WoT Premium Tanks Buying Guide: Credits, Crews and Playstyle
A good Premium tank is one you want to play regularly and can use productively without excessive costs. Someone else's high-income screenshot does not become guaranteed credits on your account. Compare playstyle, combat task, and net results before buying.
This overview covers Wargaming's PC World of Tanks: popular Tier VIIIs, other tiers and classes, crew preparation, questionable purchases, and ways to acquire vehicles without direct payment. Outdated ranking figures are not promises of current earnings.
Availability, price, and bundles vary by region and offer. Tankopedia confirms a vehicle's existence and characteristics rather than an open sale today. The selection uses transparent task criteria instead of claiming statistically established superiority for every candidate.
What you buy: Premium vehicles, rewards, and Premium Account
Premium vehicles improve resource earnings over researchable vehicles of the same tier and offer crew-training conveniences. However, do not assign every tank one universal “exactly plus 50%” credit coefficient. The separate WoT Premium Account adds 50% to battle credit income rather than doubling it.
Reward vehicles are another category. Object 279 early and T95/FV4201 Chieftain are not ordinary Tier VIII Premium farmers because they are rare or valuable in combat. Check each vehicle's status and economic properties. Char Futur 4 and Kampfpanzer 50 t likewise do not become standard paid purchases from this selection.
Accelerated Crew Training and Crew XP bonuses do not mean an exact one-third reduction in time to every perk. Starting crew, victories, missions, and other bonuses affect results. Premium vehicles help without being compulsory for learning or steady account progression.
Five popular Tier VIIIs and their intended players
Vehicle | Reason to consider | Cost of mistakes |
|---|---|---|
Progetto M35 mod. 46, medium | Autoreloading allows single shots or a series for flexible support | An empty magazine limits readiness for the next engagement; do not empty it in every window |
Bourrasque, medium | A two-shell magazine and mobility suit brief firing windows and changing sectors | Needs shot preparation and reload cover; thin hull protection punishes exposed trading |
Škoda T 56, heavy | A two-shell magazine helps coordinated strikes on accessible targets | Does not guarantee safe fights with Tier Xs: count reloads and check penetration areas |
Defender / Object 252U, heavy | An armored option for mastered close-range engagement | Armor is not impenetrable; lower hull, sides, angles and enemy shells matter |
LT-432, light | Combines scouting and fire for players understanding view range and concealment | Spotting without allied fire is unproductive; an early loss ends later assistance |
Bourrasque has a verified two-shell potential of 360 × 2 = 720 HP with corresponding shells. That is two nominal penetrating hits rather than one hit's alpha or guaranteed 720 HP every exposure. Realization time includes gun readiness, the target, hits, and the interval between shots.
Do not assign all five preferential matchmaking or 100,000 net credits per battle. Check each candidate's matchmaking rules. Consistent net earnings depend on useful fire and expenses rather than a tank's place in a list.
Other options by class and tier
Treat the complete selection as a map of playstyles. Compare a mastered vehicle with a related candidate instead of buying a new mechanic for a ranking position. Classification errors are particularly harmful: tier changes affect mode access, while class changes affect crew transfers.
Group | Candidates | Selection criteria |
|---|---|---|
Tier VIII heavies | Renegade, Löwe | Suitable-cover contact and fire support; compare turret angles, hull and shot handling |
Tier VII and VI heavies | Soviet Premium IS-2 VII, Tiger 131 VI, TOG II* VI | Tiger 131 is not VII; TOG requires willingness to play a slow, large vehicle rather than a novelty profit promise |
Tier VIII mediums | CS-52 LIS, Primo Victoria | Support and positional fire; check whether pace and terrain use fit you |
Tier VII and VI mediums | Panther/M10 VII, Cromwell B VI | Own-pace Panther/M10 or actively mobile Cromwell B; do not equate their economy with VIII |
Mobile Tier VIII TDs | Skorpion G, SU-130PM | Changing firing angles cautiously without relying on armor |
Other Tier VIII TDs | TS-5, Strv S1 | Consider TS-5 for contact and Strv S1 for mastered siege mechanics and distance |
Tier VII and VI TDs | SU-122-44 VII, E 25 VII, SU-100Y VI | Different guns, sizes and pace; do not assume E 25 is permanently for sale |
Tier VIII lights | EBR 75 (FL 10), ELC EVEN 90, HWK 30 | Wheeled controls, compact scouting and different fire profiles need distinct habits; HWK 30 is not VII |
Tier VI light | Type 64 | A Chinese light rather than medium, for a mastered scouting task |
Excluded example | Dreadnought KV-2 | Officially listed as VII in Modern Armor; not a Tier VI Premium heavy for this PC selection |
The “IS-2 (1945)” label needs clarification: here it means the Soviet Tier VII Premium IS-2 with Berlin themes rather than importing a researchable Chinese IS-2's properties. Exact name and nation matter more than a similar historical designation.
Crews: nation and class first
A Premium platform helps a compatible crew of the same nation and class. It does not imply unrestricted transfers across nations or qualifications. Compare additional duties and seat count too: a suitable tank may use a different crew arrangement, changing how some perks apply.
