WoW Forever Mounts Guide
World of Warcraft: Forever puts most of the first mount's gold cost into riding training and grants a mount when you learn the skill. Plan around the beta's level-40 first tier and level-60 fast tier, but keep those client requirements separate from a final launch test. There is no flying. For most characters, saving for training is more useful than collecting extra colors before the first ride.
Current status and what is available now
Checked October 24, 2026: the beta ended October 23 at 10 AM PDT. Its last ordinary level cap was 30. The latest extracted client checked is 1.60.1.70532, in patch family 1.60.1; this is a pre-release reference, not a complete server hotfix log or a certified launch build. Gameplay launches November 4, with progression from level 1 to 60.
Available now
Normal beta gameplay is closed, so there is no current mount farm to enter. Before it closed, the ordinary cap was below the first racial mount requirements. Final-day celebration items and temporary exceptions do not establish normal riding access or a permanent reward. You can plan your trainer visit and budget; an upgrade-pack entitlement is separate from being able to ride in the released game.
Confirmed later and beta requirements
Blizzard confirms ground travel, the training-based cost model and account-wide Collections with a Hardcore exception. Beta records place ordinary mounts at level 40 and fast mounts at 60. Special level-60 rewards remain future use, even when their source is announced. Unknown acquisition methods and final vendor settings should be checked again after release.
Riding ranks and the first purchase
There are two relevant ground-riding ranks in the Forever data. Apprentice Riding supplies skill 75; Journeyman Riding supplies 150. These are purchased skill ranks, not a profession you improve by riding laps. Racial riding permissions, such as Galestrider Riding, are an additional requirement on relevant mounts.
Riding tier | Beta requirement and speed | Reported base training price |
Apprentice Riding | Level 40; skill 75; +60% ground speed | 100 gold; a first mount included |
Journeyman Riding | Level 60; skill 150; +100% ground speed | 1,000 gold; a first mount included |
The prices come from developer Kris Zierhut's interview, corroborated by specialist reporting. The levels and riding ranks come from pre-release records. They are a planning baseline, not proof that a level-30 tester completed the normal purchase. Do not split the first tier into an assumed 80-gold lesson plus a mandatory 20-gold animal.
Additional standard colors have beta item prices of 20 gold for the ordinary tier and 200 gold for fast versions, before discounts. Those are extra purchases after the included mount, not an automatic surcharge on training. A generic item buy-price field also does not prove that a quest, Legacy or promotional mount is sold by an ordinary vendor.

Separate level requirements, training and optional purchases.
Where to learn and find racial mounts
Start with the trainer and mount family of your own race. The table follows Forever-specific location reporting; it is a practical destination list, not a guarantee that every old stock entry, coordinate or quest will remain unchanged at launch. In the middle column, the trainer is listed first and the mount seller second.
Race and mount family | Trainer / seller | Destination |
Human - horses | Randal Hunter / Katie Hunter | Eastvale Logging Camp, Elwynn Forest |
Dwarf - rams | Ultham Ironhorn / Veron Amberstill | Amberstill Ranch, Dun Morogh |
Gnome - mechanostriders | Binjy Featherwhistle / Milli Featherwhistle | Steelgrill's Depot, Dun Morogh |
Night Elf - sabers | Jartsam / Lelanai | Cenarion Enclave, Darnassus |
Orc - wolves | Kildar / Ogunaro Wolfrunner | Valley of Honor, Orgrimmar |
Troll - raptors | Xar'Ti / Zjolnir | Sen'jin Village, Durotar |
Tauren - kodos | Kar Stormsinger / Harb Clawhoof | Bloodhoof Village, Mulgore |
Undead - skeletal horses | Velma Warnam / Zachariah Post | Brill, Tirisfal Glades |
Skyborne - Galestriders | Genn Fairweather, both services | Fairweather Stables, Zephras Isle |
Skyborne of either faction use Genn Fairweather. Empyrean, Stormy and Umber Galestriders have recorded vendor sources; their Swift counterparts are the fast variants. Regal and Swift Regal exist in the catalog, but the current collection guide still marks their sources unknown. Do not assume every displayed color is already on the same vendor.
For a Human wanting the Black Stallion, Method identifies Unger Statforth in Menethil Harbor as a separate seller. That trip does not replace the riding lesson in Elwynn. For a first purchase, taking an available home-race color avoids an unnecessary detour.
