Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has 20 launch Multiplayer maps on October 23, 2026. Only 12 belong to ordinary Core 6v6. Gunfight, Ground War and the modular Kill Block have separate assignments, so a headline count of 20 does not mean 20 maps in your preferred playlist.

The patch reference for this guide is the official Launch Patch Notes dated October 22, including the listed early-access fixes. Shipment is scheduled for October 27 and is not counted as available today. This guide covers Multiplayer; campaign locations, the DMZ playspace, Warzone and training courses do not increase this roster.

All Modern Warfare 4 Maps and Multiplayer Categories

Small, medium and large Multiplayer groups, with modular Kill Block kept separate.

Core maps for 6v6

All 12 maps in this section are new launch Core maps, available from October 23. Treat medium as a broad scale: it does not tell you whether the next fight is across a room or along an open approach. No universal three-lane layout or fixed spawn pattern should be assumed.

Cachette

A French rail-terminal setting combines a former wine warehouse and mechanic's garage converted into an armory. The useful distinction is enclosed workspace versus the surrounding approaches. Start with an AR for mixed engagements; take an SMG only when committing to shorter routes. Avoid chasing an indoor opponent straight into an unchecked open crossing. Detailed elevated positions are not established by the published description.

Coal

Coal is an old Soviet coal-processing complex in mountainous terrain, with a collapsed smokestack, ore chutes, processing buildings and a polluted river floodplain. Industrial structures and exposed ground suggest a mixed-range approach. An AR is the flexible starting choice; an LMG suits a prepared lane. Check the approach before leaving cover rather than treating machinery as protection from every angle.

Lithium

This Mexican lithium refinery sits beneath the Sierra Mountains. The official overview shows industrial structures, terraced quarry walls and pools, giving it a different visual profile from a flat urban arena. Use an AR while learning how the plant and surrounding terrain connect. A precision weapon is a situational choice for an observed longer lane, not a reason to assume every terrace is accessible.

Lotus

A damaged South Korean fishing village brings together a market, hostel, boathouse, gardens and residential blocks. These distinct landmarks make Lotus our suggested starting point for learning a mixed environment. Use an AR between areas and consider an SMG for a deliberately short route. Check transitions between buildings and outdoor spaces; a familiar landmark does not establish where enemies will respawn.

Mumbai

Dense housing surrounds a Victorian market, with a rail line cutting through the district. Expect to choose between built-up surroundings and the rail corridor rather than treating the whole map as close range. An SMG favors a committed approach through tighter spaces; an AR covers a more varied route. Check a crossing before following a teammate through it, especially when several sightlines can meet.

Munition

A North Korean command facility contains a munitions depot, monitoring rooms, hangars and a connecting skybridge. The crane and water tower are landmarks, not automatically confirmed climbable positions. The bridge makes attention to elevation worthwhile. An AR gives flexibility between rooms and exterior views; an LMG is a defensive option when teammates cover other approaches. Do not stare upward while neglecting a nearby entrance.

Nautical

Fighting takes place aboard a South Korean ferry, with debris across the decks and fires toward the bow and starboard side. Contrast deck exposure with the cover available along your actual route. An AR is a safer mixed-range baseline than choosing a shotgun for the entire vessel. Debris can complicate target reading; the setting alone does not confirm damaging fire, usable doors or routes between every deck.

Reactor U92

The reactor complex is defined by a concave command room, a containment pool and electrical damage. Large internal spaces can still produce longer engagements, so indoors does not automatically mean shotgun territory. Try an AR and check adjacent approaches before holding a distant angle. A close-range setup is a route-specific alternative. The environmental effects are not evidence of a verified damage mechanic.

Rooftops

Snow-covered areas above New York's Hotel Times West include a greenhouse, HVAC platforms, boiler room, patio, skylights and laundry room. This is the clearest Core candidate for learning to check different heights. An AR adapts to changing exposure; a precision weapon requires a selected sightline. Avoid assuming the most visible rooftop is the safest position, or that every skylight is a traversable route.

Sentry

A snowbound military base places a maintenance garage, generator room and substation around command facilities and damaged barracks. Whiteout conditions make target identification an important consideration. Favor controlled AR fire and shorter, readable engagements while learning the surroundings. Do not turn a snow-obscured view into an assumed sniper advantage. Exact visibility distances and map-specific launch visibility changes are not published here.

