PoE Allflame Crafting: Vesper, Sulphur and Intangibility
Allflame Crafting in Path of Exile 1 lets you compare several results of one operation and choose a suitable version. This helps when a random modifier could either improve an item or undermine its next crafting step. It does not guarantee a desired property from every craft.
Work takes place with Vesper aboard The Sovereign in Curse of the Allflame. Prepare an item, compatible currency and Dead Man's Sulphur. Before confirming, inspect not only the attempt's price but also the original item's state, available outcomes and Intangibility.
Start with an inexpensive project and a clear objective: add a useful property, improve values or prepare a suitable base for another step. If you cannot explain which result you would keep and what you would do after failure, an expensive attempt is premature.
What happens during a craft
An ordinary currency operation produces a result immediately. Allflame Crafting adds a choice between generated Ghostly Copies. Compare the entire item: an appealing new modifier can come with insufficient resistance, inconvenient attribute requirements or the loss of a property supporting the build.
Use this practical sequence:
Choose an item and define the operation's objective.
Prepare compatible currency and the required Sulphur.
Inspect the item's condition and the displayed attempt requirements.
Examine every available version after generation.
Keep the result that supports the next step, then reassess the project.
In the Allflame Crafting window, place the item in the large slot on the left and the currency in the smaller slot on the right. Before pressing Craft, read the lower panel: it describes the operation and the number of Ghostly Copies it creates. Hovering over Craft also displays the Intangibility added. After generation, compare every version's tooltip and use Make Real on the result you choose. Finish comparing first: the goal is to select a suitable version rather than confirm the first one you see.
Do not confuse selecting one version with receiving every item shown. Budget around a single retained result. Read the outcome count and material expense for the selected operation rather than transferring a figure from another currency type.
Dead Man's Sulphur: the project budget
Sulphur is a resource associated with the league's underwater content and consumed by Vesper's work. Keep two budgets: the currency expense and enough fuel for the planned attempts. Buying expensive currency does not mean the entire project is funded.
Dead Man's Sulphur can be acquired through player trading. Compare buying the required supply with gathering it yourself, budgeting for the entire chain: the starting item, currency, Ducat and subsequent steps. Do not extrapolate one deal's price to the whole market or judge expedition profit from one fortunate return.
First decide how many attempts you can afford and which intermediate result you could use. When that reserve runs out, stop and recalculate. Do not automatically raise the budget because the previous attempt was expensive: resources already spent do not improve the next outcome's chance.
Gathering and spending Sulphur are different activities. During an underwater expedition, avoid jeopardising the return journey for one more resource when the main objective is complete. When comparing another way to obtain the item, include preparation time and expense rather than just one lucky chest's contents.
Intangibility: the chance of losing the choice
In the developers' direct explanation, Intangibility is the percentage chance that a subsequent operation fails to create additional outcomes, leaving just one result. It limits the selection benefit rather than promising item destruction whenever it activates. Successful Allflame Crafts can increase the value, with the increment depending on the operation.
The developers specifically described zero increase for Transmutation and Alchemy. Do not extend that to other currency or assume every attempt necessarily adds the same percentage.
For project planning, use ordinary inexpensive steps where extra selection adds little and preserve Vesper's value for meaningful operations. This is spending advice rather than a new game restriction. Inspect the item's current state after each retained result.
Suppose an item has a hypothetical 30% Intangibility. That describes the risk of receiving only one option next time, not a 30% chance of the desired modifier. This example explains the percentage without specifying a real recipe's value.
Which currency works
The developers described a general principle: the operation uses portable currency valid for the chosen item and crafting interface. The currency's own ordinary restrictions still matter. Having an item in your inventory does not establish that every operation is valid on it.
Begin by comparing simple rarity changes through Transmutation or Alchemy with more expensive property modifications. Choose a Chaos reroll, Exalted Orb addition or specialised operation according to what the project needs. Do not use an action solely because it is more expensive and appears stronger.
Compatibility expanded after league launch: patch 3.29.1 added Ancient Orbs and Orbs of Chance. That specific change matters when reading old exclusion lists. If the interface rejects an operation, check the item, its condition and current currency support rather than repeating an old universal list.
Choose an advanced operation
Choose the action that addresses a specific weakness in the base first. Fossil-filled Resonators, adding influence and fracturing a modifier solve different problems; comparing Ghostly Copies does not remove the currency’s conditions.
