Winter Orb Elementalist: links, tree and equipment in PoE 3.29
Winter Orb Elementalist alternates short spell preparation with movement between safe positions. You maintain the orb first, then use its automatic firing to change angles and move through enemy packs. Damage is only part of the problem: stopping to maintain the skill must leave a way to survive the response.
This plan concerns Path of Exile 1 and the 3.29 changes. Its foundation is a wand and shield, Life with Energy Shield at the start, and a separate later rebuild into Chaos Inoculation. These are different character states: reaching a one-Life keystone does not by itself make allocating it a good transition.
Begin with a functioning link and sustainable mana. Add critical strikes, curses and protection afterward, checking the setup following each substantial change. Rare items form the baseline; an expensive charge system using several uniques requires recalculating the entire character separately.
What changed for Winter Orb
In 3.29, Winter Orb fires two to three projectiles at gem levels 1-20 instead of the previous one. The gem gained a 25% chance to Freeze, its base critical strike chance became 7.5%, and its listed cold damage at level 20 is 360-539. These are gem parameters rather than your finished character’s DPS.
Distinguish gem level from channelling stages. This change ties the base projectile count to gem level. Channelling and stages concern another aspect of the orb: its activity and firing rhythm. Three projectiles do not automatically mean three times the damage against any target.
When choosing supports, compare coverage comfort with single-target damage first. Reassess the old advice to occupy a socket with extra projectiles automatically: the base skill changed. Avoid transferring an older six-link without checking its support cost and how its benefit appears at your fighting distance.
Who this character suits
Winter Orb suits somebody who wants to alternate preparation and movement rather than aim every individual shot continuously. Clearing and fighting a stationary single target make different demands: maps reward quickly restoring an active orb, while bosses require finding channelling windows.
The main limitation is the price of an unsafe stop. Freezing helps control a suitable target without replacing resistances, defensive capacity and recovery. An opponent surviving the opening or resisting ailments immediately tests the remaining layers.
Avoid judging the start solely through a finished expensive charge-stacking version. Assemble rare gear and the main skill first. CI, more complicated curses and simultaneous replacement of several items are separate stages rather than mandatory purchases before the first functioning map.
Elementalist Ascendancy
Use four notables for this route: Liege of the Primordial, Mastermind of Discord, Shaper of Storms and Heart of Destruction. Together with their preceding small nodes, they consume eight Ascendancy points.
Order | Notable | What the setup must account for |
|---|---|---|
1 | Liege of the Primordial | Grants +2 maximum summoned Golems, their immunity to elemental damage, and resummoning four seconds after being killed |
2 | Mastermind of Discord | Your Exposure applies an additional -25% to the affected resistance; having inflicted Exposure Recently enables 1% mana regeneration per second |
3 | Shaper of Storms | Hits always Shock, all damage can Shock, and Shocks from your hits increase the target’s damage taken by at least 25% |
4 | Heart of Destruction | Hitting a Unique enemy grants Convergence no more than once every eight seconds; without Convergence, area of effect is increased by 60% |
Liege should not be described as unlimited improvement to Golem buffs: its listed properties are specific. When using additional Golem types, check their individual usefulness and available sockets. Avoid expecting an effect absent from the selected notable.
Mastermind requires a real Exposure source. Allocating it alone does not mean every cold hit already inflicts Exposure. Cold Mastery supplies that function in the later setup below; until the source is obtained, avoid counting the resistance reduction as permanent damage output.
Three passive-tree states
Connected routes from the Witch start were prepared for this plan using the official 3.29.1 tree export. The counts below are ordinary allocated core nodes, excluding Masteries and the eight Ascendancy points. They are not character levels and do not promise an identical order for every quest reward.
The early hybrid core occupies 19 points. It travels through Deep Wisdom, Heart and Soul, Cruel Preparation, Annihilation and Arcane Focus. This retains Life, adds mana and Energy Shield, and begins developing critical strikes without disabling ordinary survival tools.
The middle hybrid core occupies 53 points. Heart of Ice, Light Eater, Arcane Guarding, Snowforged, Nimbleness and Arcane Sanctuary join the earlier directions. This combines cold damage, speed, ES recovery and shield-based protection. Evaluate this version before deciding whether to move into CI.
