World of Tanks Equipment: Role-Based Setups and Compatibility

ByTimodeus

Choose World of Tanks equipment for the action a vehicle needs to perform, not just its class in isolation. One setup needs a reliable corner shot, another needs reconnaissance while preserving concealment, and another needs mobility to change firing lanes.

This guide covers Wargaming's World of Tanks for PC. The options below are starting points for testing, not an official best-build ranking. Check every item's compatibility, suitable class and resulting effect in the particular vehicle's slots.

Begin with standard equipment and a clear job. A more expensive version of a useful item can strengthen the result, but an expensive unsuitable effect will not fix a mistaken role. Pay particular attention to restrictions on autoloaders, wheeled vehicles and open-cabin vehicles.

Slot category and compatibility are separate questions

Standard equipment belongs to firepower, survivability, mobility and scouting categories. A matching specialized slot improves the corresponding item. A category mismatch is not an automatic prohibition: compatible equipment can work with its ordinary effect.

Four equipment goals: firepower, survivability, mobility and scouting

Editorial equipment-selection diagram. Check vehicle compatibility before considering a slot-category bonus.

Equipment class determines which vehicles can use it. Do not confuse this with the vehicle's combat class or the slot category. Open the mounting screen on the intended tank before buying to avoid purchasing a similarly named but unsuitable version.

Other equipment types and counterparts have their own rules. Do not assume a category bonus automatically applies to every Bounty, improved or Experimental version. Compare the resulting characteristics of the particular setup.

Which limitation are you addressing?

Problem

Candidates to compare

What to test in battle

Too few available shots during battle

Compatible Gun Rammer and gun performance

Are targets and safe firing time available?

Awkward shots after movement

Vertical Stabilizer or Improved Rotation Mechanism when available

Can you prepare the shot within the opportunity?

Mobility costs you positions

Compatible Turbocharger

Did it help you reach cover or retreat?

Difficulty performing reconnaissance

Optics, exhaust system, Commander's Vision System

Did useful information for allies improve?

Insufficient durability for the intended trade

Improved Hardening and available survivability options

Could you continue the action afterward?

Equipment does not create the opportunity itself. A rammer is unhelpful in a position without targets, and view range does not provide allied firing lanes. If the setup improves something you cannot use, change the positioning plan first.

Heavy tanks: trading or reaching a position

For close combat, consider hardening, a compatible rammer and one gun-handling item. Check what limits the ordinary trade: shot preparation, returning backward or remaining hit points.

If mobility is the decisive limitation, compare a turbocharger with the chosen third item. Do not assess it only by the opening climb: include returning, changing direction and leaving safely after a shot.

A support heavy can need a different priority from a vehicle taking the first incoming fire. Do not add hardening automatically because of the class icon if the recurring problem is making the gun work from range.

Vehicle / task

Three items

Tradeoff and replacement

Super Conqueror: positional play

Vertical Stabilizer + Gun Rammer + Turbocharger

Mobility for reaching and changing positions. If you already arrive in time, compare replacing Turbocharger with Improved Ventilation.

T110E5: regular firepower task

Vertical Stabilizer + Gun Rammer + Improved Ventilation

General improvement without a dedicated HP bonus. For demanding trades, compare Ventilation with Improved Hardening.

IS-7: close trades

Improved Hardening + Gun Rammer + Vertical Stabilizer

Health preservation and gun execution. For fast positional access, compare Hardening with Turbocharger.

Mobile heavy: traverse before a general bonus

Gun Rammer + Vertical Stabilizer + Improved Rotation Mechanism

An alternative third item for a compatible vehicle. Traverse speed does not replace driving speed.

Medium tanks: fire, information or movement

For a compatible vehicle with ordinary reloading, a starting option is a rammer, an available gun-handling improvement and a role-dependent item: optics for reconnaissance, ventilation for general improvement or a turbocharger for mobility.

The third slot begins with what the team needs from you on the selected route. If you are the only available reconnaissance source on an open lane, checking vision matters more than a small improvement to a characteristic that creates no extra shots.

Do not call every medium so versatile that one setup fits all of them. Sniper, assault and support roles require different positions, and equipment should help with that particular position.

Vehicle / task

Three items

Tradeoff and replacement

Leopard 1: fire support

Gun Rammer + Vertical Stabilizer + Improved Ventilation

A gun-focused baseline. In an open lane, compare Ventilation with Coated Optics when you need your own view range.

