WoW Forever Legacy System: Points, Perks and Rewards

Legacy gives exploration, professions and character progression a lasting purpose in WoW Forever. Completing a challenge unlocks a point for your account. Each eligible character then chooses how to use the unlocked points, while a separate collection track rewards the total you have earned.

The first practical goal is a useful allocation for the character you are playing, rather than completing every challenge immediately. At launch, each character can spend up to 16 points even though the announced challenge catalog contains 65. More points can advance collection rewards without adding another immediately spendable talent point.

This guide was checked on October 18, 2026. It uses Blizzard's current system explanation and beta notes, with independent guides for tree details and reward thresholds. Beta grants, temporary reset prices and proposed future additions are identified separately from launch rules.

How to unlock Legacy

The system opens when you earn your first Legacy Point. Reaching level 25 on your first class is the likely route for many players. Other announced routes include reaching 150 skill in a non-gathering primary profession or exploring the entire world map. Level 25 is therefore a common milestone, not an absolute minimum character level for every possible unlock.

Once unlocked, use the shield-shaped Legacy menu icon or the default Y shortcut. Check your key bindings if that shortcut opens something else. The relevant interface shows challenges, available points and the choices for your current character.

The beta is a special case. On October 8 Blizzard granted testers a challenge completion worth 16 points so they could test the trees. Seeing 16 points on a beta character does not prove that ordinary launch characters start with a free allocation.

Four steps from the first challenge to an individual Legacy allocation

Shared points, individual choices and the spending cap

Account-wide progress does not mean every character must use the same perks. If your non-Hardcore account has unlocked 16 points, a gathering character and a questing character can each allocate those 16 independently. Spending on one does not take points away from the other.

A class milestone is earned once for that class on the account. Leveling a second character of the same class does not repeat the same reward. The same principle applies to an already completed profession milestone: changing characters does not turn it into an unlimited source of points.

The launch spending limit is 16 per character, not 16 earned points for the entire account. Blizzard says one character can earn up to 29 through its class, two current primary professions and other activities. Multiple characters can broaden the available challenges, but they are not required to reach the launch allocation limit.

That distinction matters when choosing your next objective. A player with 16 earned points might prefer improving equipment or finishing a quest chain over leveling another class solely for a seventeenth point. A collector working toward the next reward threshold has a different reason to continue.

The six challenge categories

Each completed challenge awards one Legacy Point. The announced initial catalog divides its 65 points as follows:

Category

Points

Main requirements

Classes

27

Reach levels 25, 45 and 60 on each of the nine classes.

Tradeskills

18

Reach 150, 225 and 300 in each of six non-gathering primary professions.

Player vs. Player

12

Five rank milestones, four battleground reputations and three Field of Honor milestones.

Adventure

2

Explore the world on one character; complete the Lord Valthalak dungeon-set questline.

Dungeons

3

Defeat the final bosses across each required dungeon group.

Raids

3

Defeat Onyxia; complete Hyjal Summit; complete Barrow Deeps.

The six profession paths are Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Engineering, Leatherworking and Tailoring. Mining, Herbalism and Skinning do not supply these milestone points. Cooking, Fishing and First Aid are also outside this challenge category, although several Legacy perks help those skills.

PvP rank points come at ranks 3, 7, 10, 13 and 14. Four further points are associated with Exalted battleground reputations, and Field of Honor contributes milestones at weeks 4, 7 and 10. These are separate objectives; earning Honor is not the same thing as immediately receiving a Legacy Point.

Dungeon and raid completion needs the full objective

The three dungeon challenges cover level bands 15-25, 26-45 and 46-60. Each requires the relevant set of final bosses, not simply one dungeon in that bracket. Inspect the in-game checklist, including required wings, before organizing a completion run.

For raids, Blizzard specifies Onyxia, all 13 Hyjal Summit bosses and all 8 Barrow Deeps bosses. The two new raids are separate challenges. Entering an instance, killing one encounter or joining a partially cleared group does not by itself satisfy a full-clear objective.

Three perk trees and how to choose between them

Legacy allocations are separate from ordinary class talent points. The three trees serve different activities, and deeper choices can require points in that tree or a prerequisite talent. Evaluate the complete route to a perk rather than judging its final point in isolation.

Professions

Working Overtime improves the chance to gain skill through tradeskills, while Bountiful Harvest increases Scarce materials from gathering. The latter is not a blanket multiplier for every basic herb, ore or skin. Bartering reduces vendor item prices; an October 15 beta fix removes its unintended discount on training and repairs.

Performance Bonus can increase Merchant's Favor from supply-crate turn-ins. Master Chef and Luremaster can produce extra cooking results and fish. The same October update clarifies that those two perks are available after five committed points, despite older diagrams placing them farther down the tree.

Dedicated Study helps your lowest eligible tradeskill. When both current primary professions and all three secondary professions reach 300, its alternative reward is Elemental Essences. It has its own cooldown, rather than allowing unlimited skill increases whenever points are available.