The later CI core occupies 100 ordinary points and is rebuilt rather than added to the early route. Its anchors are Deep Wisdom, Arcane Focus, Heart of Ice, Light Eater, Arcane Guarding, Snowforged, Nimbleness, Arcane Sanctuary, Chaos Inoculation, Ghost Reaver, Foresight, Unnatural Calm, Insightfulness, Throatseeker, Whispers of Doom, Instability, Infused, Deflection, Safeguard, Fingers of Frost and Deep Thoughts.
This version needs separate Mastery points. Account for refunding old Life nodes and rebuilding before buying the setup. Avoid leaving the character between states: an isolated CI allocation on hybrid equipment is not a completed defensive system.

The editorial route’s core using official 3.29.1 data. Masteries and eight Ascendancy points are added separately; the diagram does not represent a combat test.
Masteries: useful effects still have costs
Direction | Selected effect | Practical condition |
|---|---|---|
Cold Mastery in one cluster | 10% chance to inflict Cold Exposure on hit with cold damage | Supplies Exposure for Mastermind; the tree reminder specifies -10% Cold Resistance for four seconds |
Cold Mastery in another cluster | +1 to all Cold Skill Gem levels and -30% Fire Resistance | Two different cold clusters separate these choices; compensate for the lost fire resistance |
Critical Mastery | 50% increased effect of non-damaging ailments inflicted with critical strikes | This is not 50% more damage or an increase to every parameter of every ailment |
Mana Mastery | 12% increased Mana Reservation Efficiency of Skills | Requires access to the appropriate Mastery; inspect actual unreserved mana after enabling skills |
Allocate a Mastery through a suitable cluster with an allocated notable. An effect appearing in the tree’s list does not make it automatically accessible to your route. Heart of Ice and Fingers of Frost support two cold clusters in the later core, while Deep Thoughts supports checking the Mana Mastery choice.
Establish Exposure and recovery before purchasing another cold-gem level at a resistance cost. If a new point creates a substantial vulnerability, it is not yet an improvement even when the displayed damage number rises.
Four alternative Mastery directions
The following effects are also available in the 3.29.1 tree. They are not automatically included in our route: you first need a suitable notable in the corresponding cluster, followed by a separate Mastery point. None of these four categories is unlocked by an allocated notable in the published late core.
Mastery | Verified effect | Decision for this variant |
|---|---|---|
Armour and Energy Shield | Recover 5% of ES over 1 second when you take Physical Damage from an Enemy Hit | Situational recovery rather than instant healing after any damage. Consider it when rerouting towards Faith and Steel or Sanctum of Thought; it is currently unallocated |
Charge | 3% increased Damage per Endurance, Frenzy or Power Charge | This is increased damage rather than a separate more multiplier. Its value requires charges you actually sustain; until the item-based charge system is verified, we spend no additional points here |
Evasion and Energy Shield | 30% increased Evasion Rating while you have ES | This increases Evasion Rating rather than providing a 30% chance to avoid a hit. Our rare equipment prioritises ES and resistances; without an appropriate Evasion base and rerouting towards Void Barrier or Soul Thief, this is not a priority |
Minion Defence | +8% to all maximum Elemental Resistances for minions; maximum resistances cannot exceed 90% | This affects minions rather than the player. Our golems already have Elemental Damage immunity through Liege of the Primordial; we do not add a route to Golem Commander or another qualifying notable solely for this effect |
Charge Mastery appears, for example, in the Disciple of the Forbidden and Overcharged clusters; neither notable is allocated in the current core. An increased maximum charge count does not itself guarantee charges during combat. Before making that change, verify generation, consumption and sustained availability, then compare the result with the defensive points you would give up.
Allocate five Masteries separately for the later version: Cold Exposure through Heart of Ice, +1 to cold gem levels at a fire-resistance cost through Fingers of Frost, critical-ailment effect through Throatseeker, mana reservation efficiency through Deep Thoughts, and ES regeneration through Unnatural Calm. All five clusters are accessible in the stated core. Together they require 105 ordinary points: 100 core nodes and 5 Masteries; the 8 Ascendancy points are separate. The number 105 is not a character level.
CI, Ghost Reaver and recovery
Chaos Inoculation sets maximum Life to one and grants immunity to chaos damage. Energy Shield then becomes the main defensive pool. Before switching, obtain suitable equipment, dependable resistances, answers to dangerous ailments and a clear recovery method outside ideal circumstances.