Silkworm

This dense South Korean shopping district links perimeter apartment alleys with a convenience store, gaming den and central subway entrance. It is our Core recommendation for players who want to practice short approaches with an SMG. An AR remains useful when a route exposes several distances. The central entrance is a useful orientation landmark, but holding one approach leaves the others unchecked.

Transit 213

An overgrown bus parking area in western India sits between a repair shop, gas station and surrounding construction. Buses divide views and make it important to check the next gap before advancing. Start with an AR, then try an SMG if your chosen route stays close to cover. Background high-rises do not prove accessible sniper floors. Resist pursuing a target through several unchecked gaps in succession.

Small Gunfight arenas

Cafe, Library, NYC and Smuggler are launch 2v2 Gunfight maps. They are separate from the Core pool. Gunfight supplies matching loadouts and changes them every two rounds: adapt to the weapon you receive instead of expecting to equip your preferred class. Small scale also leaves room for longer angles.

Cafe

A Paris courtyard has a theater, kiosk and a central fountain that interrupts the middle view. The statue offers elevation, while the perimeter has longer lines with limited cover. Check whether the supplied weapon rewards a close approach or a patient angle. Climbing for information also exposes you; agree with your partner which side each player is watching.

Library

Bookshelves create tight concealment opportunities, and stairs reach a raised central walkway overlooking both sides. Check the upper level before rushing the center. A close-range supplied weapon encourages using shelf cover, while a precision loadout changes the value of the walkway. The main risk is watching the floor and overlooking the elevated opponent.

NYC

A central stage is surrounded by stands, equipment and vendors on a winter night. Ground-level obstacles support covered approaches, and scattered elevated viewpoints create a second layer to watch. Use the supplied weapon to decide whether to move between objects or hold a view. Do not assume the stage controls every possible route.

Smuggler

Rail cars offer fights inside, alongside and above them, with ladders reaching their roofs. Side warehouses encourage shorter encounters; the ends provide more open space. Choose your approach around the current loadout. A roof gives a view but also creates exposure, so check the opposing angle before committing to a climb.

Kill Block and changing layouts

Kill Block is one launch battleground at the Westbridge Training Facility, supporting 3v3 and 10v10 Gunfight. Its modular spaces reconfigure between rounds, with more than 500 combinations. This makes a memorized opening route less dependable than reading the new arrangement and communicating with teammates.

Sections take inspiration from Crash, Highrise and Shoot House. Those references do not add three standalone remakes to the launch roster. Scale, sightlines and useful positions depend on the configuration; there is no single fixed lane diagram to learn. Reassess the supplied weapon and immediate cover after each change. Do not queue expecting ordinary Core objective modes on this map.

Large Ground War maps

Imjin Farmland, Wolves Stadium and Forest are launch 32v32 maps. The current format takes priority over older 24v24 listings. Combat Outpost connects territory control with additional team deployment locations, so supporting a capture can matter as much as winning an isolated distant duel.

Imjin Farmland

Fields, waterways, farms and a mill form the rural outskirts of Hajin, crossed by roads and rail lines. Open views and vehicle movement make it our first long-range recommendation. A sniper or Marksman Rifle suits an observed distant angle; an AR is more adaptable when approaching buildings. Plan the next piece of cover before crossing open ground and avoid letting a distant target pull you away from the objective.

Wolves Stadium

The stadium district combines multistory buildings, transit lines, tunnels, roofs and surrounding hills. This is a large urban map with substantial vertical and route variety, rather than an uninterrupted sniper field. An AR is useful for changing distances; an SMG is a deliberate close-route alternative. Check above and below your position, and coordinate a building approach rather than following everyone into the same exposed line.

Forest

A wooded hillside lies between Imjin Farmland and Wolves Stadium, with streets, off-road paths and southern rail tracks. The hilltop watchtower, gas station and barracks provide orientation points. Snipers and LMGs suit prepared views, while an AR helps when advancing toward buildings. Trees can obscure an attacker without making the approach safe. Avoid tunneling on the hilltop while leaving a side path unwatched.

