WoW Forever Assassination Rogue Guide

Checked October 24, 2026. World of Warcraft: Forever is between tests and launch: the beta ended October 23 at 10 AM PDT, and release is scheduled for November 4. There is no playable live season to optimize today. The latest extracted beta client is 1.60.1.70532, in patch family 1.60.1; the last beta level cap was 30. Client extraction does not establish every server-side adjustment.

Use the level-30 setup below as a preparation guide to the final beta toolkit. Level 60 is announced future content. Talents, poison tuning and launch balance can still change. A guide that combines level-30 equipment with the complete level-60 poison rotation is describing two different stages of progression.

How Assassination plays

Assassination is a melee damage path built around daggers, poisoned targets and efficient finishing moves. Energy pays for attacks; builders generate Combo Points, and finishers spend them. At the last beta cap, Mutilate supplies the main builder, while Slice and Dice and Eviscerate handle most spending. Rupture is a conditional alternative against durable, armored enemies.

Its appeal is focused pressure on one target with meaningful choices about contact time, poison coverage and the next finisher. Its limitations are the need for two usable daggers, a limited Energy budget and weak access to simultaneous damage at this cap. A target that dies before your periodic damage pays off changes the correct decision.

Combat invests more heavily in weapon attacks and can build around Blade Flurry cleave. Subtlety emphasizes Stealth tricks and bleed interactions. That distinction does not make Assassination a Retail multidot specialization or establish a final level-60 ranking. In PvP, control and staying alive can matter more than maintaining an ideal damage sequence.

WoW Forever Assassination Rogue Guide

The level-30 loop uses Mutilate and useful finishers, without the future Venom capstone.

What changes in Forever

Mutilate is the 21-point Assassination milestone: 60 Energy, two Combo Points, and daggers in both hands. It attacks with both weapons and gains 20% damage against poisoned targets. Each hand can trigger applicable procs. Do not replace either dagger with a sword because an older leveling paragraph recommends a slow main hand.

Cold Blood moves to the 16-point milestone and works with Mutilate. The October 15 development notes specifically fix its consumption when Mutilate critically strikes. Malice also affects poison critical chance; Lethality supports Mutilate. Murder now applies to Humanoids and Giants, rather than all the creature types familiar from older versions.

Improved Poisons combines application chance with charge conservation. At 4/5, the client-based tree lists +8% application chance and a 40% chance not to consume a charge; at 5/5 those become +10% and 50%. Vile Poisons instead increases poison damage and resistance to dispels. These are different investments.

Seal Fate has no Cold Blood prerequisite, and a Mutilate that critically strikes with either or both hands triggers it only once. The recommended level-30 build below does not have Seal Fate. Venom is a different, 31-point talent: a poison-buff finisher, not an Envenom strike. Neither Venom maintenance nor an Envenom-based rotation belongs in this level-30 setup.

A level-30 talent setup

An ordinary level-30 character has 21 class talent points. This editorial PvE example follows the level-30 Mutilate, poison and finisher priorities; it is not a claim that every beta guide uses the same allocation. Unlisted talents receive zero points.

Talent

Points

Purpose

Malice

5/5

Attack and poison critical chance

Ruthlessness

3/3

Chance to recover a Combo Point after a finisher

Murder

2/2

Damage against Humanoids and Giants

Improved Slice and Dice

3/3

Longer useful attack-speed coverage

Relentless Strikes

1/1

Finisher-related Energy recovery

Lethality

1/5

Supports builder critical damage and reaches the next tier

Cold Blood

1/1

A planned critical attack or finisher

Improved Poisons

4/5

Application reliability and charge savings

Mutilate

1/1

The two-dagger builder

Total: 21/0/0. Spend Malice first, then Ruthlessness, Murder and Improved Slice and Dice. Add Relentless Strikes and one Lethality to reach 15 invested points, Cold Blood for point 16, four Improved Poisons, then Mutilate as point 21. This order respects the row gates.

Murder is situational when your enemies are neither Humanoids nor Giants. Short quest fights may also reduce the value of extra Slice and Dice duration. Remorseless Attacks supports repeated kills; choose a leveling variant deliberately instead of changing points without checking the next row requirement.

For a control-oriented PvP example, replace the three Improved Slice and Dice points with Improved Gouge 3/3; keep the other 18 points. It is still 21/0/0 and retains Mutilate. This exchanges sustained buff duration for a longer damage-breakable control window. Existing bleeds and poison ticks can defeat that plan. It is a legal situational example, not a measured best arena build.

Legacy points and the future cap

If all five relevant Talented ranks are unlocked through Legacy, the level-30 budget can reach 26 class points. One damage option adds Improved Eviscerate 3/3 in Combat and Opportunity 2/2 in Subtlety: 21/3/2. Another published approach invests deeper in poison talents. Do not assume a new character automatically has those extra points, and do not count Legacy points as Combo Points.