Light Eater grants 0.8% of spell damage leeched as ES, increases maximum total ES recovery per second from leech, and adds damage while on full ES. Ghost Reaver directs leech to ES instead of Life and doubles maximum total ES recovery per second from leech, but prevents Energy Shield Recharge.
That last line matters. After Ghost Reaver, ordinary ES recharge cannot be planned as a fallback recovery method. Foresight and certain other nodes combine useful ES capacity with recharge properties; the second property existing does not mean it works through that prohibition.
Choose the Energy Shield Mastery in the Unnatural Calm cluster: “Regenerate 2% of Energy Shield per second”. This node recovers ES without hitting a target; Ghost Reaver’s prohibition on Recharge does not turn Regeneration into Recharge. The baseline CI plan therefore has two distinct recovery sources: leech while landing spell hits and regeneration outside contact. Account for area modifiers that restrict recovery.
Zealot’s Oath applies Life regeneration to ES instead. This is a separate option requiring an actual regeneration source. The keystone does not create regeneration from nothing. For each change, establish recovery while hitting, after leaving a target and during a boss interruption.
Track Attack Block and Spell Block separately too. Arcane Guarding and Arcane Sanctuary require a shield; Safeguard provides ES recovery when spell damage is blocked. Several such nodes do not mean every block type is already capped.
Skill links through progression
Stage | Main link | Purpose of the transition |
|---|---|---|
Initial Winter Orb | Winter Orb - Infused Channelling - Arcane Surge - Increased Critical Strikes | Establish a manageable skill and understand channelling cost |
Fifth socket | Add Focused Channelling | Compare stationary use with movement and mana expenditure |
Later six-link | Winter Orb - Infused Channelling - Arcane Surge - Focused Channelling - Power Charge on Critical - Increased Critical Damage | Develop critical strikes and charges once mana already works |
Avoid replacing every support simultaneously. Another socket may increase expenditure, while changing a critical support may alter the frequency of events supporting the rest of the setup. After each replacement, test stage generation, prolonged contact and restarting after movement.
Begin curses with Frostbite. After obtaining the additional Curse from Whispers of Doom, use Arcanist Brand - Frostbite - Elemental Weakness. Avoid adding Punishment and Assassin’s Mark on top without separately solving the curse limit.
Movement uses Shield Charge - Faster Attacks - Momentum and a separate Frostblink with Arcane Surge at an appropriate expenditure threshold. Check the support’s level through actual activation rather than assuming every gem must reach maximum level. A wand and shield retain the selected Shield Charge arrangement.
Add Herald of Ice for clearing. Introduce Tempest Shield and Discipline as mana and protection become ready. Ice Golem remains the baseline Golem; consider additional Lightning Golem and Chaos Golem within Liege’s expanded maximum and available sockets. Avoid filling every equipment slot with utility while leaving no room for the main link.
Utility link conditions
Shield Charge requires a shield; Faster Attacks and Momentum can support this attack. However, Momentum is lost when you move: do not rely on permanently full stacks while charging. Frostblink provides a separate teleport, shares a cooldown with other Blink skills and costs mana. Linked Arcane Surge activates after its spending threshold rather than simply because the gems are linked.
Arcanist Brand attaches to an enemy and periodically triggers linked spells. Frostbite and Elemental Weakness fit this link, but it does not increase the curse limit. Supported skills have 40% less area of effect, so do not treat the two curses as permanent coverage of an entire enemy pack regardless of the brand’s position.
Choose golems for their actual contribution. Ice Golem grants increased critical strike chance; Lightning Golem grants attack and cast speed as well as mana regeneration. In this version, Chaos Golem’s bonuses concern chaos resistance and damage over time multiplier rather than the old physical damage reduction. After CI, chaos resistance does not replace another defensive layer, and damage over time multiplier does not increase ordinary Winter Orb hits. The third golem in the placement example is therefore available space rather than a mandatory improvement to later CI; do not occupy it without a useful purpose.
Example gem placement
For a planned set with 6 sockets in the body armour, 4 each in the helmet, gloves and boots, and 3 each in the wand and shield, arrange the listed skills as follows. These are requirements for the selected items and an example placing all the stated utility skills; introduce the additional Golems and reserving skills as the character becomes ready.