Adventure

Well Rested improves rested experience accumulation and capacity. Thrill of Adventure restores health and mana after eligible killing blows, but does not work in dungeons, raids or battlegrounds. High Alert improves stealth detection outside battlegrounds.

Talented makes ordinary class talent points available earlier, up to five levels earlier with full investment. It does not raise the eventual total above 51. This can matter during leveling, so describing Legacy as having absolutely no effect on combat circumstances would be misleading; it is not a new pool of extra level-60 class talent points.

Field Guide reduces the cooldown on adding camp features. Field Medicine shortens Recently Bandaged outside dungeons, raids and battlegrounds. Frequent Flier improves the cost and speed of flight paths. A character spending most of its time questing may value these differently from one running instances.

Resourcefulness

Gourmand extends food benefits, Permanence extends relevant party, raid and camp benefits, and The Quick and the Dead helps with corpse travel and recovery after resurrection. Reinforce reduces durability loss on death. These conveniences should be assessed against how the character actually spends time.

Diplomat improves reputation gains, while For Great Honor improves Honor gains. Neither means that an arbitrary action suddenly awards reputation or a PvP rank. Reagent Economy removes eligible vendor-bought reagents from class abilities and material costs from tier-one camp features. It does not remove every class resource: Soul Shards are not covered by the vendor-reagent rule.

Rewards use total points earned

The collection track counts accumulated Legacy Points independently of your talent allocation. Spending points on perks does not make the corresponding reward milestone farther away.

Blizzard confirms the four launch rewards; independent beta guides give the thresholds above. Item display names may vary, including a holstered version of the rifle. Check the reward interface before planning around a specific item entry.

The reward claim method is less consistent across guides. A current guide directs players to Innkeeper Wiley in Ratchet, while an older one does not establish a location and speculates about mail. Use the current client instructions rather than assuming that a reward will automatically arrive in your mailbox.

Weekly timing, resets and Hardcore

Legacy Points, Honor, Rank Points and Merchant's Favor are different forms of progress or reward. A perk may affect another system without converting its currency into Legacy Points. Supply crates, for example, do not become a repeatable Legacy-point purchase simply because a perk improves their return.

The announced system has no general weekly Legacy-point allowance specified in the checked material. Its constraints instead include one-time challenges, the available catalog and the per-character spending limit. Individual activities can still have schedules or cooldowns: PvP ranks are capped weekly, Field of Honor unfolds through weekly objectives, and Dedicated Study has its own timer.

Blizzard says the seasonal tasks connected to Legacy remain available to complete in future seasons. That protects access to those objectives; it does not establish that the same already completed challenge can be farmed again every season. Nor does a PvP season change mean the entire Legacy account record resets weekly.

Resetting an allocation is not erasing earned progress

Beta guides describe resetting the selected perks at a class trainer. The October 8 official notes supersede the older quoted 10-gold beta price: the lowest reset cost is now 1 silver, with the reset-cost history reducing by one reset per hour. Blizzard explicitly marks this treatment as beta-only. A fixed launch fee and its final scaling are not established here.

Do not assume that beta-granted points, completed test challenges or saved allocations will carry into the live game. The checked sources do not confirm that transfer. Likewise, future increases to spending limits, new trees and additional rewards are plans rather than a dated guarantee of particular bonuses.

Hardcore has a separate direction of credit

Hardcore is not planned for the initial launch. When introduced, it will not import Legacy challenges earned in non-Hardcore rulesets. Challenges earned in Hardcore will also grant credit in the other rulesets. This is one-way challenge credit, not a promise that a character's selected build is copied automatically.

Because ordinary PvP Legacy challenges cannot be completed in Hardcore, Blizzard plans 12 Hardcore-specific challenges for its launch. Exact future objectives and rewards should be checked when that ruleset becomes available.

A practical first allocation

Start with the activity you intend to repeat over the next few sessions. For outdoor questing, compare downtime reduction with rested-experience benefits and earlier talents. For gathering, check whether the materials you want actually fall under Scarce resources. For reputation or Honor, assess how much relevant activity you will do before paying to change the allocation again.

Then inspect prerequisites and count the whole route. A deep talent can consume much more of the 16-point budget than its own rank suggests. Keep the last available point flexible in your planning until you have verified the current tree rather than importing an outdated diagram.

Choose the next challenge because it fits your play, not because another character is supposedly mandatory. A reachable class or profession milestone is useful progress; a long detour to complete a category you dislike may contribute less to your next session than improving the character already in front of you.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need alternate characters?

No. Blizzard says the launch spending cap can be reached on one character. Different classes and professions expand the challenge catalog available to a collector.

Can I earn the same class point again on another race?

Not by repeating an already completed class milestone. Changing race or character does not make the same account challenge new.

Do points spent on one character disappear for the others?

No. Each eligible character allocates the account's unlocked points independently, subject to its spending cap and the Hardcore exception.

Must I choose between perks and the spectral bear?

No. Perks use your allocation, while the collection track follows the total points earned. The mount threshold is a longer-term goal, not a reason to leave useful talent points unspent.
