MoP Classic Phase 4: Escalation and Gearing Guide

ByTardius

Last Updated:20 Oct 2026

Mists of Pandaria Classic Phase 4 is Escalation. It launched with regional maintenance on March 31, 2026 in North America and April 1 in Europe. Its focus is the rebellion against Garrosh, small-group scenarios and Wrathion's next reward. There is no new raid in this phase.

This guide describes the Phase 4 progression window. Checked on October 20, 2026: Phase 5 had already launched on June 2. Battlefield Barrens was a limited event, so its route below is not a promise that the original event remains available. Timeless Isle, Siege of Orgrimmar and the finished legendary cloak belong to Phase 5.

Isle of Thunder, Throne of Thunder, Nalak and Oondasta arrived during Phase 3. They matter to an Escalation gearing plan, but calling them new Phase 4 content gives returning players the wrong calendar.

Classic phase boundaries and the correct order of major releases

Start with Cho, then follow your faction

At level 90, look for War is Coming in your Pandaria faction hub and report to Lorewalker Cho at the Seat of Knowledge, above Mogu'shan Palace in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms. Blood in the Snow and Dark Heart of Pandaria are part of the introductory story. Follow the campaign rather than travelling directly to the Barrens and searching for a vendor.

The Horde helps Vol'jin withstand the Kor'kron and organise the Darkspear rebellion. The Alliance uses SI:7 reconnaissance around Orgrimmar to exploit Garrosh's weakening position. Both sides participate in the wider uprising; this is not a Horde-only equipment event.

Four scenarios join the selection: Battle on the High Seas, Blood in the Snow, Dark Heart of Pandaria and The Secrets of Ragefire. Completing the story introduces the conflict that the next raid phase resolves.

Heroic Scenarios: the useful new daily option

Six scenarios have Heroic versions in Escalation: the four new scenarios, plus Crypt of Forgotten Kings and A Brewing Storm. Heroic difficulty does not apply to the entire existing scenario catalogue.

Bring a premade group of three and select the Heroic Scenario option in Group Finder. Coordinate interrupts, defensive abilities and bonus objectives before pulling. These short encounters reward careful execution; trying to save seconds by ignoring a dangerous cast often costs the group more time.

Take Heroic Deeds before your first eligible run. Its Bulging Heroic Cache of Treasures grants a guaranteed item level 516 epic once per character. The regular daily Heroic Cache only has a chance to contain a 516 item. Repeated runs do not guarantee another piece.

The daily completion awards 120 Valor, with another 50 available for the bonus objective. The normal and Heroic scenario daily bonuses share the same allowance: choose the difficulty your group can finish reliably. A 516 reward is a useful bridge, not the equipment ceiling of the phase - Normal Throne of Thunder already drops 522 gear.

Battlefield Barrens: choose a reward before farming

During the Phase 4 event, collect Kor'kron Lumber, Oil, Meat and Stone in Northern Barrens. Camps, overturned shipments, caravan escorts and group kills of commanders feed the same resource loop. Check which material is missing instead of repeatedly clearing a convenient camp that supplies something you already have.

The weekly Battlefield: Barrens turn-in requires 150 of each resource and awards Radical Mojo. Infusing one suitable Latent Kor'kron armour token with one Mojo produces an epic 489 item for your specialisation. The latent token is not wearable equipment by itself. For example, Ravika's latent chest token costs 100 Oil and 100 Lumber, in addition to the Mojo needed to finish it.

Ravika is at the rebellion headquarters near Razor Hill. Mojo also buys the Gahz'rooki pet or Raptorhide Boxing Gloves, which unlock an optional Brawler encounter. Decide between collection and a missing armour slot before spending the weekly reward.

For an alt with a very weak slot, 489 can help. For a character already using Celestial or raid gear, the event is primarily a story and collection route. Building a whole set through weekly Mojo is an inefficient replacement for dungeon gearing. After the limited event, use the sources available in your current phase instead of following this launch-era circuit.