Nation | Concrete options from the selection | Important check |
|---|---|---|
U.S.S.R. | Defender/Object 252U heavy; LT-432 light | Progetto is not Soviet and does not train a Soviet medium crew under this rule |
Germany | Löwe heavy; Panther/M10 medium; Skorpion G TD | Do not transfer across three classes as if they were identical vehicles |
U.S.A. | T26E5 / Patriot heavy | T54E1 is a researchable Tier IX heavy rather than a Premium medium trainer |
China | WZ-120-1G FT TD; Type 59 medium; Type 64 light | Check class and additional qualifications |
U.K. | Caernarvon Action X heavy; Cromwell B medium | Choose the intended line and crew arrangement |
France | Bourrasque and Lorraine 40 t mediums | Both have magazines, but check combat pace and crew arrangement separately |
Italy | Progetto M35 mod. 46 medium | Autoreloading does not remove the need to check crew qualifications |
Sweden | Strv S1 TD; Primo Victoria medium | UDES 03 is a researchable Tier VIII TD rather than a purchased Premium; UDES 03 Alt 3 is a different name and vehicle |
Do not buy a second same-type Premium just for “another 50% training speed for everyone.” Select one where you can maintain useful play, then check actual Crew XP with active bonuses. No vehicle removes the need to train the relevant perks.
Questionable purchases and reasons to pass
AMX CDC's thin protection demands careful contact selection. FCM 50 t needs deliberate use of its large hull and mobility rather than play as a static armored anchor. Avoid buying either solely for a low price when its style is uncomfortable. This is a personal-fit criterion rather than a proven ban because of “the current meta.”
8,8 cm Pak 43 Jagdtiger requires patience with movement and casemate positioning. AMX M4 mle. 49 needs angle and weak-point awareness: its armor does not automatically protect every exposure. Compare these limitations with vehicles you already enjoy.
Do not exclude every Tier V Premium with one rule. They can suit collecting, familiar pace, or a compatible crew task without matching Tier VIII income. “They all regularly face Tier VII” also requires checking each vehicle's matchmaking, including possible restrictions.
Prices, offers, and purchase timing
Compare the exact vehicle and bundle contents: slot, crew, gold, Premium days, styles, and missions. A package costing 30-50% more or displaying a large discount does not establish equivalent savings on the tank you need. Separate desired items from optional extras.
Black Friday, winter offers, anniversaries, and event stores may provide purchase options, but “the anniversary is every April” is not a fixed rule: WoT's official sixteenth anniversary was in August 2026. Do not promise future sale prices or a rare vehicle's obligatory return.
Gold and money are payment methods rather than a universal value ranking. Consider existing gold, the specific offer, regional currency, and bundle contents. Rentals, when available, help test mechanics before buying without granting permanent ownership.
Evaluating net earnings
Record credited income separately from repairs, shells, used consumables, and other expenses. A vehicle-independent example: 100,000 income minus 35,000 costs equals 65,000 net. This is report arithmetic rather than a promised next-battle result.

Example of result-report arithmetic. Neither a profit forecast for a particular vehicle nor a comparison of server coefficients.
Use standard shells where they reliably perform the task. Costlier ammunition may justify a needed penetration, but every Premium shell does not impose a fixed 50-70% profit penalty.
Check consumable costs and use. Expensive food is not obligatory for every farmer, while withholding a useful repair may remove later productive shots.
Assess a series rather than the best screenshot. Compare average net earnings with time and productive-hit frequency.
Frontline uses Tier VIII in verified launches, but battle duration, repairs, and ammunition change earnings per hour. Participation depends on event availability.
A Platoon helps coordination. Separate credit bonuses follow Premium Account rules; friends do not guarantee victory or a particular amount.
Alternatives to direct purchase
The current Referral Program description lists T26E5 among Commander rewards alongside STA-2, T-54 first prototype, T92, and VK 168.01 (P). Do not substitute the styled Patriot without checking the actual list. T-50-2 is associated with account-service rewards rather than simply promised for inviting a friend.
Char Futur 4 appears in the official Battle Pass vehicle pool. Kampfpanzer 50 t is known through separate competitive routes, including published Onslaught offers, rather than a universal seasonal Battle Pass prize. Check both vehicles' current acquisition routes; reward status alone does not replace a Tier VIII Premium.
The bond Store may feature T26E5 Patriot, Guard, and AMX M4 mle. 49 Liberté. Check current price and availability in your client rather than assigning all three an unsupported identical 10,000-15,000 range. An event marathon and rental likewise grant different rights: ownership and temporary access.
If you already own the vehicle, examine its use: Marks of Excellence, WN8, win rate, and missions represent different goals. They do not automatically make every practice battle profitable. Select one task and measure its result instead of promising maximum farming alongside every statistical achievement.
Frequently asked questions
Which Premium earns the most credits?
One where you consistently contribute at sensible cost. Progetto 46, Bourrasque, and Škoda T 56 fill different roles; the whole list does not share guaranteed earnings or preferential matchmaking.
Should I buy with gold or money?
Compare actual offers for the same vehicle with the contents you need. Payment currency alone does not prove a lower final price.
Are reward tanks better than Premiums?
They have different categories and acquisition routes. Chieftain or Object 279 early can be separate combat goals without automatically replacing a Tier VIII Premium economically.
Which tier should I focus on?
VIII offers broad choice and fits verified Frontline launches. VI-VII may better suit a familiar pace and a particular crew. Define your task first.
Will buying improve my win rate?
A new mechanic may help or complicate familiar play. Learning positions, pace and shots matters more than payment itself; no win-rate increase is guaranteed.
