Marvel Rivals Season 9: The Mystery of Thebes and What It Changed
An Egyptian season and what matters most
Season 9, The Mystery of Thebes, launched on July 10, 2026 and is built entirely around an Egyptian theme. Three things matter most to players: the new hero Jubilee, a reworked Team-Up system and a serious overhaul of Black Widow.
The rest arrived over the summer: the Thebes map, the Path to Doomsday mode and the hero The Hood. Data is current as of 10/16/2026: Season 9 can be judged as a whole, and Season 9.5 and Season 10 have since launched.
The main idea of the season is more choice before the fight and fewer rigid templates. Team-Ups are picked for the match, some heroes get a different health profile, and Black Widow got a different playstyle. This affects hero picks in ranked and how a team agrees on its composition.
July 10: season launch, Jubilee, new Team-Ups, Black Widow, Battle Pass.
July 23-24: the update that added Thebes.
July 30: Path to Doomsday: Avengers: Age of Ultron mode.
August 7: Season 9.5 and The Hood. Season 10 arrived on September 11.
Jubilee and The Hood
Jubilee joined at launch as a Strategist. She heals allies with energy plasmoids, damages and blinds enemies, and her Ultimate turns into a firework show across the whole battlefield. She is a support who does not just sit behind the tank.

When you pick up a new hero in ranked, do not try to squeeze everything out of Jubilee in the first match. Work out when a blind saves your line and when it is better to simply heal. The fastest way to polish this is coaching with a pro.
The Hood joined later, with Season 9.5 on August 7.
Jubilee suits players who are tired of being just a healer: she has her own damage and crowd control through blinds, so she is more comfortable where the team likes active trades. If your composition relies on a quiet healing line, she will work less well, so keep that in mind when you pick a hero for a tough map.
Team-Ups and the Regenerative Shield
Team-Ups used to be tied to a fixed pair of heroes. Now every hero has two fully independent Team-Up loadouts, and you pick the one that fits the situation.
You can switch loadouts before the match, between rounds and after returning to spawn, for example after a hero swap.
The base effect works even without a partner on your team.
The enhanced effect kicks in when the right ally is present.
Classic combos such as Metallic Chaos are back.
In practice this means choosing the ability for your composition and the fight you expect, not out of habit. If your usual partner is not on the team, you do not lose the ability entirely.
Before the round, look at your team composition and decide whether you have a partner for the enhanced effect.
If there is no partner, choose the loadout whose base effect is useful.
Between rounds, revisit the choice: when the hero or the fight plan changes, the right loadout changes too.
The second system change is the Regenerative Shield. It is a new type of health that recovers when you avoid damage for a short time. Some tanks and divers received it along with a lower base health pool. Angela's base health dropped from 450 to 350 with 200 shield added, and Captain America went from 600 to 300 plus 300 shield.
For a diver the takeaway is simple: after a failed entry, fall back behind cover and wait rather than re-engage with a half-empty pool. For the enemy team it is a reason to finish targets right away, before they reset.
The Black Widow rework
Black Widow went from a sniper to a mid-range fighter. Damage per shot is lower, but the fire rate is higher, so her primary now feels like a semi-auto weapon.

What changed:
Her old Ultimate became a regular ability.
The new Ultimate temporarily brings back sniper mode: piercing shots, a larger hitbox, 6 shots over 20 seconds or until they run out. Crits still do not one-shot.
Stamina limits on sprint and super jump are gone.
A new ability launches her toward a target and slams her gauntlets into the ground (Widow's Bite Slam).
Where she used to wait for one perfect shot, she now keeps steady pressure on flanks and in mid-range fights. For climbing, that means consistent damage rather than living off a single headshot. If you want a quick result, take a look at the Rank Boost service.
She suits players who like entering from the flank and finishing fights at mid-range. If you are used to long scope duels, you will have to adjust: sniper mode is now available only during the Ultimate, and it is best spent on a cluster of targets.
Faith-Harvesting Engine Battle Pass
The season pass is called Faith-Harvesting Engine and is themed around Deaths on the Nile. The premium track costs 990 Lattice and includes 10 costumes. Some rewards, including the Namor and Ultron costumes, are available on the free track.

Hero | Costume |
|---|---|
Elsa Bloodstone | Primal Predator |
Mister Fantastic | Red-Y 4 Action |
Iron Man | Iron Pharaoh |
Namor | Lord of Atlantis |
Venom | Venom Bloom |
Cloak & Dagger | Storied Survivor |
Rocket Raccoon | Golden Artificer |
Mantis | Akkaban Acolyte |
Ultron | Ultron-15 |
Deadpool | Dead Mummy |
If you play little, start with a few costumes from the free track and the heroes you play most. That way pass progress works for your playstyle instead of collecting for the sake of it.
If you missed the pass and want specific costumes without a long grind, Skins Unlock can help. For overall account progress there is Account Leveling.
Thebes, events and the tournament week
Thebes is a new Convoy map. It went live after the July 23 update, which also added a toggle to hide Team-Up visual effects on your own screen. Hero balance was not changed in that patch.
Convoy maps expose poor positioning immediately: a late rotation by either team is punished fast. On Thebes it matters more to agree on holding points than to play solo.
Before your first game on the new map, run it in a quick match and note where the payload is easiest to hold and where attacks come from. A couple of such matches teach more than learning the map in ranked.
The Path to Doomsday: Avengers: Age of Ultron game mode started on July 30, and the Ignite Series Mid-Season Finals ran in Los Angeles from July 29 to August 1. Twitch Drops were active from July 10 to August 7.
How to use Season 9 today
Season 9 is over, but its changes - two Team-Up loadouts, the Regenerative Shield and the new Black Widow - set the base for later seasons. Balance may have shifted since, so the numbers above describe the Season 9 launch.
New to ranked: unlock the mode first with Competitive Unlock.
Want to play next to a strong player: try Rent a Booster.
Completing your collection: check the Achievements and the One Above All service.
The best order is simple: learn both Team-Up loadouts on your favorite heroes, then try Jubilee and the new Black Widow on Convoy.