Isle of Thunder: established content worth revisiting

Start Thunder Calls from your Pandaria faction hub, travel to the Shado-Pan Garrison in Townlong Steppes and follow your faction's introduction and portal to the island. Ground travel applies on Isle of Thunder; do not plan a flying route between objectives.

The island originally opened through a staged offensive in Phase 3. Escalation does not start that server-wide campaign again. A returning character still needs its own introductory and assault scenarios to advance personal phasing, including the route to the Thunder Forge and final courtyard. If an NPC or entrance seems absent, check unfinished island quests first.

Kirin Tor Offensive is the Alliance daily faction; Sunreaver Onslaught is the Horde counterpart. Hiren Loresong and Vasarin Redmorn are their respective quartermasters. Their rewards include earlier catch-up equipment, scenario supplies and faction collectibles. Reputation with one is not reputation with the other.

Shado-Pan Assault is separate. Its primary repeatable progression comes from Throne of Thunder, although island quests and rare insignias also contribute. The daily hub factions do not replace raid reputation. Visit Ao Pye at Niuzao Temple or Teng of the Flying Daggers on the island for Assault purchases.

For a useful island visit, finish any missing campaign scenarios, check the world boss group, then do dailies or rare hunting only for a specific reputation, key or collection goal. A Key to the Palace of Lei Shen opens Troves of the Thunder King through Taoshi: a timed solo treasure run, not a raid difficulty. Treasure chests and rare enemies support this outdoor loop but do not guarantee raid-quality equipment.

Priorities on the already-open Isle of Thunder during Escalation

Throne of Thunder remains the raid target

The raid opened on December 11, 2025. Normal and Heroic support 10 or 25 players. The route leads through 12 encounters to Lei Shen; defeating Heroic Lei Shen unlocks the additional encounter with Ra-den. Do not count Ra-den as a thirteenth Normal boss.

MoP Classic has no Raid Finder version. There is no Phase 4 LFR wing timetable to follow, and the four named sections of the raid are not four separately queued Classic releases. Celestial Dungeons provide an alternative route to equipment associated with the missing LFR tier.

These are base loot values before later upgrades. Heroic Thunderforged items are 541: the Classic item records and the six-level Thunderforging rule resolve the conflicting 542 figure in Blizzard's summary table.

Tier 15 tokens come from Council of Elders for gloves, Ji-Kun for legs, Dark Animus for chest, Iron Qon for shoulders and the twin encounter for helm. Exchange the appropriate class token with Ao Pye or Teng. The set's bonuses and targeted weapons or trinkets can matter more than a small increase in average item level.

Horridon and Ji-Kun also have rare mount rewards. Treat them as optional collection targets, without budgeting a guaranteed drop. Ra-den offers additional high-end loot after the Heroic progression requirement, not an outdoor shortcut for a fresh character.

World bosses and gearing without a full raid schedule

Nalak becomes available after the island's final offensive stage and offers Normal Tier 15 gloves or legs alongside PvP rewards. Oondasta is on Isle of Giants and opened on December 18, 2025; its equipment is 522. Neither boss debuts with Escalation. Join an organised group and treat the weekly loot opportunity as a supplement, not a guaranteed solution for one missing slot.

Celestial Dungeons are the repeatable small-group backbone inherited from Phase 3. Their Thunder King reward selection includes 502 equipment and Celestial Tier 15 options. The relevant Phase 4 currency is August Stone Shard. Do not use the later Phase 5 August Stone Cluster vendor catalogue or its reduced legendary quest costs as a Phase 4 shopping list.

Valor remains useful for Shado-Pan Assault 522 gear. A Neutral necklace costs 1,250 Valor; at Friendly, rings cost 1,250 and trinkets 1,750. Those vendor items are not Tier 15 set pieces. Prioritise a strong effect or a weak slot, and avoid buying a cloak immediately before finishing Wrathion's 600 reward.