Even 26 points cannot buy the 31-point Venom milestone. A sufficiently deep alternative may start Seal Fate; that does not give the supplied cross-tree build its effects. Future level-60 poison builds can plan around Venom and Slice and Dice together, but no complete level-60 allocation is presented here as tested launch meta. Dual Specialization is announced at level 40, beyond the last beta cap.

Practical PvE priority

Before pulling, equip both daggers, train the available ranks, apply poisons and agree on any Sap target. Let the tank establish contact in a dungeon. Choose Ambush for immediate opening damage, Garrote when its bleed can run, or Cheap Shot when reducing incoming damage is worth more than the damage opener. Use only the positioning and Stealth conditions of the learned ability.

Situation

Priority

Practical decision

At three or fewer Combo Points

Mutilate when affordable

Leave room for its two points; check finisher procs afterward

Sustained contact is available

Keep Slice and Dice useful

Refresh near expiry with enough Energy reserved to avoid a gap

A physical-heavy group has a durable target

Consider Expose Armor

Coordinate the group benefit before spending your points

The target is low armor or nearly dead

Eviscerate

Prefer damage that arrives before the target dies

The target is armored and will survive the bleed

Consider Rupture

Let its duration earn back the investment

The target will die with points unused

Spend before death

Slice and Dice can help the next target; Eviscerate can finish this one

Do not cast Mutilate at four or five Combo Points simply because Energy is available. At four points, a useful finisher is often preferable to discarding part of the next builder. Do not wait for five points if doing so would lose Slice and Dice uptime, a control opportunity or all the points when the enemy dies.

Pool enough Energy for the next necessary action without sitting at the resource maximum. Watch actual finisher returns rather than assuming every spend leaves zero points. During forced movement, plan your next contact window; do not buy another damage-over-time effect on an enemy you cannot stay on or that will disappear shortly.

Poison choices and weapon assignment

Poisons are weapon coatings, not finishers. Forever allows them alongside temporary weapon enhancements; the reviewed Forever guides also describe Attack Power scaling and compatibility with Windfury Totem. Check both hands before a run, and reapply a coating before its duration or applicable charges expire.

Poison

Verified role

Level-30 use

Instant Poison

Immediate Nature damage; 20% base application chance

A simple damage coating for short encounters

Deadly Poison

30% base application chance; up to five stacks over 12 seconds

Available at 30; useful to consider on a lasting target

Crippling Poison

30% base application chance; 50% movement slow

Control runners or maintain contact in PvP

Mind-numbing Poison

20% base application chance; slower casting

A situational choice against susceptible casters

Wound Poison

Healing reduction

Starts at 32; not available in the last level-30 beta toolkit

These are base application chances before Improved Poisons or other applicable modifiers. A proc chance is not a guaranteed debuff on the first swing. Neither a fast weapon nor a poison icon proves that every attack lands or that the enemy can be poisoned.

Icy Veins recommends Instant Poison on both weapons for the level-30 stage. Use that as a straightforward short-fight starting point. For a longer, poisonable target, compare Instant in the main hand and Deadly in the off hand as an uptime-oriented alternative. This hand assignment is an editorial starting setup, not a proven universal damage winner. A faster off hand offers more swing opportunities, but actual weapon quality and successful hits still matter.

In PvP, start with damage on one hand and Crippling on the other when you need to stick to a target. Mind-numbing can replace a coating for a caster matchup. Wound is a future option after its learning level, not a current healing-reduction button. A persistent poison or bleed can break Gouge and Sap; avoid applying it to a planned control target.

An enemy immune to the relevant poison or bleed changes the plan. Check immunity messages rather than repeatedly paying for a useless effect. No complete Forever boss-immunity list or measured best MH/OH pairing is established by the reviewed guides.

Compare poisons by target lifetime, control needs and the available learning level.

Daggers, stats and upgrades

Mutilate requires two daggers. Compare both weapons' damage, speed, stats and effects, rather than treating the off hand as a disposable poison applicator. Both hands contribute to the builder. A hard-hitting dagger can support direct attacks, while a faster weapon changes coating opportunities; that tradeoff does not justify a fixed slow/fast rule regardless of the actual items.

Before Mutilate, Backstab requires a main-hand dagger and rear access; Sinister Strike is the practical builder when the positioning is unavailable. Train weapon proficiencies and develop the relevant weapon skill. Generic axe, mace or sword leveling advice is not permission to use that weapon in a Mutilate setup.

