WoW Forever Gearing Guide
In WoW Forever, improve the equipment that limits your next activity. Start with quest rewards, inspect useful dungeon drops, and compare a specific crafted or vendor alternative before committing to repeated runs. A higher item level or a purple name alone does not make an item right for your build.
Checked October 24, 2026. World of Warcraft: Forever is pre-release: the beta ended October 23 at 10:00 a.m. PDT. Its last character cap was 30, and the latest independently extracted client is 1.60.1.70532 in patch family 1.60.1. Gameplay launch is announced for November 4, with progression from level 1 to 60. There is no currently accessible live gearing season. This guide separates observed beta equipment, announced launch content and unverified endgame details.
Follow a route that fits your level
Right now, prepare a short list of useful slots and sources; you cannot return to the closed beta to farm them. When gameplay opens, take upgrades during normal progression, then spend extra time where a reward solves a clear problem. Save a larger pre-raid shopping list for the actual level-60 game and its final item data.
Source | Useful purpose | What to verify |
Quests and elite quests | Predictable reward choices while progressing. | Prerequisites, faction, required level and current reward stats. |
World drops and rares | Opportunistic upgrades along your route. | Actual Forever source and binding; a drop is not guaranteed. |
Dungeons | Weapons, missing slots and useful effects. | Current boss table, access quests and party loot rules. |
Professions and vendors | Target a specific weakness without waiting for a boss drop. | Recipe, materials, wearer requirements, binding and price. |
Reputation and PvP | Alternatives with standing or rank requirements. | Unlock cost and whether the item is useful before you outlevel it. |
Raids | Announced level-60 progression from December 9. | Final loot tables, access and reset rules when published. |
Treat leveling BiS, pre-raid BiS and raid BiS as different questions. A level-30 beta list cannot establish the best level-60 set. Some public catalogs also retain Classic source locations or computed stats where Forever data is missing. Use those as leads to verify, not as a completed shopping list.

Choose a source for a specific upgrade and separate future raids from beta evidence.
Let questing supply the first upgrades
Choose useful reward stats rather than trying to fill every slot with Rare items immediately. Before a longer elite chain, inspect its reward and prerequisites, then consider whether the route also advances your level or another goal. A modest item you can use for several levels can be worth more than a distant theoretical best item.
Forever has reworked quest rewards, dungeon items and world-drop epics, with new drops from rare creatures. That makes exploration useful, but it does not establish a guaranteed drop from every rare. Kill an accessible rare when the risk and travel make sense; avoid parking a leveling character indefinitely for an unverified spawn or percentage.
Read the latest reward card. On October 8, Blizzard lowered various dungeon quest rewards from Rare to Uncommon and changed their stats. The same update corrected The Truthseeker's Bow to require level 40. A quest appearing in a database, or being obtainable early, does not mean its reward can be equipped at level 30. These changes also mean an older screenshot can overstate an upgrade.
A vendor item or inexpensive tradeable piece can bridge a weak slot. Compare its cost with the next quest reward and the training or supplies you still need. Buy for a measurable improvement, not to replace every Common item simply because its name is white.
Choose dungeons for rewards and access
Blizzard's October 20 overview confirms nine new five-player dungeons. The ranges below are recommended content ranges, not independently established hard entry requirements for every quest and doorway. They describe the announced game; the beta is now closed.
New dungeon | Official range | Evidence status |
Hall of Thanes | 13-18 | Tested in beta. |
Ruins of Lordaeron | 15-20 | Tested in beta. |
Excavation Site | 24-29 | Tested; October 1 beta notes used 26-31. Latest overview gives 24-29. |
City of Dalaran | 28-33 | Opened for beta testing October 8. |
The Drowned City | 35-40 | Announced higher-level content. |
Krol'dok Stronghold | 40-45 | Announced higher-level content. |
Alcaz Prison | 48-53 | Announced higher-level content. |
Blackmaw Hold | 55-60 | Announced later leveling and max-level option. |
Shaper's Terrace | 58-60 | Announced max-level preparation option. |
Returning instances were tested too, including Ragefire Chasm, The Deadmines, Shadowfang Keep, Blackfathom Deeps and Gnomeregan. October beta notes also opened access to Razorfen Downs and Uldaman under test conditions. Their familiar names do not validate an old Classic loot table or an unchanged entry level.
For an example grounded in beta loot, Icy Veins' October 19 Hall of Thanes update lists Fang of Magmatus from Magmatus and Golemheart Stave from Plunder as spellcaster weapons. Fang of Magmatus is recorded as a Rare main-hand dagger, item level 18, requiring character level 13 and binding on pickup. The observed tooltip gives +4 Intellect and +18 spell damage and healing. Older extracted pages show a different physical damage profile without that spell bonus, so do not copy the old version or a displayed drop percentage as a guaranteed launch value.
Collect relevant dungeon quests before traveling. City of Dalaran has faction-specific access chains; it is not enough to see the dungeon's recommended level. Plan a run around several useful rewards, then reassess after a replacement drops. Another run is sensible if you still need something and the party wants to continue. Exact launch instance-per-hour limits and the full reset rules were not established in the checked announcements; this guide does not promise unlimited farming or impose an imported daily timer.