Selected item | Placement | Occupied |
|---|---|---|
Body armour: 6 slots | Later main Winter Orb link | 6 |
Helmet: 4 slots | Arcanist Brand - Frostbite - Elemental Weakness | 3 |
Gloves: 4 slots | Ice Golem, Lightning Golem, Chaos Golem | 3 |
Boots: 4 slots | Shield Charge - Faster Attacks - Momentum | 3 |
Wand: 3 slots | Frostblink - Arcane Surge | 2 |
Shield: 3 slots | Herald of Ice, Tempest Shield, Discipline | 3 |
This arrangement occupies 20 of the specified 24 sockets, leaving one each in the helmet, gloves, boots and wand. Arcane Surge in the main link and beside Frostblink counts as two separate gem copies here. Spare sockets do not replace unreserved mana: the ability to activate the complete set of reserving skills requires a separate check.
How the five supports work
A level 1 Winter Orb requires character level 28 and has a base mana cost of 2; at gem level 20 its base cost is 4. This is a base use cost, neither expenditure per second nor the final six-link cost. All five later supports meet the skill-type conditions for manually channelled Winter Orb; turning the skill into a totem requires a separate support selection.
Support | Cost multiplier | Practical role |
|---|---|---|
Infused Channelling | 130% | Supported skill damage and protection while channelling; at gem level 20, 29% more damage. Protection grants 12% less Damage taken from Hits while Channelling. |
Arcane Surge | 130% | The buff requires mana expenditure by the supported spell: a threshold of 15 at level 1 and 400 at level 20. A high gem level does not guarantee quickly gaining the buff. |
Focused Channelling | 100% | Costs rise by 20% more per second channelled, up to 100% more. At level 20, damage rises by 24% more per second, up to 60% more. |
Power Charge on Critical | 120% | On a critical strike, the chance to gain a Power Charge is 35% at level 1 and 54% at level 20; this is not a charge on every hit. Grants 4% more damage per Power Charge. |
Increased Critical Damage | 130% | At level 20, adds +138% to Critical Strike Multiplier. Its benefit requires actual critical hits; the gem itself does not guarantee a critical strike. |
The cost multipliers in the table are individual support parameters rather than a finished character mana calculation. In particular, Focused Channelling having a 100% multiplier does not remove escalating expenditure: its own cost increase while channelling applies additionally. Choose Arcane Surge’s level around an achievable spending threshold, and assess Power Charge on Critical through critical-hit frequency rather than the tree’s maximum charge count alone.
Mana and reservation
Channelling expenditure and reserved mana are separate constraints. A character may have enough total mana but too little unreserved after utility skills are enabled. The reverse also occurs: the first activation succeeds, but a prolonged fight ends in an interruption.
Base mana reservation is 25% for Herald of Ice, 25% for Tempest Shield and 35% for Discipline: a combined 85% before reservation efficiency and other modifications. This is not the final fraction for the tree with the selected Mana Mastery. Herald of Ice explodes shattered enemies rather than every slain opponent. Tempest Shield requires a shield, grants immunity to Shock and additional Spell Block: 18% at level 1 and 25% at level 20. Discipline adds ES and increases its Recharge Rate by 30%. With Ghost Reaver, the recharge part does not function, although the added ES remains useful; that property does not become regeneration.
Begin with the main skill and necessary protection only. Add Herald of Ice, Tempest Shield and Discipline individually, checking renewed channelling after movement each time. Avoid enabling every progression-stage list together and adding Zealotry and Arctic Armour without a calculation.
Mastermind helps only when Exposure Recently is satisfied. Until a dependable source exists, its regeneration line should not be treated as guaranteed sustain. A mana flask can support a transitional stage without proving endless operation through a long boss phase.
Mana check card before CI
Fill this in for equipped items and gems. Winter Orb’s effective level combines its gem level, +1 from the chosen Cold Mastery and item bonuses. The example below uses 19 + 1 + 0 = 20. If choosing Replica Dragonfang with +3 Winter Orb, recalculate the effective level and base cost.
Input | What to record |
|---|---|
Unreserved mana U | The actual remainder after enabling the selected Herald of Ice, Tempest Shield and Discipline. Their base 25% + 25% + 35% excludes reservation efficiency. |
Peak cost C and interval Δ | The final mana cost per debit at maximum Focused Channelling escalation and the actual interval between those debits in seconds. |
Recovery R and buffer B | Available mana recovery per second; separately check without Exposure Recently or a flask. B covers required movement, Brand and Golem mana during the selected window. |
Verified support arithmetic for effective Winter Orb level 20: 4 × 1.3 × 1.3 × 1 × 1.2 × 1.3 = 10.5456. Focused’s maximum 100% more Cost gives 21.0912. These are intermediate values before Insightfulness’s 16% Mana Cost Efficiency, other changes and game rounding; use C after their application.