Operation | Conditions and outcome | Project decision |
|---|---|---|
Chaotic and Alchemical Resonators with Fossils | Chaotic Resonators reroll a rare item; Alchemical Resonators upgrade a normal item to rare. The Allflame Crafting operation takes socketed Fossils into account. | Match the base rarity to the Resonator type and the Fossils to your desired modifiers. Do not pay for an attempt with the wrong rarity. |
Crusader’s, Redeemer’s, Hunter’s and Warlord’s Exalted Orb | Add the corresponding influence and a new modifier of that influence to a high-level rare item with no influence. | Choose the desired modifier family before adding influence. An item that already has influence does not meet these conditions. |
Fracturing Orb | Locks one random modifier on a rare item with at least four modifiers. Cannot be used on Influenced or already Fractured items. | Start with an eligible base containing a valuable modifier. Do not make an essential follow-up depend on that particular modifier being fractured. |
Orb of Dominance | For Body Armours, Boots, Gloves and Helmets with at least two Influenced Modifiers. Removes one such modifier and upgrades another; a highest-tier modifier becomes Elevated. Upgrading an already Elevated modifier rerolls its values. | Decide which modifier you could afford to lose before the attempt. If removing a candidate would break the plan, reconsider the base first. |
What cannot be transferred into Vesper
Allflame Crafting does not work on corrupted items and cannot be used to corrupt items. Vaal Orb therefore cannot perform that step through this system. If your plan includes corruption, finish the operations you need from Vesper first: after corrupting the item, you cannot continue Allflame Crafting on it.
Each Ghostly Copy shows the result of applying the selected operation to the original item. These are alternatives for one step, not a sequence in which the second version improves the first. Compare the complete versions and select one with Make Real; do not combine the attractive properties of different versions into one expected result.
The system does not work on an item under Hinekora's Lock prediction: the developers explained that the prediction would make the outcomes identical. Mirror also does not fit because it creates an additional item. Harvest and bench operations do not become Allflame Crafts: they are not currencies you can place into Vesper's window.
Reflecting Mist also does not fit: it splits a rare ring or amulet into two mirrored halves, while Allflame Crafting excludes operations that output an additional item. Do not plan that step as another set of Ghostly Copies with Vesper.
Ducats: specialised actions and a separate planner
Ducats provide specialised actions rather than interchangeable tokens with different prices. First establish whether a Ducat concerns item modification or an underwater expedition configuration. A shared word in the name does not imply the same application interface.
Ducat | Action | How to use it in a crafting plan |
|---|---|---|
Rotmother's Ducat | Augments a rare belt with a Trap or Mine modifier. | Choose a rare belt for a build using traps or mines; do not expect an arbitrary defensive property. |
Brinehook's Ducat | Crafts a random Pantheon Aspect Skill onto an item. | Consider how a resulting Aspect would serve the build; random does not promise a selected skill. |
Kishara's Ducat | Splits an item into ghostly forms, each retaining a single random modifier. | Start with an item that already has a valuable modifier for further crafting. |
The Genteel's Ducat | Changes a modifier granting a single Attribute to grant a different Attribute. | This concerns an attribute modifier rather than a universal change to equipment base requirements. |
Katakohi's Ducat | Etches between 1 and 3 sockets on a pair of Gloves, granting random enchantments but rendering those sockets unusable. | Weigh the enchantments against losing usable sockets: gloves carrying a necessary gem setup need a different plan. |
Kishara's Ducat splits an item into ghostly forms, each retaining a single random modifier from the original. It is a tool for isolating a valuable modifier from an item with unsuitable neighbouring properties. A suitable starting item should already contain a modifier worth paying to preserve; an aimless project does not become useful just because the Ducat is rare. The displayed interface creates four Ghostly Copies for this operation. That is an example of a specific crafting window rather than a guarantee of four options at every Intangibility state. Compare the retained modifiers and your follow-up crafting plan before choosing Make Real.
Tzamoto's Ducat randomly either removes all Intangibility from the item or destroys the item. Use it only on a base you can afford to lose.
For example, a 3.29.2 fix specifically concerns the Genteel's Ducat: elevated attribute modifiers previously could not be rerolled with it. This makes the exact modifier type important as well as the Ducat's name. The fix does not imply it changes every property without restrictions.
Patch 3.29.3 expanded the Voyage Planner specifically, allowing up to three Cursed Ducats at once. Do not transfer that limit to the equipment-crafting window. Before spending an expensive Ducat, inspect its target item class, described operation and irreversible consequences, then decide whether it suits the project.

This example shows three ring versions; Make Real selects a result.
Comparing results without losing the objective
Before the operation, write down the item's mandatory requirements: type, essential properties, attributes and defensive values. After generation, eliminate options that violate a mandatory condition first, then compare the remaining versions against the build's improvement and next step.
Do not judge solely by one attractive number. An item with more damage that you cannot currently equip requires additional preparation. A smaller improvement preserving necessary resistance may provide more practical value immediately.
Should every step use Vesper?
No. Use the system where comparing results justifies the Sulphur expense and effect on later attempts. An inexpensive preparation step and a decisive operation need not use the same method.
Does Intangibility guarantee a bad modifier?
No. It limits creation of additional options. The operation itself determines a particular result's quality; Intangibility is not the chance of the desired affix.
Is an old currency list definitive?
No. Support changed after launch, including Ancient Orbs and Orbs of Chance in 3.29.1. Check the specific operation and current item state before spending.