Use crafting to solve a specific slot
Blacksmithing supplies weapons, shields and heavy armor; Leatherworking supplies leather or mail pieces and armor kits; Tailoring supplies cloth equipment and bags. Engineering adds selected equipment and utility rather than a full armor solution. Enchanting also matters: Forever includes crafted caster weapons such as Glimmering Staff, alongside equipment enhancements.
Craft | Before paying or gathering materials |
Blacksmithing | Check the exact weapon or armor plan, armor proficiency and recipe source. |
Leatherworking | Compare the appropriate armor family and current armor-kit effect. |
Tailoring | Distinguish the recipe's binding from the finished cloth item's binding. |
Engineering | Read wearer skill requirements and the utility effect, not just the item level. |
Enchanting | Compare the new weapon or enhancement with the cost and likely replacement time. |
A recipe's required skill, a character's required level and a finished item's profession requirement are separate restrictions. A friend knowing the recipe does not remove your own wearer requirement. Binding is also item-specific: a tradeable pattern does not prove the output is tradeable, and the reverse can be true.
For example, the beta record for Pattern: Azure Stormsewn Cord requires Tailoring 50 and Friendly with Nightclaw Druids; the pattern binds on pickup. The finished Azure Stormsewn Cord is Uncommon cloth waist equipment, item level 10, requiring character level 5 and binding on equip. This is a modest illustration of the rules, not a claim that the belt is BiS or that a new character can immediately access its pattern. The tailoring overview identifies Vayn Moongaze on Zephras Isle as the relevant reputation-pattern vendor.
Some new patterns use Merchant's Favor, while others come from trainers, drops or reputation. Check the exact source before committing materials; there is no universal currency cost for all crafted gear. Published recipe pages still contain provisional or incomplete prices, so do not treat an empty or zero price field as a free purchase. A finished item's actual binding determines whether buying it from another player is an option.
Crafted tier sets appear in datamining, but recipe availability, final limits and complete bonuses are not established as playable level-60 progression. Do not budget a full crafted endgame set or assume it can bypass the raid opening. Ordinary enchants and armor kits improve qualifying items; they do not establish Retail-style upgrade tracks for every piece.

PvE, PvP and professions use different requirements and reward rules.
Check reputation before starting a long grind
Reputation can unlock a recipe rather than a finished item. The Nightclaw Druids pattern above demonstrates why you should check both standing and crafting requirements. Plan around a particular reward and how long you expect to use it. Farming an entire standing tier for an item you will soon replace can delay more useful progress.
Darkspear Raiders and Theramore Expeditionary Force have client-listed equipment tied to the Darkspear Islands sides. Records include Friendly trinkets, Honored jewelry and Exalted armor rewards, with different required levels among versions. They are not all level-30 purchases. The Watchers also has higher-level ring records; this is not an established early leveling source. Detailed vendor access, current prices and launch availability require their own confirmation rather than copying a reputation name from another version.
When a catalog offers several copies of the same name, compare the specific item ID and level requirement. Before committing to a reputation route, establish the vendor, faction, standing and the exact item you want. An item existing in client data does not by itself establish the fastest reputation method, a weekly limit or a guaranteed available reward.
Keep Honor purchases separate from PvP rank
The announced Forever PvP system has two different kinds of progress. Honor is spent on rewards. Rank Points advance your rank and have a weekly progression cap. The last beta notes increased the Honor wallet cap to 25,000; that is a storage cap, not a weekly earning limit. The checked primary overview does not give a numerical weekly Rank Point cap, so none is invented here.
Honor buys Rare PvP gear. Epic armor upgrades require the corresponding Rare piece and an Emboldened Seal with the appropriate rank requirement. The announced reward ladder includes the following goals.
Rank | Equipment reward milestone |
2 | PvP trinket. |
3-4 | Cloaks, then necklace. |
8-10 | Epic wrist/belt, boots and gloves upgrade tokens. |
12-13 | Epic legs/shoulders, then chest/helm upgrade tokens. |
14 | Epic weapons. |
This is an announced progression path, not a current live season or a promise that every reward is wearable at the beta cap. PvP vendor purchases must still satisfy the actual level, rank and cost shown. Holiday battlegrounds can help acquisition when active; the current closure means there is no live holiday farming opportunity to recommend. Do not import Conquest or a Retail PvP item-level scaling rule.
A PvP item can be useful in PvE if its actual offensive or defensive stats fit the job. Compare it with an obtainable alternative and the time spent earning it. It is not automatically better because it is Epic, and the source of an item alone does not determine its PvE value.
Compare stats and weapons before item level
Item level describes an item's power budget; required level tells you when it can be worn. Quality and eligibility are separate again. The checked item records use Common, Uncommon, Rare and Epic categories. The final beta celebration also handed out unusual rewards, including legendary equipment reported by players; Blizzard explicitly warned that celebration items and experiences were not representative of the launch game. This is not a normal legendary gearing route.