E 50 M: rotations

Gun Rammer + Vertical Stabilizer + Turbocharger

Trade Ventilation's general bonus for movement. If traverse is the actual problem, compare Turbocharger with Improved Rotation Mechanism.

CS-63: vision and support

Gun Rammer + Vertical Stabilizer + Coated Optics

Own view range instead of Ventilation. Rapid mode does not remove the need to prepare the shot.

CS-52 LIS: conventional gun

Gun Rammer + Vertical Stabilizer + Coated Optics

A concrete medium alternative without an autoloader. For a firepower task, compare Optics with Ventilation.

UDES 14 Alt 5: conventional gun

Gun Rammer + Improved Aiming + Coated Optics

A prepared-fire and vision option. This is not an autoloader; selecting Aiming here does not assume Stabilizer compatibility.

Light tanks: reconnaissance and preserving position

For scouting, compare Coated Optics, Low Noise Exhaust System and Commander's Vision System if available. They address different issues: your own view range, your vehicle's visibility and the conditions for detecting opponents. They are not three names for the same bonus.

Binocular Telescope requires stationary operation, so evaluate whether your route allows its condition. Constant movement and holding a vegetation position involve different compromises. Do not mount an item for an attractive number that will not apply when you need it.

A light tank assigned to fire support can need a different third item. Do not automatically transfer an ordinary setup to a wheeled vehicle: check its available equipment separately, especially mobility improvements.

Vehicle / task

Three items

Tradeoff and replacement

T-100 LT: scouting on the move

Coated Optics + Low Noise Exhaust System + Commander's Vision System

Own view range, concealment and enemy detection. This triple has no gun-stabilization bonus.

Panhard EBR 105: wheeled scouting

Coated Optics + Low Noise Exhaust System + Commander's Vision System

A usable option without an incompatible Turbocharger. Binocular Telescope is also unavailable to this wheeled vehicle.

Manticore: concealed position

Coated Optics + Low Noise Exhaust System + Commander's Vision System

View range remains available while relocating. For a planned stationary position, compare Optics with Binocular Telescope; this changes the activation conditions.

T-100 LT: firepower hybrid

Coated Optics + Vertical Stabilizer + Improved Ventilation

Firing comfort instead of Exhaust and Vision System. Choose it only while retaining a useful scouting role.

445 m is the maximum spotting distance under standard mechanics, not a guarantee of detecting every target at that distance. Additional view range beyond that value helps counter concealment. Avoid automatically removing Optics after reaching a single figure; account for opponents, vegetation and your task.

TDs and SPGs: silhouette does not establish compatibility

For a sniper TD, compare a compatible rammer with accuracy or aiming improvements and a vision tool suited to the intended distance. Consider hardening and mobility for an assault TD. Improved Rotation Mechanism can be a candidate when turning disrupts shot preparation, but it is not compulsory for every fixed cabin.

A turret does not guarantee Vertical Stabilizer availability, and lacking a turret does not mean every TD needs the same setup. Ventilation is not available on every vehicle either. Check the actual items before writing a three-item build.

For an SPG, begin with gun operation and repositioning. Compare available aiming and reload improvements against that vehicle's job. Do not copy an assault TD's equipment merely because both provide support fire.

Vehicle / task

Three items

Tradeoff and replacement

T110E4: turreted TD

Gun Rammer + Improved Ventilation + Improved Rotation Mechanism

Rotation Mechanism replaces the Stabilizer from an incorrect build. For positional access, compare Rotation Mechanism with Turbocharger.

Strv 103B: prepared sniper position

Gun Rammer + Binocular Telescope + Improved Ventilation

Binocular Telescope depends on remaining stationary. For frequent relocation, compare it with Optics, or with Turbocharger for tempo.

Object 268 Version 4: supported advance

Gun Rammer + Improved Hardening + Turbocharger

Mobility and reserves for trades. If turning is the problem, compare Turbocharger with Rotation Mechanism.

Grille 15: open cabin

Gun Rammer + Improved Aiming + Coated Optics

A concrete option without Ventilation. Aiming reduces aiming-circle size rather than substituting an aiming-speed bonus.

Conventional-loading SPG: starting example

Gun Rammer + Enhanced Gun Laying Drive + Turbocharger

For a compatible vehicle: reload, aiming and relocation. Do not transfer Hardening or Improved Aiming from a TD setup to an SPG.

Autoloaders and autoreloaders: building without a rammer

A Gun Rammer is incompatible with the autoloader and autoreloader guns described in the equipment guide. Experimental Equipment carrying that bonus does not bypass the restriction. The resulting free slot does not automatically require ventilation; the role still determines the choice.

