The First Descendant Ultimate Weapons Tier List by Role

Choosing an Ultimate weapon in The First Descendant is easier by role than by one maximum-DPS ladder. Fast farming rewards coverage and movement pace; a Colossus demands realizable damage and part accuracy; a skill setup needs the right interaction between a unique ability and the character.

This editorial ranking covers several useful investment directions. S means a high priority for the stated task, while A means a strong conditional specialization. It is neither a complete weapon list nor a measurement of every build in an identical endgame test. An appropriate invested gun often contributes more than a new one without modules or an enhanced Unique Ability.

The ranking accounts for reworked abilities rather than launch descriptions of Thunder Cage, Greg or Piercing Light. Ultimate also cannot be described as the only highest class: Transcendent exists as a separate category. Compare available choices in your own content and identify the intended build before committing major resources.

A tier list for practical investment

Greg's Reversed Fate

Attacks with additional Bombardment

The target remains in the area of subsequent hits

A

Secret Garden

Compatible Tech/Dimension skill setup

Actually using skills that trigger its ability

A

Piercing Light

Aimed attacks with Target of Light and Dispel

Accuracy, an appropriate target and marker interaction

A

Afterglow Sword

Sniper specialization

Reliable aimed hits and a compatible setup

An A option can outperform an S choice in its specialized task. The ranking considers the usefulness of an account investment. It does not demonstrate that every Thunder Cage beats every sniper rifle against a boss.

Thunder Cage: a first completed farming tool

This is a convenient early long-term project: shooting accompanies movement, while electric effects help engage adjacent enemies. Completing such a tool is particularly useful when further account development requires many repeated operations.

The current ability is not simply an explosion after a kill. Hits inflict Quick Charge, and subsequent interactions produce Electric Shockwave, Overcharge and Thunder. An old unique-effect description is therefore insufficient for evaluating the weapon.

Assess its behavior against a surviving durable enemy as well as a visually impressive chain across a weak group. Character HP, workable reloads and reliable shooting help finish missions without interruptions. Do not invest everything in the weapon while leaving the Descendant without protection.

Enduring Legacy: a strong long-window choice

After its rework, firing accumulates Quenching. Each stack reduces Fire Rate but substantially increases Firearm ATK. Maximum stacks provide Incendiary Shot with fire effects and further interactions. This is not the old passive that can be explained with a single line about ordinary burning.

The high-priority scenario is one where continued fire realizes that buildup. Frequent mandatory movement or very short-lived targets changes the evaluation. Measure how much time you actually shoot during the fight rather than comparing a static inventory number.

Start with basic firearm damage and comfortable magazine handling. Then examine critical, elemental and speed options in the context of the current Unique Ability. One old build recipe is not a universal answer after the underlying mechanic changes.

Greg's Reversed Fate: account for follow-up hits

Greg builds Ready to Bombard through hits, then triggers Bombardment around the target. Kills from that effect grant Enhanced Bombardment. Part of the weapon's result therefore comes from something beyond its direct bullet.

A moving target may leave the relevant area. When selecting it for a boss, consider movement; when farming, consider group density and durability. A large combined effect on a stationary target does not imply identical results during a short moving engagement.

Maximum Fire Rate should not automatically be treated as the best direction after the changes. Attribute-oriented options also matter for Bombardment. Compare finished configurations on one task, changing one component first so the reason for improvement stays clear.

Secret Garden: synergy matters more than rarity color

Consider Secret Garden when your character actually uses compatible skill types. Tech skills can trigger Pest Control, while Dimension interaction involves Custom Resource. These are specific conditions rather than a bonus to every action of every character.

Check the types of the skills you really use after installing a Skill Module. Then evaluate how often the desired effect remains active during your rotation. Strong synergy can make it a useful choice for one character and a less useful first project for another.

Do not assume a buff transfers to a skill's unique weapon without checking that particular interaction. Ordinary Firearm ATK, Skill Power and special-skill parameters are not interchangeable.

Sniper options: Piercing Light and Afterglow Sword

Piercing Light creates a Target of Light at the impact point when you hit an enemy while aiming. Hit that marker with another aimed shot to deal additional damage, apply Dispel and trigger a Chain Explosion against enemies behind it. Choose a part of the target you can reliably hit again rather than switching aim randomly between parts.

Afterglow Sword uses Nightmare Reaper: aiming activates Lock-On targeting a Weak Point, while weak-point hits in that state provide Firearm ATK and Weak Point Damage bonuses. Evaluate aiming comfort, available windows and the actual number of accurate hits. There is little value in abandoning an invested option for a different name if practical execution in your fights becomes worse.

A sniper specialization does not remove the need to handle dense groups. Keep a straightforward tool for ordinary routes if single shots require repeated stops to locate every small enemy.

How to develop your chosen weapon

  1. Obtain the first copy and test comfort in the intended task.

  2. Bring its level and basic modules up to the relevant account stage.

  3. Work separately on Readjustment and additional options.

  4. Plan identical copies for Unique Ability enhancement.

  5. Calculate the finished module layout before using Catalysts and an Activator.

  6. Compare further investment with an available Transcendent alternative.

Level Transmission, Weapon Readjustment and Unique Ability enhancement solve different problems. A high level does not mean a developed unique ability, and good additional options do not automatically raise its rank. Inspect each layer separately.

After the Research overhaul, some Ultimate weapons, including Thunder Cage, Secret Garden and Enduring Legacy, use Archive Shards. Greg follows an Amorphous route. Check each current component source through Acquisition Info rather than old numbered-pattern tables.

Frequently asked questions

Which Ultimate should I develop first?

Thunder Cage is a straightforward option for clearing and farming progression. If that role is already covered, choose the weapon for your actual next task.

Does this ranking cover every weapon?

No. It is a limited investment shortlist rather than a complete catalog or absolute DPS ranking.

Are duplicate copies needed?

Identical copies develop the Unique Ability. First establish that the weapon fits your playstyle and content.

Is Ultimate the highest category?

Transcendent weapons exist separately. Compare specific options and your budget before fully investing in every Ultimate gun.