Other races and faction limits
Forever-specific guidance reports Exalted reputation with another race's home faction for its racial mounts. The usual faction associations are horses with Stormwind, rams with Ironforge, sabers with Darnassus, mechanostriders with Gnomeregan Exiles, wolves with Orgrimmar, raptors with Darkspear Trolls, kodos with Thunder Bluff and skeletal horses with Undercity. Reaching that standing is a collection goal; it is not normally necessary for your own race's first mount.
Exalted is not permission to buy every opposing-faction racial mount. Check the item's faction and racial riding permission as well as reputation. Galestrider records use a separate permission, and a complete final rule for every non-Skyborne combination is not established. Do not promise universal access from one reputation grind.
Exceptions have specific sources. Pack Kodo has Alliance and Horde acquisition routes, so an Alliance character can pursue that particular kodo. It does not unlock the ordinary Horde kodo vendor roster for the Alliance. Account-wide collection also does not erase a mount's faction or class conditions.
Prices discounts and saving gold
Budget 100 gold for the first training tier and another 1,000 for fast training at base interview prices. The combined training plan is 1,100 gold before reductions. Keep a separate reserve for abilities, repairs, bags and travel rather than spending every coin on extra colors.
Method reports a 10% home-faction Honored discount on training and racial mounts. That would make a 100-gold lesson 90 gold and a 1,000-gold lesson 900, if the trainer applies that discount at release. Check the actual quote before purchasing; do not treat a discounted example as the universal base price.
The Legacy perk Bartering reduces vendor item gold prices by up to 10%. Its wording concerns items, and the specialist guide excludes riding training. Do not subtract it from the main lesson budget or assume it reduces a special currency cost. Exact discount stacking should be confirmed on the purchase screen rather than turned into a guaranteed cheapest-price formula.
While leveling, keep useful quest income, sell unwanted tradeable items legitimately and compare material prices before filling supply crates. There is no reliable universal gold-per-hour promise or requirement to buy gold. Avoid delaying the first useful ride to finance a cosmetic reputation project.
Reputation and special rewards
These examples explain different acquisition systems. All requirements below are pre-release evidence; none is a currently open farm during beta closure.
Mount or source | Acquisition | Important limit |
Pack Kodo | 6,000 Merchant's Favor; Exalted with your supply faction | Level 60 and Journeyman Riding in beta records |
Spectral Bear | Legacy reward at 55 earned Legacy Points | Level 60 and Riding 150; not 55 points spent |
PvP mounts | Rank 11 unlock announced by Blizzard | Full final vendor costs and individual models need verification |
Paladin and Warlock mounts | Class-specific quest progression | Class eligibility; epic quests have their own costs |
Upgrade-pack mounts | Entitlement from the appropriate pack | Riding still purchased in game; item requirements apply |
Pack Kodo
Alliance players use Huey Sunnydale at the Azeroth Commerce Authority camp at Three Corners in Redridge Mountains. Horde players use Okamache at the Durotar Supply and Logistics camp west of the Crossroads in the Barrens. The beta route requires Exalted with the relevant supply organization, 6,000 Merchant's Favor, level 60 and Journeyman Riding. A zero shown in a summary's currency field is not evidence that the mount is free.
Filled Waylaid Crates provide Merchant's Favor; the profession guide distinguishes that currency from reputation earned through Craftsman's Writs. Plan both requirements and account for material costs. The currency is per character in that beta guide. Do not assume a pack animal supplies repairs, a mailbox or extra inventory: those gameplay services are not confirmed by its cargo model.
Spectral Bear
Blizzard confirms Reins of the Spectral Bear as a Legacy reward. The current collection guide and client reward record place it at 55 earned points; the record directs eligible players to Innkeeper Wiley in Ratchet. Its level-60 riding requirements remain separate from unlocking the reward track.
The launch limit of 16 applies to points spent on perks per character. It does not reduce the mount threshold to 16. Blizzard lists at most 29 launch points obtainable on one character, so 55 cannot be reached on a single character under that published structure. This is a long-term collection project across characters, not a first-mount shortcut.

Vendor, reputation and special rewards have different gates.
PvP class and promotional mounts
Blizzard places PvP mount rewards at rank 11. Rank Points advance your rank; Honor is a separate purchase currency. The announcement does not supply a complete mount price list, vendor roster or speed table. Do not import historical rank discounts or claim that a fixed gold sum automatically buys every Black War mount. Check the rank, faction, currency and riding requirement of the exact reward once its vendor is available.
Paladin and Warlock class mounts have quest routes rather than the ordinary racial purchase. Forever guides place the earlier mounts at 40 and epic versions at 60. The Forsaken Paladin questline and Forsaken Charger are documented additions. They were not normally testable through level 60 at the beta cap, so a copied Classic reagent checklist is not a final Forever walkthrough. The epic class quest can involve substantial costs; “class mount” does not mean every stage is free.
