All New Dungeons in WoW Forever

WoW Forever introduces nine new dungeons spread across almost the entire level 1-60 journey.

The first instances become available before level 20, while the final dungeons are designed for characters approaching the level cap. Blizzard is using familiar locations from original Azeroth that players could previously see or hear about but never fully explore as dedicated dungeon content.

Players who want to target several of them can use WoW Forever All Dungeons.

Level Ranges for All Nine Dungeons

The currently announced level ranges are:

  • Hall of Thanes - levels 13-18;

  • Ruins of Lordaeron - levels 15-20;

  • Excavation Site: Wetlands - levels 24-29;

  • City of Dalaran - levels 28-33;

  • The Drowned City - levels 35-40;

  • Krol'dok Stronghold - levels 40-45;

  • Alcaz Prison - levels 48-53;

  • Blackmaw Hold - levels 55-60;

  • Shaper's Terrace - levels 58-60.

This gives players new group content at almost every major stage of the leveling journey.

Hall of Thanes - Levels 13-18

Hall of Thanes is located beneath Ironforge and explores ancient Dwarven halls hidden below the city.

It is one of the earliest new Forever dungeons and is primarily connected to the Alliance story. Players are called to protect ancient treasures after the halls are breached, although Horde adventurers may also have reasons to enter.

Its level 13-18 range makes it an early alternative to relying entirely on open-world questing.

Ruins of Lordaeron - Levels 15-20

Ruins of Lordaeron brings players back into the shattered former capital.

Dangerous enemies remain within the ruins, and Horde characters assist the Forsaken in reclaiming the area.

With a level range of 15-20, it can become one of the first substantial group activities for a new character.

Excavation Site: Wetlands - Levels 24-29

Excavation Site: Wetlands turns the familiar Whelgar's Excavation area into a full dungeon.

The entrance is connected to the archaeological site in the Wetlands, expanding a location that already existed in original Azeroth into new Forever content.

The dungeon is designed for characters around levels 24-29.

City of Dalaran - Levels 28-33

City of Dalaran finally allows players to enter the city during this era of Azeroth.

The protective barrier has fallen and Dalaran has been restored, but the Kirin Tor still need help dealing with magical trouble inside the city.

Its announced level range is 28-33, placing it around the transition into the middle stages of leveling.

The Drowned City - Levels 35-40

The Drowned City is an ancient troll ruin located off the coast of Stranglethorn Vale.

Blizzard has connected the dungeon with naga and pirates, giving it a very different setting from the Dwarven, Forsaken, and arcane environments found earlier in the leveling route.

The dungeon is intended for levels 35-40.

Krol'dok Stronghold - Levels 40-45

Krol'dok Stronghold is connected to the new Riverglades region.

That makes it easy to combine dungeon progression with quests and exploration in the surrounding zone. Players targeting the region can also use Riverglades Completion.

Some early materials listed a wider range, but Blizzard later clarified that Krol'dok Stronghold is intended for levels 40-45.

Alcaz Prison - Levels 48-53

Alcaz Prison turns Alcaz Island into a high-level dungeon.

The island sits northeast of Dustwallow Marsh and has long been one of original Azeroth's more mysterious locations.

Its announced range is levels 48-53.

By this point, dungeons become useful not only for experience but also for preparing gear for the final stretch toward level 60.

Blackmaw Hold - Levels 55-60

Blackmaw Hold is one of the final new dungeons on the leveling path.

Blizzard has described it as a great Furbolg city affected by disturbing corruption. The dungeon is associated with northern Azshara and is designed for characters between levels 55 and 60.

Its high level range makes it especially relevant for characters approaching the cap while looking for experience and gear upgrades.

Shaper's Terrace - Levels 58-60

Shaper's Terrace is the highest-level dungeon among the nine new additions.

It is located in Un'Goro and connects to Titan mysteries in the region. Blizzard specifically highlights Titan-related investigation as one of the new dungeon stories in Forever.

With a level range of 58-60, Shaper's Terrace naturally bridges the final leveling stages and maximum-level progression.

How Dungeons Fit Into Level 1-60 Progression

The nine dungeons are distributed across the leveling journey:

  • 13-20 - Hall of Thanes and Ruins of Lordaeron;

  • 24-33 - Excavation Site and City of Dalaran;

  • 35-45 - The Drowned City and Krol'dok Stronghold;

  • 48-53 - Alcaz Prison;

  • 55-60 - Blackmaw Hold and Shaper's Terrace.

This does not mean every dungeon is mandatory.

The most efficient route will usually combine open-world quests with group content that matches your current level and objectives.

Players who want a more direct route toward the level cap can use WoW Forever 1-60 Leveling.

Should You Complete Every Dungeon?

Not necessarily.

A dungeon is particularly valuable when:

  • it matches your current level;

  • you have related dungeon quests;

  • you need equipment upgrades;

  • it contributes to a Legacy Challenge;

  • you want an alternative to open-world questing;

  • the specific dungeon is part of another progression goal.

Once your character significantly outlevels an instance, moving on to the next zone or dungeon will usually make more sense.

Dungeon Quests

Blizzard has specifically mentioned dungeon quests as part of Forever's progression structure.

This makes the first run through an appropriate dungeon especially useful. A character can gain experience from enemies, complete several objectives, and collect quest rewards during the same run.

Before entering, it is worth checking nearby quest hubs and story chains for objectives that lead into the instance.

Dungeons and Legacy Challenges

Dungeon progression connects directly to the Legacy System.

Completing dungeons and raids is one of the categories used for Legacy Challenges, allowing regular group progression to contribute toward long-term account development.

Players targeting this system can use Legacy Challenges and Legacy Points.

Dungeon Gear and Character Progression

Dungeons are an important source of equipment while leveling.

Their value becomes especially noticeable near level 60, when characters begin preparing for later group content. Exact random drops should not be treated as guaranteed from a single run, but repeated progression can provide opportunities to replace weaker gear.

Blackmaw Hold and Shaper's Terrace are particularly relevant to the final leveling stages.

After reaching the cap, players can continue preparing through Pre-Raid Gear.

Profession Recipes From Dungeons

Dungeons are also connected to Forever's expanded profession system.

Blizzard is adding hundreds of new recipes, with some advanced blueprints tied to specific dungeon bosses.

This means certain instances can remain relevant even after they stop providing meaningful leveling experience.

Players developing crafting professions can also use Profession Leveling.

Which Dungeons Matter at Level 60?

Two of the new dungeons directly extend to the level cap:

  • Blackmaw Hold - levels 55-60;

  • Shaper's Terrace - levels 58-60.

These are the clearest options for the final part of leveling and early level 60 gearing.

Lower-level dungeons may still remain useful for Legacy Challenges, professions, quests, collections, or other specific goals.

What Comes After the Dungeons?

Once a character reaches level 60, progression begins to shift away from leveling and toward gear and endgame activities.

The next goals can include:

  • pre-raid gearing;

  • raids;

  • professions;

  • reputations;

  • PvP;

  • Legacy Challenges.

Players moving into raid progression can continue with WoW Forever All Raids, Barrow Deeps, and Hyjal Summit.
