WoW Forever Character Creation Guide

Last Updated:24 Oct 2026

In World of Warcraft: Forever, agree on your region, Ruleset and faction before choosing appearance. Those decisions determine whom you can adventure with. Then choose a class for the role you want, check its permitted races and finish the character with a two-part name. A cosmetic detail can be revisited more easily than a character created in the wrong community.

Checked October 24, 2026: the beta ended October 23 at 10 AM PDT, and launch is scheduled for November 4. There is no playable live release on the check date. The last beta cap was 30; the latest independently extracted client is 1.60.1.70532. The announced full-game cap is 60, not a claim that level-60 gameplay was available in that beta. The choices below describe the verified beta and announced launch roster. Hardcore and Skyborne SD models have separate future schedules.

Choose a Ruleset before a traditional realm

Forever replaces the usual list of named realms with regional Rulesets. Normal suits cooperative questing and optional PvP; PvP adds open-world danger in contested territory. Roleplaying is for players who want an in-character community. Blizzard's October 22 update confirms Roleplay-PvP for the November 4 launch and plans to include it in early name reservation. Hardcore is scheduled sometime after launch.

Characters in different Rulesets cannot group for dungeons or raids. Battlegrounds may include other Rulesets, while Hardcore remains separate. You cannot freely transfer between these communities: the general solution is a new character. Blizzard describes a future exception for a dead Hardcore character, which can leave for another Ruleset, including PvP. That is not a general transfer service for everyone.

Pick the same region as your friends and consider your connection quality and play hours. There is no useful launch population ranking to rely on before launch, and one regional Ruleset is not equivalent to choosing between a list of old low- and high-population realms. A language preference helps shape whom you encounter, but it does not bridge regions, factions or Rulesets. The official Preferred Online Language setting is account-wide and has a 24-hour change cooldown.

Alliance or Horde

The playable factions are Alliance and Horde. Skyborne choose an affiliation during creation; they are not a third neutral faction that can group with both sides. The Alliance High Order and Horde Windshaper choices also change which Skyborne class and faction-specific racial are available.

Horde and Alliance cannot group together in Forever. Coordinate faction with friends and the guild you hope to join rather than relying on Retail cross-faction systems. A cross-faction guild service is not confirmed here. On the PvP Ruleset, creating one faction prevents creating the other there, and balance controls may temporarily restrict creation for a faction. Normal and Roleplaying allow characters from both factions on the account, but this does not let opposite-faction characters group.

The October 22 announcement does not separately spell out every faction-lock detail for the new RP-PvP option. Check that creation screen before committing; do not assume its account restrictions from another Ruleset. No Forever faction-change service is confirmed in the reviewed material, so choose as though changing sides would require a new character.

Region, Ruleset and faction come before appearance and the complete name.

Every race and permitted class

There are nine playable races, with Skyborne represented on both factions. That produces ten faction-specific entries below, not ten different races. A class absent from a row is not a permitted combination in the current published roster. The table uses broad starting zones; it does not promise an identical first quest for every new combination.

The six additions for established races are Human Hunter, Gnome Priest, Dwarf Shaman, Orc Mage, Troll Warlock and Undead Paladin. Both factions therefore have Paladin and Shaman options. That does not make every race eligible: Tauren Paladin, Dwarf Mage, Gnome Hunter and Horde Skyborne Mage are not in this roster. Alliance Skyborne cannot choose Shaman. Skyborne have no Priest, Paladin or Warlock option in either affiliation.

Skyborne access requires an eligible Skyborne upgrade; the ordinary game does not require choosing this race. Verify the entitlement on the specific WoW account you intend to use. Do not select a different region or account merely because a race looks locked before checking that account's access.

Where the first journey begins

Humans begin in the Elwynn Forest region, Dwarves and Gnomes in Dun Morogh, and Night Elves in Teldrassil. Orcs and Trolls begin in Durotar, Tauren in Mulgore, and Undead in Tirisfal Glades. Forever beta route guides corroborate these familiar regions; this is not a claim that all their quests remain unchanged. Skyborne have a dedicated Zephras Isle introduction, described in previews as the first twelve levels.

Stormwind, Ironforge and Darnassus are useful Alliance city landmarks; Orgrimmar, Thunder Bluff and Undercity serve the Horde's familiar regions. Do not infer a direct capital teleport or a fixed Skyborne exit route from those associations. The exact first quest and trainer placement for every new race/class pairing have not all been independently verified. Follow the available opening quest and your class guidance in the actual build. No Exile's Reach or selectable Retail starting scenario is assumed.