For early PvE upgrades, first maintain usable dagger damage and enough reliability to land attacks. Then compare Agility, Attack Power and critical chance in the whole item package. Agility contributes to offense and avoidance; Stamina buys survival when solo or under pressure. Hit and dodge/parry reduction are meaningful, but the required amount depends on the enemy and level difference. Do not import a raid hit cap or fixed stat weights from another version.

Forever includes haste effects and revised Weapon Expertise, which reduces dodge/parry chance. Weapon skill and Weapon Expertise are not interchangeable. The supplied 21/0/0 build has neither Combat Precision nor Weapon Expertise; naming those mechanics does not award their bonuses. No modern Mastery, Versatility or assumed Resilience gearing priority is added here.

Bleeds, target switching and multiple enemies

Garrote is an opening bleed with its own Stealth and positioning requirements, not a freely repeatable Retail maintenance button. Rupture spends Combo Points and lasts longer with more points: the extracted rank-one tooltip shows 8 to 16 seconds. Deadly Poison rank one lasts 12 seconds, stacks to five and has a three-second tick record. Those observations do not establish a complete snapshotting formula or a safe early-refresh window for every rank.

Avoid repeatedly clipping a running bleed for no practical gain. Refresh near expiry when the target will live long enough, but do not promise Pandemic carryover, automatic extension, a universal tick interval or dynamic recalculation without current Forever confirmation. The short-fight default remains immediate damage, not mandatory Rupture uptime on every target.

Changing target alone does not transfer Combo Points. Existing points can remain on the old target, but generating points on a different enemy replaces that allocation. Decide whether to finish first or accept the loss for a necessary interrupt or kill. Do not assume a modern shared pool.

At this cap, the Mutilate path has no accompanying Blade Flurry build. Focus the priority enemy, use control on another and avoid pulling more than the group can manage. Manually spreading bleeds costs Energy and points; it is a situational expenditure on durable enemies, not confirmed automatic AoE. No poison-spreading attack, bleed-spreading effect or invented target cap is recommended.

Energy, Combo Points and target lifetime determine the next useful action.

Cooldowns, PvP and race choice

Use Cold Blood for a valuable attack that will actually connect. A strong Eviscerate is a straightforward level-30 pairing; Mutilate is also supported. Do not treat Cold Blood as an unlimited crit buff or hold it through every usable damage window. There is no verified Assassination execute rule in this setup: a dying target calls for timely spending, not a borrowed execute rotation.

Keep defensive tools separate from damage spending. Evasion answers threatening physical contact, Sprint supports connection or retreat, and Vanish can reset danger or enable another Stealth action. DoTs, detection and the situation still matter; it is not guaranteed invulnerability. Carry the required reagent. Preparation is not in either supplied 21-point Mutilate example, so there is no Preparation reset sequence to follow.

In PvP, select the opening control around the enemy and the escape route. Sap can prepare an uninjured control target without breaking your Stealth. Cheap Shot and Kidney Shot create attack or retreat windows; Kick interrupts dangerous casts. Do not let poison ticks undo a Gouge you need for breathing room. Blind is learned at 34 and must not be included in a level-30 control chain.

Race recommendations depend on the activity. Current notes give Humans 2% critical chance through Ruthless, Orcs 1% through Savage and a three-minute Blood Fury cooldown, and Skyborne 3% haste. Gnome Eureka! is an eight-second Energy-cost reduction window, not an old three-charge effect. Orc Shatter Curse dispels a Curse or Bane and reduces magic damage; the outdated immunity description is not used. Dwarf Earth Fury improves critical damage and healing, not critical chance. Undead and Night Elf utility may suit particular matchups. Choose current utility and faction needs rather than declaring one race universal BiS; verify the permitted race/class combination before creating a character.

Frequently asked questions

How good is Assassination Rogue in WoW Forever?

It offers focused dagger damage and poison interactions in the last level-30 beta toolkit. Its strengths depend on staying on one target; it lacks the Combat cleave package. Final level-60 performance has not been established by the closed beta.

Which poisons should I use?

Double Instant is the simple level-30 short-fight recommendation. Consider Instant main hand and Deadly off hand on lasting poisonable targets, or a utility coating for PvP. This is situational advice, not a proved best pairing. Wound requires level 32.

Which weapons does Assassination need?

The Mutilate build needs daggers in both hands. Compare both weapons' damage and useful stats before chasing a rigid speed pairing. Non-dagger leveling advice applies to other builders, not Mutilate.

What is the basic PvE rotation?

Choose an appropriate Stealth opener, build with Mutilate at three or fewer points, keep Slice and Dice useful and spend with Eviscerate or a worthwhile Rupture. Plan Cold Blood and avoid wasting Energy or Combo Points. Venom is outside this cap's builds.
