Masters of the Atlas in PoE 2: Hilda, Doryani and Jado

How the Master System Works

Masters of the Atlas is an Ascendancy-style endgame system that arrived in Path of Exile 2 with patch 0.5.0 Return of the Ancients on May 29, 2026. You decide how your maps behave: tougher bosses, richer loot or a calmer run.

There are three Masters: Hilda, Doryani and Jado. Each has 12 nodes, and 4 are active at a time. You can swap Masters between maps, so you are never locked into one specialization.

The Atlas passive tree stays the foundation, while the Masters are a flexible layer on top of it that you tune for tonight's goal: boss farming, chests or a safe clear. All numbers below reflect the state at the launch of patch 0.5.0, so check the exact node values in game.

In practice this changes the rhythm of the endgame. You open the Atlas, look at the maps available and pick four of twelve nodes for each one. One map calls for boss nodes, another for chest nodes, a third for survivability. The same build can farm completely different things on different evenings.

How to Unlock Each Master

Atlas access opens after the campaign, so you need to reach the endgame first. If you are still in the story, campaign bosses and a full campaign boost get you there faster.

Every Master has their own introduction:

  • Hilda. Visit Hilda's Campsite, southwest of the Atlas starting location.

  • Doryani. Clear a Corruption Nexus as part of the Doryani's Science questline.

  • Jado. Complete an Anomaly map near the starting location, which starts the Spycraft questline.

The order does not matter. Hilda is usually the fastest early unlock: her campsite is close, while the other two require a specific map or nexus.

If a Master does not unlock, check that you met exactly their condition: the campsite for Hilda, the nexus for Doryani, the Anomaly map for Jado.

Hilda: Hunting Strong Enemies

Hilda bets on bosses: map bosses, Rogue Exiles and Pinnacle bosses. Her nodes make elite encounters harder in exchange for better rewards, and they change how Azmeri Spirits behave on your maps.

According to player reports at launch, her nodes included:

  • a 25% chance to upgrade a map boss to a Powerful Map Boss;

  • Azmeri Spirits can no longer possess Rare monsters;

  • a 25% chance to replace one Rare monster with a random map boss;

  • a 5% chance to replace three additional Rare monsters with bosses.

Players called Will of the Draiocht the most memorable node: a Pinnacle boss fight becomes a single attempt, you can enter through one portal only, and a win guarantees two exclusive Unique items from that boss. If you are not sure your build can afford that risk, test it with a Build Check first, and the hardest kills can be handed to a Boss Kill service.

Hilda suits players who like heavy one-on-one fights: a map turns into a series of duels with a big reward at the end.

How to play her: take boss nodes only when your character handles ordinary maps comfortably. Raise the chance of a Powerful Map Boss first, and save Will of the Draiocht for when you know the mechanics of the Pinnacle boss and are ready to commit on the first try. Without a buffer of defense and recovery, that fight turns into a lottery.

Doryani: Flexibility and Defense

Doryani's tree mixes damage, defense and loot. It has tools for safer mapping and ways to make a map harder for better rewards, which is why Doryani is described as the most versatile Master, easy to fit to different farming styles.

Among the nodes players described at launch:

  • an additional Revival on your maps;

  • 25% more effect of prefix or suffix modifiers on Waystones when opening a map;

  • Azmeri Spirits possess monsters only at maximum empowerment;

  • 100% increased Rarity of items dropped by Magic monsters.

The extra Revival is insurance on dangerous maps: one mistake in a fight does not end the run. The Rarity bonus shines on maps packed with Magic monsters. For item farming the plan is simple: pick Doryani, add difficulty through Waystones and collect the richer loot.

This tree is handy when you are unsure about a map. While you learn its modifiers, the extra Revival and defensive nodes give you a safety margin, and once the map proves easy you can push the Waystone effect and squeeze more out of it.

Jado: Map Control and Chests

Jado works inside the map: the tree boosts chests, boss rewards and loot density. The Jado questline is called Spycraft, and the tree fits players who farm for the number of items rather than one big fight.

Nodes described at launch:

  • a 20% chance to double the effect of Precursor Tablets;

  • 50% increased Exceptional Items found;

  • map bosses drop an additional Unique item;

  • Strongboxes have a 100% increased chance to be Unique;

  • 100% increased amount of Rare Chests.

Players also mentioned using Corrupted Waystones to open portals to a random map layout. If it works as described, an awkward map can be swapped for one that suits your route. To make the most of this you need a build that clears at speed, and a Custom Build can be made for exactly that.

Hilda and Jado solve different problems. Hilda offers rare but heavy fights, while Jado turns every map into an item source: more chests, better odds of Uniques and an extra reward from the boss. If your goal is to gather gear for your build quickly, start with this tree.

Which Master to Pick: Quick Summary

Since Masters can be swapped between maps, the question is not who is best but what you are farming right now.

Master

How to unlock

Focus

Best for

Hilda

Hilda's Campsite

Bosses, Rogue Exiles, Pinnacle bosses

Fans of hard fights

Doryani

Corruption Nexus (Science)

Damage, defense, loot

Players who want versatility

Jado

Chests, boss rewards, map layouts

Item farmers

For your first maps after the campaign it makes sense to begin with Doryani: the Revival safety net forgives mistakes. Once your build firms up, move to Hilda for bosses or Jado for loot.

A good habit: before each map, ask one question. Do I need items, a boss fight or a calm clear right now? The answer decides the Master and the four nodes. If the result disappoints you, you can rebuild the combination on the next map.

Getting Ready for Maps With Masters

Masters amplify what you already have rather than replacing a build. Before raising difficulty through nodes, make sure your character survives maps without them. If your level falls short, power leveling helps. A custom build tailored to your goals can close the weak spots.

Before heading out, check three things: whether you have enough defense for a strong boss, whether you have a recovery buffer and how fast the build clears packs. If those are in order, the Masters give a real boost. If not, strengthen the character first and choose the calmest nodes, for example Doryani with the extra Revival. That way one mistake will not cost you the map, and you can get used to the mechanics.

If you want variety between maps, the Simulacrum and the Trial of Chaos are nearby. And if you do not have time to figure it all out, renting a booster lets you run maps alongside an experienced player.