For an autoloader, compare available stabilization or accuracy with mobility, reconnaissance or survivability. If a dangerous position prevents your firing cycle, improving one gun parameter does not create a safe retreat.

Do not conclude that every reload parameter is permanently fixed without a rammer. Other compatible systems and perks are a separate question. Compare your own vehicle and its mechanism rather than importing an ordinary-gun formula.

Three items

Tradeoff and replacement

Progetto M35 mod. 46: autoreloading medium

Vertical Stabilizer + Improved Ventilation + Coated Optics

Fire support with own view range. For rotations, compare Optics with Turbocharger.

Bourrasque: autoloading medium

Vertical Stabilizer + Improved Ventilation + Turbocharger

A tempo and burst-execution option. For scouting, compare Turbocharger with Optics.

Bat.-Châtillon 25 t: autoloading medium

Vertical Stabilizer + Improved Ventilation + Turbocharger

Reaching an attack window and withdrawing. On open lanes, Optics can replace Turbocharger or Ventilation.

AMX 50 B: autoloading heavy

Vertical Stabilizer + Improved Ventilation + Turbocharger

Positional access and firing comfort. Do not spend extra mobility on an exposure without reload cover.

Škoda T 56 / Vz. 55 with autoloader gun

Vertical Stabilizer + Improved Ventilation + Improved Hardening

For trading and preserving the vehicle between bursts. If movement matters more, compare Hardening with Turbocharger.

T57 Heavy Tank: autoloading heavy

Vertical Stabilizer + Improved Ventilation + Improved Hardening

A vehicle-preservation and firing-comfort option. Enter a trade with a plan for the whole cycle, including reload.

Standard, Bounty, improved and Experimental Equipment

Standard equipment provides a clear comparison baseline. Bounty equipment may require an upgrade, improved equipment has different acquisition and demounting rules, and Experimental Equipment combines effects. Check the actual upgrade level before comparing: similar names do not mean identical results.

Experimental Equipment has main and additional bonuses and compatibility restrictions. Do not mount a second item with a prohibited overlapping effect because its name differs. Before upgrading, decide how you will use the item and what its later transfer costs.

Improve the build of a vehicle in which you regularly execute a clear plan first. Buying a rare version for a brief trial can be expensive because of subsequent demounting. Check the confirmation cost before paying.

Crew, modifications and different maps

Assess equipment with the actual crew and consumables. If a setup only works with expensive supplies, include them in the ordinary budget. Do not present a fully prepared example's characteristics as the result with a fresh crew.

Field Modification and alternate configurations have their own availability conditions. If your vehicle supports different options, connect them to actual tasks: scouting an open lane or supporting close combat. Do not change setups solely from the map name without looking at the team and intended route.

For view range, consider the Commander's Recon and Radio Operator's Situational Awareness alongside Optics. Qualifications can be combined, so locate the perk through the actual crew member's duties. For trading consider Repairs; for firing consider Snap Shot and Smooth Ride. They neither make a Stabilizer useless nor guarantee an accurate shot.

Equipment directives strengthen a suitable item that is already mounted. Check the required item and replenishment cost. This is a final adjustment to an understood setup, rather than a way to install incompatible equipment.

Test the selected option

  1. Write down the vehicle's role and the problem to fix.

  2. Check every item's compatibility and slot category.

  3. Compare resulting characteristics with the same crew and consumables.

  4. Change one element and play an ordinary series.

  5. Evaluate the actual action: firing, reconnaissance, retreating or trading.

  6. Before another swap, calculate demounting and purchase costs.

A good setup can be explained in one sentence: which useful action became more reliable and why it helps your battles. That is more precise than promising the best equipment for everyone.

Vertical Stabilizer or Rotation Mechanism?

A Stabilizer reduces dispersion caused by movement and rotation. Rotation Mechanism combines dispersion benefits with faster hull and turret traverse. Compare them with the same crew and your usual maneuver; faster traverse does not mean a more accurate shot in every situation.

When should Optics become Turbocharger?

When the task requires movement and own view range is not what limits useful firing. Prepare an alternative configuration where available, then choose by lane and team composition. Turbocharger is not an available replacement for the EBR 105.

Are improved consumables mandatory?

No. First test the setup without expensive food, using the same crew. If you subsequently add it to improve characteristics, compare the gain with regular session expenses. Do not treat the consumable as part of equipment's free effect.