Pick a class for the job you enjoy

Forever offers nine classes. Class identity includes future trained abilities and talent paths; it does not mean a level-1 character immediately has a complete group toolkit. Different roles also require appropriate talents, gear and practice.

Class

Roles and range

What choosing it means

Warrior

Tank or melee DPS

Weapon-focused combat and traditional tank responsibility. Solo mistakes can create recovery time.

Paladin

Tank, healer or melee DPS

Durable support and role flexibility. Managing Mana and support decisions matters.

Hunter

Ranged or melee DPS

Pet support makes solo pulls manageable. Learn pet control and avoid accidental extra pulls.

Rogue

Melee DPS

Stealth, interrupts and control. Positioning, Energy and Combo Points reward planning.

Priest

Healer or ranged DPS

Healing, shields and spell damage. Watch Mana and incoming group damage.

Shaman

Healer, melee or ranged DPS

Totems and hybrid utility. Placement and resource decisions add workload.

Mage

Ranged magic DPS

Control and group utility. Distance and safe positioning compensate for fragility.

Warlock

Ranged magic DPS

Demons, damage over time and drains. Pet and resource management add depth.

Druid

Tank, healer, melee or ranged DPS

Broad role choice and shapeshifting. Learning several forms is the tradeoff.

Shaman deserves a qualification: Blizzard describes Enhancement tools for temporary tanking in small-group play. That is narrower than promising a standard raid-tank role. Do not import dedicated Shaman, Rogue or Warlock tank systems, or Mage healing, from Season of Discovery. Hunter melee support likewise comes from Forever's class design, not an assumption that Retail's exact Survival rotation applies.

For a first solo character, Hunter is a reasonable starting recommendation because a controlled pet can take pressure off you. Warlock offers a similar attraction through demons and sustain, with more resource management. Paladin suits someone who values durability and healing options. These are reasons to try a class, not proof of one universally easiest or fastest choice.

If you are undecided between group roles, consider Druid or Paladin. Druid offers the widest range, but form and resource management take learning. Warrior tanking asks for pull planning and recovery awareness; Rogue asks for control and resource discipline; Shaman adds totem decisions. Mage can feel clear at range but punishes poor spacing. Choose the workload you want to learn, then filter races using the verified table.

Racials that matter when choosing a race

Use the October beta updates rather than an old Classic ranking. Some preview summaries still show superseded weapon specializations, Tauren hit chance or the old Gnome charge system. The following highlights are selection aids, not a complete racial encyclopedia.

·        Human: Ruthless grants 2% critical strike chance, while The Human Spirit adds Spirit. Perception helps detect Stealth, and Will to Survive removes a stun. Consider general damage and PvP utility rather than a sword-skill bonus.

·        Dwarf: Earth Fury increases critical damage and healing by 2%. Stoneform removes and temporarily protects against bleeds, poisons and diseases while reducing physical damage taken. This is useful defensive utility for several roles, not only melee.

·        Night Elf: Elune's Light provides a temporary critical-strike window. Quickness adds dodge and movement value, while Shadowmeld offers stationary concealment. Do not treat it as a Rogue's unrestricted combat reset.

·        Gnome: Eureka! is now an eight-second buff without charges; Expansive Mind increases maximum resources. Escape Artist helps with movement control. Resource comfort and utility are more useful considerations than advice about only the next three casts.

·        Orc: Savage grants 1% critical strike chance and Blood Fury boosts Attack Power and Spell Power, with a three-minute cooldown. Hardiness shortens stuns. Shatter Curse now dispels Curses and Banes and reduces magic damage taken; the old immunity description is outdated.

·        Undead: Will of the Forsaken removes Charm, Fear and Sleep. Cannibalize restores resources from eligible corpses, while Touch of the Grave supplies a passive draining effect. Think about specific control matchups and recovery, without assuming immunity to every control effect.

·        Tauren: War Stomp supplies nearby stun control and Plainsrunning supports movement. Endurance now grants 2% increased critical damage and healing in place of its old hit component. This is not a 2% hit racial to build a gearing plan around.

·        Troll: Berserking supplies an attack/casting-speed window, while Regeneration supports recovery and Beast Slaying favors beast encounters. These benefits depend on what you fight and how much downtime you incur.

·        Skyborne: Wind Blessed grants 3% haste and Elemental Insight favors elemental enemies. Walk on Air supplies a glide. High Order have Read Ley Line, while Windshapers have Skysight; those faction-specific utility choices do not erase their faction boundaries.

