What Is the Legacy System in WoW Forever?
The Legacy System is one of WoW Forever's core forms of long-term progression. It is designed primarily for players who enjoy leveling multiple characters and want each new 1-60 journey to contribute toward broader progress.
Players complete Legacy Challenges, earn Legacy Points, and spend those points in character-specific Legacy Trees. Earned points are shared across alts, while each character chooses how to spend them independently.
Players planning several characters can combine this progression with WoW Forever 1-60 Leveling.
How to Earn Legacy Points
Legacy Points are earned by completing Legacy Challenges.
Blizzard has shown examples such as leveling specific classes and reaching profession skill milestones.
The wider challenge system can include:
exploration;
leveling classes;
increasing profession skills;
earning PvP ranks;
maximizing reputations;
completing dungeons;
completing raids.
Legacy progression therefore works alongside normal gameplay rather than functioning as an entirely separate activity.
What Are Legacy Challenges?
Legacy Challenges are progression objectives that reward Legacy Points.
They are designed to complement the activities players already complete throughout Azeroth. Some focus on leveling different classes, while others involve professions, reputations, PvP, exploration, dungeons, or raids.
This gives alt-focused players a reason to try different character paths instead of simply repeating the same leveling route.
Legacy Points Are Shared Across Alts
Earned Legacy Points are shared across your alternate characters.
However, every character spends the available points independently in their own trees.
A gathering character can invest heavily into profession bonuses, while another alt might prioritize leveling or general utility. This allows the same account-wide progression to support different character builds.
The Three Legacy Trees
WoW Forever begins with three Legacy Trees:
Professions;
Adventure;
Resourcefulness.
Each tree focuses on a different part of the leveling journey.
Professions
The Professions tree supports crafting and gathering.
One revealed perk increases the amount of materials gathered through Mining, Herbalism, and Skinning.
Players developing trade skills can also use Profession Leveling.
Adventure
Adventure focuses more heavily on character progression.
One of the revealed perks increases the rate at which rested experience accumulates and raises the rested experience cap, making it particularly useful for players rotating between multiple alts.
Resourcefulness
Resourcefulness provides practical utility.
Blizzard has shown perks that can remove reagent requirements from certain class abilities, while other Legacy bonuses can affect reputation gains, Honor, durability loss, and additional parts of everyday gameplay.
Because characters have a limited number of points to spend, selecting the right bonuses becomes an important part of each build.
How Many Legacy Points Can You Earn?
At launch, players can earn up to 65 Legacy Points.
However, each individual character can initially spend only 16 points in its Legacy Trees.
This difference is intentional. Blizzard does not want players to feel that completing every available challenge is mandatory for maximum character power, while the spending cap also helps reduce the gap between established and newer players.
The main goal is therefore to choose the most useful 16 points for each character rather than simply collecting every possible point immediately.
What Happens After the Spending Cap?
Additional Legacy Points still matter after your character has reached the spending limit.
Total earned progress contributes to the Legacy Reward Track, which unlocks cosmetic and prestige rewards without providing a direct competitive advantage.
Revealed examples include the Spectral Bear Cub, a Spectral Bear mount, a tabard, toys, and other collectibles.
This gives completion-focused players a reason to continue working through challenges after creating their preferred Legacy Tree setup.
Why Legacy Matters for Alts
Legacy is built around repeated journeys through Azeroth.
A typical progression loop can look like this:
level your first character;
complete available Legacy Challenges;
earn Legacy Points;
create another character;
spend your existing points differently on that alt;
complete new challenges with another class or profession;
continue increasing overall Legacy progression.
Blizzard developed the system partly around the energy created by repeated leveling journeys, giving players additional reasons to start new characters without requiring Hardcore rules.
Legacy and Professions
Professions are directly connected to Legacy progression.
Profession skill milestones can become Legacy Challenges, while the Professions tree provides additional bonuses for crafting and gathering gameplay.
Leveling Blacksmithing, Alchemy, Herbalism, Mining, or another profession can therefore contribute to both individual character development and broader Legacy progression.
Reputation and PvP Legacy Challenges
The system is not limited to leveling and professions.
Legacy Challenges can also involve maximizing reputations and earning PvP ranks.
Players focused on these areas can use Reputation Boost or PvP Rank while progressing toward related Legacy goals.
Dungeons and Raids in Legacy Progression
Group content is another part of the challenge structure.
Completing dungeons and raids can contribute to Legacy Challenges, allowing characters to continue earning progress after much of their leveling journey is complete.
This makes Legacy a system that connects early leveling, professions, exploration, PvP, reputations, and endgame group content.
How Legacy Works in Hardcore
Hardcore uses additional Legacy restrictions.
Progress from regular rulesets does not flow into Hardcore. However, progress, collections, and rewards earned inside Hardcore can become available in other rulesets.
This prevents a new Hardcore character from entering the one-life environment with advantages accumulated through normal play.
Blizzard also plans to expand Legacy specifically for Hardcore, including additional progression options and a dedicated tree.

Will the Legacy System Expand?
Yes.
Blizzard has described Legacy as a system designed to grow alongside WoW Forever.
Future updates can introduce:
additional challenges;
new perks;
more ways to spend points;
higher spending caps;
new columns within existing trees;
potentially entirely new Legacy Trees.
The launch version with three trees, 16 spendable points, and up to 65 earnable points is therefore only the starting framework.
What Should You Focus on First?
There is little reason to rush every Legacy Challenge immediately.
A more practical approach is to choose which characters and professions you actually want to develop and complete objectives that naturally align with those plans.
A gathering character may benefit more from profession-focused perks, while an alt leveled gradually can gain greater value from rested-experience bonuses.
Once the preferred 16-point setup is available, further challenges can be completed for the Reward Track and broader account progression.
Players who want to target individual parts of the system can use Legacy Points, Legacy Challenges, and the Legacy Reward Track.
