 12-second cooldown and a 15-meter dash, and the enhanced version adds healing after the phase.
Phoenix: Spark detonation deals 40 instead of 35, splash 15 instead of 12. Telekinetic Beatdown with Rogue rises from 45 to 55.
Wolverine: each hit taken grants 8 Rage instead of 5, decay starts after 5 seconds instead of 4, and at max Rage it drains at 10 per second instead of 15.
Scarlet Witch: with Doctor Strange's enhanced effect, Mystic Burst gets an 8-second cooldown and an 8-second duration.
Strategists.
Gambit: the Magneto Team-Up spell field launches enemies once per second instead of every half second.
Jubilee: Energy Plasmoids deal 11 damage instead of 10 and heal for 15 instead of 14.
Loki: Mystical Missile speed rises from 100 to 120 m/s.
White Fox: Kumiho Unleashed costs 4,300 energy instead of 4,800, and Blessed by the Nine lasts 3 seconds for allies within 10 meters.
By the numbers, Moon Knight, Wolverine, Rogue and White Fox gained the most, while Peni and Venom lost durability. For ranked play that meant rethinking familiar comps, and players who wanted to settle in quickly turned to rank boosting.
Summer Events
Three events ran next to the ladder in 9.5, each with its own rewards and timing.
Event | Start | What it offers |
|---|---|---|
Summer Festival Vol. 2 | August 13 | Summer cosmetics, six swimsuit costumes |
Krakoan Reels Vol. 2 | Season 9.5 | Fishing minigame: bait comes from matches |
Creed of Akabba | Season 9.5 | Mini-pass with Free and Premium tracks |
Creed of Akabba hands out a free Punisher costume, Sandstorm Soldier, for completing missions, while the premium track holds a Jeff-Pool skin. Twitch Drops ran from August 7 to September 4 (the reward was Elsa Bloodstone in her Will of Galacta costume), and a Captain America: The Winter Soldier screening in Times Square ran August 7 to 27, where two minutes of watching unlocked a spray.
If you could not clear every task by hand, you could rent a booster to speed it up, and the achievements service covered profile goals.
Skins and Cosmetics
Three costumes hit the store on August 7 in the new Pick Your Own format, where a buyer chooses one of three: The Hood in Sinful Blackout, Iron Fist in Furious Flow and Moon Knight in Fist of Khonshu.
The Swimsuit Special set went to six heroes: Star-Lord, Winter Soldier, Scarlet Witch, Black Cat, Storm and Magik. The first three (Scarlet Witch, Magik and Storm) were listed for August 14 on the roadmap.
One more addition: Lady Loki's Guardian of Mischief costume lets you toggle and customize movement and ability animations in the costume menu. For collecting the skins you want without a long grind, a skins unlock did the job.
Ranked and Rewards in the Second Half
No mid-season rank reset was announced, so ranks and scores stayed in place. The first-half Season 9 reward was the Crimson Crown costume for Jubilee. In earlier seasons the second-half Gold costume took 10 competitive matches and a finish at Gold or higher, and the same scheme was expected for 9.5.

If ranked mode is still locked for you, you need a competitive unlock. For those aiming at the very top, the One Above All service covers the full push to the maximum rank, rewards included.
Install Size
Season 9.5 made the game noticeably smaller. According to the patch notes the savings are roughly 30% on PC, about 20% on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and about 7% on PS4. The announcement spoke of around 40 GB on PC and 15 GB on consoles.
For a small SSD that is a real difference: some space came back without deleting other games.
What to Keep in Mind
Season 9.5 was a modest expansion rather than a reboot: one new hero, one sizeable balance patch and a few events. For the current game, Season 10 and its second half matter more, and this recap works as a reference for where today's hero tweaks came from.