For sustained channelling, check R ≥ C / Δ + utility mana spent per second; to start with a buffer, check U ≥ C + B. Include Brand-triggered curse costs actually paid. Check Arcane Surge’s threshold separately. If recovery falls short, retain a Mana Flask, shorten channelling windows or postpone one reserving skill.
Before CI, meet gem and socket requirements and reach current elemental resistance caps without temporary flasks, including the Mastery’s -30% Fire Resistance. Record ES capacity and off-target regeneration; leech requires eligible hits. Exclude Recharge after Ghost Reaver. Selected ailment protection must actually be active.
Equipment: all ten slots
The three columns describe priorities rather than mandatory unique-item sets. Compare the whole character after a replacement: lost resistances, unreserved mana, defence and skill availability.
Slot | Early hybrid | Middle stage | Later CI |
|---|---|---|---|
Wand | Useful cold-spell properties and comfortable channelling | Speed and critical properties without losing mana function | Spell level/damage and critical development suited to the complete setup |
Shield | Life, resistances and available ES | More ES while retaining resistances | High useful ES and properties supporting the chosen block setup |
Helmet | Life and missing resistances | ES, resistances and suitable sockets | ES while retaining ailment protection and resistances |
Amulet | Missing attributes required by items and gems | Useful offensive properties after solving attributes | Level/damage/critical properties coordinated with mana and defence |
Body armour | Working links, Life and resistances | A reliable main link and more ES | The main ES pool and a complete six-link |
Gloves | Life and resistances | Improved defensive properties | ES and required resistances without losing utility sockets |
Boots | Movement speed and protection | Mobility retained while ES grows | ES, mobility and an answer to the relevant ailment |
Belt | Life and missing resistances | Resources and defensive properties | Useful ES/resource contribution instead of unnecessary reliance on Life |
First ring | Resistances and attributes | Mana sustain and defensive gaps | Resistance compensation, including the Cold Mastery penalty |
Second ring | Remaining equipment requirements | Offensive improvement after solving resources | Damage and resources without breaking curse limits or protection |
A system involving Tulfall, Malachai’s Loop, Badge of the Brotherhood, Ralakesh’s Impatience or Anathema cannot be evaluated as unrelated one-item replacements for rares. That branch changes charges, curses and defensive budgeting. Complete the rare baseline first, then recalculate a separate system as a whole.
Anathema ties the curse limit to maximum Power Charges and grants a chance to gain a Power Charge when you Cast a Curse Spell. Use the maximum charge count when planning the limit, and assess generation during combat separately: an activation chance does not guarantee sustained charges. Before switching to this ring, assign specific curses and how you will apply them, then recalculate the properties lost by replacing a rare ring.
How the unique variants work
Item | Key properties of the verified variant | What changes in this plan |
|---|---|---|
Light of Lunaris | Chance to Block Attack Damage contributes to Critical Strike Multiplier; the shield also adds block chance. | Compare Chance to Block Attack Damage specifically. Tempest Shield's Spell Block is a different statistic; reassess ES after replacing the shield. |
Crown of the Inward Eye | Transfiguration of Soul applies increases and reductions to maximum ES to Spell Damage at 30% of their value. Mind likewise applies maximum Mana increases and reductions to Damage at 30% of their value. | For Winter Orb, evaluate Soul and Mind alongside ES and mana pools. Transfiguration of Body concerns Attack Damage; these definitions do not require allocating the corresponding passives in the selected tree. |
Replica Dragonfang's Flight, Winter Orb variant | +3 to the Level of all Winter Orb Gems; increased Reservation Efficiency of Skills. | Choose the Winter Orb line specifically: the verified Smoke Mine bonus variant serves a different purpose. Include reservation efficiency in the complete mana calculation. |
Replica Inya's Epiphany | Damage and Movement Speed scale with Power Charges; the item's recovery line specifies Life regeneration per Power Charge. | Match the effects to available Power Charges. Do not record Life regeneration as a direct ES source for the CI plan; also compare the defences lost from rare boots. |
The Tides of Time | Increases the effect of flasks applied to you; in the verified variant, Mana and Utility Flasks periodically gain charges. | Compare charge generation with the cost and duration of the chosen flasks. Increased Life recovery from the belt is evaluated separately from ES recovery after CI. |