Escalation also extends equipment upgrades beyond the Phase 3 Thunderforging ceiling. Keep two systems separate: the earlier Classic upgrade that brings ordinary raid pieces up to their Thunderforged equivalents, and the additional eight-level increase available in this phase. A fully improved Heroic off-set piece can reach 549; Heroic Tier 15 reaches 543. A Thunderforged drop is therefore not automatically stronger than the fully improved ordinary version.

Visit the item upgrader in your shrine and inspect the specific item, current upgrade rank and displayed currency cost. Do not use the expired early-Phase 3 Valor price or assume every item follows the same path. Buy a planned Assault item with Valor before converting or spending currency elsewhere; preserve Justice for an upgrade that actually benefits your build.

Crafted items and previous raids can still fill gaps when their price or set bonus makes sense. Escalation is not a new crafting tier: Thunder King profession unlocks and recipes belong to the existing island progression. Price the finished item against dungeon and Valor alternatives rather than assuming every new phase requires a crafted set.

Wrathion: finish the prerequisites, then claim the cloak

Chapter IV, Celestial Blessings, continues after Chapter III, including its final Heart of the Thunder King step. Return to Wrathion in the Tavern in the Mists in the Veiled Stair. Having the legendary meta gem alone does not mean the entire previous chapter is complete.

Visit all four August Celestials and complete one role-appropriate challenge: White Tiger for melee damage, Jade Serpent for ranged damage, Red Crane for healing or Niuzao for tanking. Cloak of Virtue then awards one of six epic 600 cloaks with a prismatic socket. Select for your role and primary stat.

This chapter does not award the final legendary proc. That conversion arrives in Phase 5. If you are behind, continue the chapters in order and use Classic's Celestial Dungeon alternatives where the quest permits them. Do not wait for an LFR queue that does not exist.

PvP, solo goals and a sensible weekly plan

Escalation does not start Season 14. Season 13, with Tyrannical Gladiator gear, continues through this phase; its announced North American end was May 25, 2026 at 10 p.m. PDT. Season 14 begins with the June phase. Deepwind Gorge and Tiger's Peak were already introduced earlier in Classic, so they are not new Phase 4 maps. Honor and Conquest remain separate PvP currencies, not substitutes for Valor, Justice or Barrens supplies. Do not apply the original 2013 patch's vendor prices or rating rules as new Classic launch changes.

Brawler's Guild adds encounter ranks and challenge cards for players who want solo tests. These are optional achievements and collection goals, not prerequisites for Throne of Thunder. Class tuning also has its own timeline: the February maintenance adjustment removed temporary power bonuses before Escalation. Recheck your specialisation guide rather than treating historical patch 5.3 class notes as the Classic balance sheet.

For a new level 90 in the Phase 4 window, repair the weakest slots through accessible dungeons, advance Wrathion and take the one-time Heroic Deeds reward when ready. Next, target Celestial purchases and a useful Assault item, then join Normal Throne of Thunder. A geared raider should protect raid attendance and finish the cloak; Barrens collectibles and Brawler fights can fit around that schedule.

Choose the route for your character; Phase 5 introduces a different catch-up environment

Frequently asked questions

When did MoP Classic Phase 4 begin?

Escalation launched with regional maintenance on March 31, 2026 in North America and April 1 in Europe. It has since been followed by Phase 5.

How do I reach Isle of Thunder?

Take Thunder Calls in your Pandaria faction hub, report to Shado-Pan Garrison in Townlong Steppes and complete the introduction. Continue your personal assault scenarios if island phasing blocks later steps.

Does Throne of Thunder open in Phase 4?

No. It opened on December 11, 2025 during Phase 3. Phase 4 adds no raid; Normal and Heroic Throne of Thunder remain the raid progression options for that window.

What should a returning player do for gear first?

Use accessible dungeons, advance Wrathion, take Heroic Deeds for the one-time 516 epic, then target Celestial and Assault purchases. At today's later phase, check the current catch-up options instead of relying on the expired Barrens event.