Cerulean Prideclaw comes with the Skyborne Heroic Pack and higher qualifying packs. Veteran Adventurer's Loyal Companion belongs to the Skyborne Epic Pack and Warcraft Forever Collection. Buying either entitlement does not buy riding training. The current Prideclaw item is level 60 with fast riding; the Companion record is level 40 with Apprentice Riding and has speed capability tied to riding. This example is why one mount's requirements should not be applied to every promotional mount.
Rare drops professions and unknown sources
A model in the client is not a verified drop. Blizzard explicitly said that a recently datamined batch of art assets was not intended for this version. That does not remove every confirmed Forever mount; it means a model catalog cannot certify an acquisition route by itself.
Do not plan a launch farm around an assumed Stratholme drop chance, a Zul'Gurub raid mount or an Ahn'Qiraj opening reward without Forever evidence for availability and loot. Winterspring reputation routes and several newly listed colors likewise need current source confirmation before becoming shopping instructions. Unknown does not mean removed, guaranteed or obtainable today.
No fully confirmed crafted-mount recipe with final materials, profession rank and binding rules was established in the sources checked. Engineering, tailoring or another familiar profession is therefore not presented as a mount source merely because it crafts mounts in a later WoW version. The same caution applies to event and world-boss mount lists.
Speed collection and everyday use
A +60% speed bonus means 160% of normal running speed; +100% means 200%. On an uninterrupted route, moving from the former to the latter cuts travel time by 20%, not 40%. Actual journey time also includes stops, terrain and combat, so the fast mount is most valuable to characters who travel often.
Standard ordinary and Swift mount records have distinct riding capabilities. Do not assume that buying fast riding automatically upgrades every basic appearance. Some specific mounts scale by riding, such as the Companion, but that is not a universal Retail-style rule. The Forever Tauren racial Plainsrunning includes a 3% mounted-speed component; its presence is not proof that every old enchant, trinket and temporary speed effect stacks identically. Read the exact current effect before investing in a speed setup.
Mount items teach summon abilities and many records are marked account-wide. Blizzard confirms Collections across non-Hardcore rulesets; Hardcore later has one-way sharing outward, not imports from ordinary rulesets. Collection ownership and character eligibility remain separate. Budget training for each intended rider until a documented rule says otherwise; a learned appearance does not prove free lessons for every alt.
Binding is item-specific: an Empyrean Galestrider is listed as binding on use, while Spectral Bear reins bind on pickup. A collected mount is not an ordinary item you mail between alts. Check whether an unused item can be traded under its binding and ruleset conditions before sending or purchasing it.
The Galestrider summon records show a three-second cast, outdoors only and unusable in combat or while shapeshifted. Their raw spell level of 1 does not override the teaching item's level-40 or level-60 requirement. Mount before a dangerous crossing, rather than trying to cast during an attack. Exact damage-to-dismount odds, water behavior and battleground exceptions were not established here and should not be copied from another version.
A practical first mount plan
· Before level 40, reserve the reported training budget and identify your racial trainer. Keep money for essential character expenses.
· At the required level, check the lesson, included mount and final price. Learn the skill before buying an optional color.
· Use the home-race mount for ordinary travel. Pursue Exalted or supply currency for a specific appearance you want, not an assumed faster first tier.
· At level 60, compare fast training with your actual travel time and other expenses. Check the exact mount's riding capability before paying.
· Keep PvP, Legacy and class-quest rewards as separate projects with their own gates. Recheck beta-derived prices and vendor settings after launch.

Check the actual rider and reward before spending.
Frequently asked questions
What level unlocks the first mount in WoW Forever?
Beta mount items require level 40 for ordinary ground mounts and level 60 for fast mounts. The last ordinary beta cap was 30 and the beta is now closed. Treat these as pre-release requirements until the launch purchase is verified.
How much do riding and the first mount cost?
Developers reported 100 gold for the first training tier and 1,000 for the fast tier, with a first mount included. Extra ordinary colors are listed at 20 gold and fast colors at 200 in beta data. Discounts and final trainer quotes should be checked separately.
Can I ride another race's mounts?
Forever guides report Exalted with the relevant home faction for other racial mounts, subject to faction and riding permissions. This is not universal cross-faction access. Specific rewards such as Pack Kodo can have routes for both factions.
Are flying mounts available in WoW Forever?
No. Blizzard explicitly rules out flying mounts as part of Forever's design. Reaching level 60 does not unlock personal flight; taxi routes and other transport are separate travel systems.