Forever combines spell, melee and ranged Hit, and likewise combines their critical-strike categories. That does not make the amount of Hit needed identical for every attack or target. Weapon skill remains relevant, while some items reduce the chance of attacks being dodged or parried. Spellcaster weapons now supply spell damage and healing; bonus healing also contributes one third as much bonus damage under the announced itemization model. Use the bonuses already shown on the Forever tooltip; do not add the healing-to-damage conversion a second time. Check your actual abilities before copying old stat weights.
For weapon-dependent melee builds, compare usable weapon type, damage, speed, skill and the attacks you perform. A slow main hand or dual-wield setup is a build decision, not a universal gearing rule for every class. Hunters must distinguish their ranged damage weapon from melee equipment and account for their selected build. A caster should compare spell bonuses and the combined value of a one-handed weapon plus off-hand against a staff, rather than choosing by physical weapon DPS.
Armor proficiency, survival and role also matter. A healer losing useful recovery or a tank losing important durability may not benefit from a nominal item-level increase. Keep a useful situational effect or set piece until you have compared the whole replacement. Do not assume a piece scales automatically with your character, or turn Haste, Hit or Crit into borrowed Retail rating targets. There is no verified universal upgrade-track ladder in the checked Forever gearing information.

Compare weapon function, weak slots, key stats and effects before spending.
Prepare for raids after reaching level 60
Blizzard's October 20 raid overview schedules three level-60 raids for December 9. These are future sources, opening after the November gameplay launch.
Raid | Announced size | Confirmed preparation point |
The Barrow Deeps | 10 players | Eight bosses; several connected entrances. |
Hyjal Summit | 20 players | Thirteen bosses; routes open after the initial encounter. |
Onyxia's Lair | 40 players | Each player must carry the Drakefire Amulet earned through their faction's chain. |
The named raids are not difficulty tiers. The checked announcement does not establish a Raid Finder/Normal/Heroic/Mythic reward ladder, final item-level table or reset schedule. Tier progression is discussed in developer previews, but complete final tier acquisition and loot eligibility need release evidence. Keep final raid BiS claims, legendary acquisition assumptions and Classic Onyxia item tables out of a current shopping list.
Before the raids open, replace clearly weak slots through available quests, suitable dungeons, affordable crafted items and verified alternatives. Prepare your role, repairs, supplies and required access. Blackmaw Hold and Shaper's Terrace are announced later-game options; their exact final pre-raid ranking is not established by their level ranges alone. No verified launch world-boss roster, event loot schedule or full eligibility table was found to justify adding another compulsory farm to this route.
Agree on loot and support alts carefully
Beta player reports document Need rolls in dungeon groups, and the current client contains a Master Loot method label. Neither evidence item establishes every final launch setting or a universal Personal Loot system. Check the actual group method and any reserved items before the first pull. Agree whether off-role equipment is being contested, and use Need for the agreed purpose rather than assuming that being able to equip something settles ownership.
Appearance collection is a separate benefit. Blizzard says eligible dungeon looters receive the appearance when a bind-on-pickup Uncommon or Rare item is looted; this does not give everyone a physical copy of the gear. Epic raid appearances are granted to the player the item binds to. There is therefore no need to compete for an ordinary qualifying dungeon item purely for its appearance.
A bind-on-pickup item is not an ordinary Auction House or alt-mail purchase. An unbound bind-on-equip item may be tradeable until equipped, subject to its exact restrictions. Do not assume a universal post-loot trading window. The October 1 notes also changed an uncollected-appearance BoE item's vendor handling to soulbound instead of account-bound; selling an item is not a reliable way to turn it into alt equipment.
For alts, plan legitimate support through tradeable materials, suitable crafted items and unbound gear where mail and faction/ruleset restrictions permit. Legacy's account progression and appearance collection do not establish a Warband bank or blanket account-wide equipment sharing. A beta tooltip mentioning Warbound equipment is insufficient to promise a complete live catch-up system.
Set a gold ceiling for each purchase, protect your training and consumable budget, and reassess a farm after an upgrade. Check the final patch notes and item tooltip when gameplay opens. The useful route is quests, targeted dungeon runs, affordable alternatives and preparation for the announced raids, with each step justified by the item you actually need.
Frequently asked questions
Where should I get gear in WoW Forever?
At launch, start with useful quest rewards and drops along your leveling route, then target dungeon or crafted upgrades for weak slots. Reputation and PvP are alternatives when their requirements fit your goals. As of October 24 the beta is closed, and the first announced raids open December 9.
Is farming dungeons worthwhile for equipment?
Yes, when a current Forever loot table shows useful rewards and the travel, access and party time are reasonable. Take relevant quests and consider several possible upgrades. Repeating runs for a tiny improvement can be worse than continuing to level; an old Classic loot table is not enough evidence.
How useful is crafted gear?
It can fill a weak slot predictably if the recipe, materials and wearer requirements are accessible. Check the finished item's binding before buying or asking another crafter. Do not assume every crafted item is tradeable, BiS or part of a finalized level-60 tier system.
Is item level more important than stats?
Compare stats, weapon function, role and useful effects before accepting an item-level increase. Item level and required character level are different values. A higher-level item with unsuitable stats or restrictions can be a worse choice than your existing equipment.