Choose a map for the fight you want

The following groups describe opportunities, not exclusive roles. Library can still offer an elevated angle, and Wolves Stadium can produce room-distance encounters. Route choice usually matters more than a size label.

Suggested close, mixed and long-range opportunities; the actual route remains decisive.

Match the route to the weapon

Carry the weapon-role logic from our previous guide into map selection. SMGs suit short approaches on Silkworm or the built-up parts of Mumbai. Shotguns are a narrower option for verified tight interiors; avoid taking one simply because a map contains buildings. ARs are the flexible baseline for Lotus, Cachette and Transit 213.

LMGs reward preparation on a chosen Coal or Ground War lane, with a safe place to reload and teammates watching alternatives. Marksman Rifles suit deliberate medium-to-long views when you can land repeatable hits. Snipers are easier to justify on Imjin Farmland or selected Forest views than on a route demanding repeated close entries. These are recommended roles, not guaranteed damage ranges or map-specific bonuses.

Start with recognizable landmarks

For beginners, we suggest Lotus for learning transitions between distinct village areas or Cachette for separating its main buildings from exterior approaches. Use an AR and learn one return route before adding more aggressive flanks. This is an orientation exercise, not a claim that either map has easier opponents or predictable spawns. Gunfight is useful for practicing communication, but its limited lives punish unchecked movement.

Four playstyle choices, subject to the active mode and playlist.

Objectives and respawns change the route

Team Deathmatch rewards eliminations, Kill Confirmed adds tag collection, Domination rewards holding objectives and Hardpoint moves the active scoring area. In an available objective playlist, choose an approach that helps your team reach or defend the current objective. A distant kill is less useful if it leaves the scoring area unsupported. Do not assume a suggested weapon route is also the fastest objective rotation.

Search & Destroy uses rounds without respawns. Preserving a teammate, checking an approach together and avoiding an isolated challenge therefore matter more than repeatedly forcing the same route. Frontline is a distinct respawn case with team-base deployment and a side change during the match. Do not apply that rule to every mode.

The launch patch revises player separation, squad spawning and Hardpoint spawn predictability after the beta. It does not publish a fixed spawn chart for every map. Reassess teammates, objectives and the current engagement instead of assuming a cleared end stays empty. Exact flag positions, bomb sites and Hardpoint sequences require the current mode's map information; this overview does not invent them.

The official launch mode list is not a complete map-by-mode matrix. Check the active playlist's eligible maps before planning a session. No verified current Ranked pool, Ranked ruleset or map-exclusion list is available in the reviewed launch material. Public Core maps therefore are not presented as a Ranked roster. A complete live map-voting and Quick Play filter specification was also not established; follow the choices the current lobby actually offers.

Shipment and the post-launch schedule

Shipment is scheduled to join Core 6v6 on October 27. Its history begins with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare in 2007. For MW4, the official announcement describes a small Russian-harbor setting retaining the classic layout with visual and gameplay improvements. It does not provide a measured scale comparison or confirm new doors, routes or vertical positions.

On October 23 it remains an announced addition, not a twenty-first available map. No expiry is stated, but the announcement does not establish a permanent dedicated playlist or support for every mode. No additional live seasonal map or event variant was verified at this cutoff. Planned modes are not extra maps, and no confirmed temporary map removal was found in the reviewed notices. A map missing from one playlist should not automatically be called removed from the game.

Frequently asked questions

How many maps are currently in Modern Warfare 4?

There are 20 launch Multiplayer maps on October 23, 2026: 12 Core, four Gunfight, three Ground War and Kill Block. Shipment is scheduled for October 27 and is excluded from that live count.

Which maps are best for close-range fights?

We recommend Silkworm and tighter Mumbai routes for Core SMG play. Library offers compact Gunfight encounters, but its raised walkway still matters and the mode supplies your weapon. Choose the route as well as the map.

Which maps suit snipers?

Imjin Farmland and selected Forest views offer strong reasons to choose a long-range role. Wolves Stadium also has distant angles, alongside tunnels and close buildings. An exposed elevated position is not automatically a safe sniper nest.

Will more maps arrive after launch?

Yes. Shipment is announced for October 27 as a post-launch 6v6 addition. Further seasonal pools, variants and playlist restrictions should be checked against their own release notices rather than treated as already available.