For melee or caster damage, compare reliable passive value with an active effect you will actually time well. Healers should check which racial benefits healing rather than assuming all damage bonuses do. Tanks may value a defensive cleanse or control tool; PvP players may prefer an answer to a frequent disabling effect. No one race is demonstrated as absolute best for every class, encounter and patch. Playing with your group and enjoying the character remain stronger first filters.

Appearance and what can change later

The beta creator supports body-type choices and race-dependent customization. The relevant categories include face, skin or fur color, hair, and applicable facial hair. Specific races also have markings, horns, tusks, jewelry or other details. Availability varies by race, body type and SD/HD presentation; an option visible on one model is not a promise for every model.

Client-based previews show examples such as Tauren horns, Troll tusks and face paint, Night Elf markings and Skyborne tattoos and feather details. Those previews include older beta data, so use them to identify the kind of choice, not to promise a final number of sliders or every Retail option. Blizzard confirms SD/HD presentation for established races, but Skyborne SD characters and druid forms are planned for early 2027. They are not a launch feature to count on.

Barbershops exist in the beta, with official notes confirming additions in Darnassus and Thunder Bluff and guard directions. They provide a route to revise appearance, including demonstrated body-type and hairstyle options. A universal fee, full option parity and every city's exact location are not confirmed here. Do not assume either Retail's free service or an old level-based gold price.

Class is the character's core choice, not an appearance setting. No reviewed Forever announcement confirms a general class, race, faction or voluntary name-change service. Treat these as decisions to settle before investing time, rather than purchases you can rely on later. Talent changes within a class are different: Blizzard describes class-trainer respecialization and Dual Specialization at level 40, beyond the last beta cap. Changing talents cannot turn one class into another.

WoW Forever Character Creation Guide

PvE, PvP and solo play emphasize different practical choices.

Choose both parts of your name

Forever names have a first and second part. The full combination must be unique in your region, so another player sharing your first name does not necessarily block your choice. Plan several complete combinations, and check them together for accidental meanings. Hiding your secondary name in the world display does not remove it from the character's identity or chat.

Blizzard's naming announcement confirms that both parts are evaluated under naming policy. Impersonation, restricted words and repeated-character patterns may be rejected, including an inappropriate word split across the fields. The reviewed Forever-specific announcement does not establish exact minimum/maximum lengths or a complete alphabet and punctuation whitelist. Use the creator's validation instead of applying another version's numeric limits. A name accepted by an unfinished beta filter is not permission to violate policy.

Early creation before launch

Eligible upgrade owners can reserve names October 27 through November 3, 2026. Europe opens October 27 at 18:00 CET, which is 20:00 Moscow. The limit is three characters total across Rulesets during that reservation window, not the announced lifetime character cap. Access applies to the specific WoW account with the qualifying purchase; desired names are first come, first served and not guaranteed.

In Battle.net, select World of Warcraft: Forever in the Game Version menu, install it and enter the reservation flow when it opens. Confirm account and region, then Ruleset, faction, class/race compatibility, appearance and the complete name. Reservation creates characters for launch; it does not reopen the closed beta for leveling. Recheck the region-specific announcement if you play outside Europe.

Before confirming, compare the character with your friends' region, Ruleset and faction one last time. Save the intended class and race combination in your plan, check that no future feature is essential to the look you want, and keep backup names ready. Start with a community and playstyle you can sustain, then optimize the smaller bonuses as the game develops.

Frequently asked questions

Which races are available in WoW Forever?

The verified roster has Human, Dwarf, Night Elf, Gnome, Orc, Tauren, Troll, Undead and Skyborne. Skyborne choose Alliance High Order or Horde Windshaper affiliation, with different Mage/Shaman availability. This is a prelaunch roster; the beta is closed on the check date.

Which classes suit beginners?

Hunter offers pet-supported solo play, Warlock offers demons and sustain, and Paladin offers durability and healing options. Druid suits someone who wants several roles and is willing to learn forms. None is universally easiest in every activity.

How important are racials during creation?

They provide meaningful damage, recovery or control utility, but their value depends on your role and activity. Use the October Forever versions and prioritize a compatible class, faction and group over an unsupported absolute best-race ranking.

Can appearance, name or faction be changed later?

Beta barbershops support appearance changes, with the exact options depending on the model. General voluntary name, race, class and faction-change services are not confirmed here. Ruleset transfers are restricted, so do not plan around being able to undo those choices freely.