Tulfall | Adds Cold Damage to Spells per Power Charge and grants a Power Charge on killing a Frozen Enemy. Reaching maximum Power Charges loses them all and grants a Frenzy Charge. | Fights without Frozen Enemy kills need another suitable Power Charge source. Account for the Power cycle producing Frenzy when choosing the other items. |
Malachai's Loop | +2 to Maximum Power Charges; reaching maximum loses all Power Charges and Shocks you. | Account for the higher maximum, the reset and Shock together. If relying on Tempest Shield's immunity, that skill must be active. |
Willclash | Spell Block depends on Power Charges. Grants a Power Charge every second if you have not lost Power Charges Recently; blocking loses all Power Charges. | Plan the cycle together with the shield and wand: blocking itself changes charge count and affects the condition for subsequent generation. |
Badge of the Brotherhood | Maximum Frenzy Charges equals Maximum Power Charges. There is a chance to lose Frenzy when using a Travel Skill and Power when gaining Elusive. | Equal maximums do not themselves create Frenzy Charges. Choose a source for them and account for possible consumption while moving. |
Why Shimmeron and Ralakesh need separate checks
Shimmeron is not an unconditional intermediate upgrade over a rare wand. Update 3.29 added +1 to maximum Power Charges and changed its added Lightning Damage to Spells per charge to 3 to 15-25. At the same time, its self-damage after your skills critically strike Recently increased to 300 Lightning Damage taken per second per Power Charge. CI provides Chaos immunity rather than immunity to this Lightning Damage; the transition needs a separate resistance and sustained-recovery calculation, so the baseline retains a rare wand.
For Ralakesh’s Impatience, distinguish item versions. The 3.26 rework gave new copies only one of three “count as having maximum” variants - Endurance, Frenzy or Power Charges - together with 15-25% increased Movement Speed and immunity to Corrupted Blood. That rework did not change existing copies. You therefore cannot take an old description covering all three charge types and assume any copy you find solves the entire charge system. Before replacing rare boots, check the actual line on the specific item and cover the defensive properties you lose.
Flasks, Pantheon and bandits
For early Life with ES, begin with a Life Flask, Mana Flask, Quicksilver, Diamond and Granite. Their jobs concern recovery, resources, movement and the chosen defensive/critical tasks. Check useful suffixes against actual dangerous ailments instead of copying somebody else’s exact randomly rolled percentages.
Flask | Base effect | Charges: consumed / capacity | Role and limit |
|---|---|---|---|
Quicksilver Flask | 40% increased Movement Speed | 30 / 60 | For movement and repositioning; increased speed does not guarantee escaping every attack |
Diamond Flask | 100% increased Critical Strike Chance | 20 / 40 | Increased chance does not mean a final 100% critical strike chance |
Granite Flask | +1500 Armour | 30 / 60 | Additional Armour is not a fixed percentage reduction to every type of incoming damage |
These are ordinary flask base properties before quality and item modifiers: the charge column shows charges consumed per use and maximum capacity. Count the effect only while the flask is active. For a prolonged fight without convenient targets, first establish charge generation and the ability to use the flask; its name alone does not grant a permanent bonus.
After CI, a Life Flask does not restore the main ES pool. Give its slot to required utility protection, such as an appropriate elemental flask, while retaining mana sustain. Avoid assuming permanent uptime for every effect without a charge source and a prolonged-fight check.
A separate later flask set
After switching to CI and solving mana without a Mana Flask, consider a separate later set: Sapphire, Ruby, Topaz, Diamond and Quicksilver. The first three protect against their respective elements, Diamond supports critical strikes, and Quicksilver supports movement. This replaces the early set when ready rather than asking you to remove a Mana Flask before resource recovery works.
Flask | Base protection | Charges: consumed / capacity |
|---|---|---|
Sapphire Flask | +40% Cold Resistance; +5% to maximum Cold Resistance | 20 / 50 |
Ruby Flask | +40% Fire Resistance; +5% to maximum Fire Resistance | 20 / 50 |
Topaz Flask | +40% Lightning Resistance; +5% to maximum Lightning Resistance | 20 / 50 |
The table lists base effects before quality and modifiers; charges are shown as consumed per use / maximum capacity. Ordinary elemental resistance and an increase to its maximum are different properties. Plan protection for gaps without a flask effect too.
Distribute modifiers across the flasks by purpose: reduced Effect of Curses weakens curses during the effect, Chance to Avoid being Stunned adds a chance to avoid a stun, and additional Elemental Resistances covers resistances during the effect. These lines do not mean permanent immunity. For charges, compare increased Charge Recovery with a chance to gain a charge on a Critical Strike: the latter requires a critical strike and a successful chance roll. The selected charge source must suit actual combat frequency.
Pantheon: base powers and upgrades
When channelling Winter Orb, distinguish protection against repeated stuns, Freeze, Chill and Ignite. Brine King is a major power and Abberath a minor power; the upgrade effects below require the corresponding upgrade to be unlocked and active.
Power | State | Effect |
|---|---|---|
Soul of the Brine King | Base | You cannot be Stunned if you have been Stunned or Blocked a Stunning Hit in the past 2 seconds. |
Soul of the Brine King | Recovery upgrade | 30% increased Stun and Block Recovery. |
Soul of the Brine King | Freeze upgrade | 100% chance to avoid being Frozen. |
Soul of the Brine King | Chill upgrade | 50% reduced Effect of Chill on you. |
Soul of Abberath | Base | 60% less Ignite Duration on you. This shortens the duration rather than making you immune to Ignite. |
Soul of Abberath | Upgraded | You are unaffected by Burning Ground. 10% increased Movement Speed while on Burning Ground. |
To upgrade the selected power, open the Pantheon and find the map boss named there. Put a Divine Vessel into the Map Device before opening that map, then defeat the required boss. You can right-click the captured soul to apply it; handing it to Sin remains an alternative. Follow the target in your own Pantheon: the Atlas roster and the bosses assigned to upgrades change between updates.
Before using another vessel, check whether the upgrade is already unlocked. Unlocking it through a Divine Vessel applies to characters in the same league, while using one for an already unlocked power toggles the upgrade for that character. A repeated vessel is therefore not an unconditional improvement: check that the intended protection is active afterward.
Alira grants +15% to all elemental resistances under the reworked bandit rewards. That is a useful early direction and helps with the cold Mastery’s fire penalty. Killing all bandits provides one passive point rather than the old two. Reassess the resistance value against the desired point in the later setup.
Rotation and dangerous map modifiers
Before difficult contact, restore Golems and prepare the orb from a safe position. Apply the selected curses to a tougher target, then alternate channelling with movement toward another cover. On a boss, choose an actual stationary window; automatic targeting does not make continuous channelling under attack safe.
After ES falls, establish whether hits can restore it and whether a safe target exists. With Ghost Reaver, a pause without leech is not ordinary shield recharge. Movement, cover and knowledge of the recovery source must work together.
The dangerous map line is Players Cannot Regenerate Life, Mana or Energy Shield rather than regeneration in general. For a CI setup relying on leech, inspect a leech prohibition separately. Replace that map until a workaround exists.
The selected four Ascendancy notables do not include Bastion of Elements, which contains immunity to reflected elemental damage. Do not assign that immunity to this setup. Leave elemental-reflection maps for a configuration that solves that issue separately.
Judge reduced block against the block type supporting your defence. Reduced area changes coverage and calls for reassessing hits; ailment resistance or avoidance weakens reliance on control. Avoid importing older numerical modifier ranges as universal conditions for every map.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a guaranteed inexpensive league starter?
The baseline plan uses rares, but readiness depends on links, mana and defence. Later CI and expensive charge systems should not be evaluated as the same starting character.
Can CI be allocated immediately when reachable?
Prepare ES, resistances, recovery and answers to dangerous ailments first. CI leaves one Life; an accessible point alone does not make the switch successful.
Do stages add more and more projectiles?
The confirmed 3.29 change ties two to three base projectiles to gem levels 1-20. Avoid replacing that description with a claim that every new stage adds a projectile.
Why not combine every curse from different versions?
The appropriate curse limit is required. This route uses Frostbite separately first, then adds Elemental Weakness after Whispers of Doom grants an additional Curse.
Should damage or defence be upgraded first?
First address what interrupts the fight: mana, unsafe channelling, resistances or recovery. A critical improvement helps when the character can perform its sequence for long enough.
