WoW Forever Overview: Release Date, Features and Confirmed Plans

World of Warcraft: Forever is a separate, permanent home for an expanded original Azeroth. It keeps the level 1-60 journey and adds regions, quests, dungeons and systems instead of sending characters through the familiar expansion sequence. It runs alongside modern WoW and Classic; it does not replace Classic Era.

The useful question is what you can plan around now. As checked on October 18, 2026, Forever is still in beta. Blizzard has announced a global launch on November 4 at 3:00 p.m. PST, which is November 5 at 02:00 Moscow time. The launch, the first raid opening and later updates are separate milestones.

This overview distinguishes published features from future plans. A confirmed announcement is evidence of Blizzard's current plan, not proof that an unreleased feature has already shipped unchanged.

Dates and access before launch

Milestone

Announced timing

What it means

Regular beta

September 17 through October 21

Selected opt-in invitations and eligible bundles; October 21 is the last full testing day

Public stress test

October 21

Limited open test, with no subscription, invitation or beta entitlement required

Early Name Reservation

October 27 through November 3, PST

Any upgrade pack; up to three characters, names first come first served

Global launch

November 4, 3:00 p.m. PST

Fresh level 1 start; ordinary access through WoW subscription or Game Time

First raids

December 9

A later opening, not launch-day raiding

The stress test was moved from October 19 to October 21 in Blizzard's October 16 update. Its published European start is 19:00 CEST, or 20:00 Moscow time. These regional test times should not be presented as the single worldwide launch clock. The test can finish earlier or later as needed, and its characters, names and guilds will be deleted afterward.

For the open test, use Battle.net's World of Warcraft Game Version menu and select World of Warcraft: Forever Stress Test under In Development. A regular beta license is a different entitlement. In particular, buying the Heroic Pack for Skyborne does not itself grant ordinary beta access; Epic and Collection do.

The beta began with a level 20 cap, with 30 announced for later testing. Neither is the live game's permanent level 60 ceiling. Do not treat an early beta content list as the complete launch roster.

The world and its four featured regions

Forever returns to the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor, with more than 1,000 new quests announced across the journey. Its story is positioned after Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom and before Molten Core. That setting does not promise a replay of the subsequent expansion timeline.

Region

Published role

What remains open

Zephras Isle

Skyborne starting experience, levels 1-12

Full route and reward planning should follow the live version

Riverglades

Frontier questing from the mid-30s to mid-40s, with over 150 new quests announced

A broad bracket is not an exact requirement for every quest

Shen'dralas

A hidden region between Mulgore and Desolace, linked to local history and centaur tribes

No precise level bracket is asserted here

Mount Hyjal

Recovering land after Archimonde's defeat, including Darkwhisper Gorge

Do not confuse the outdoor region with Hyjal Summit raid access

The design retains ground travel and fixed-level areas: Blizzard has explicitly ruled out flying mounts and level scaling. For planning, build a flexible route around your class, faction and group rather than assuming every new region is an obligatory leveling corridor.

Dungeons and the first raid opening

Nine new dungeons have been announced alongside familiar destinations. The official list includes Hall of Thanes, Ruins of Lordaeron, Excavation Site, City of Dalaran, The Drowned City, Krol'dok Stronghold, Alcaz Prison, Blackmaw Hold and Shaper's Terrace.

They cover the leveling journey as well as higher-level play. This is not a list of nine level 60 instances. Exact entry requirements, quest prerequisites and recommended party levels are different questions, so this overview does not turn early suggested ranges into hard entrance gates.

For December 9, the announced first raid roster is Barrow Deeps for 10 players, Hyjal Summit for 20 and the returning Onyxia's Lair for 40. These are planned openings. No claim is made that every familiar raid becomes available that day, or that Onyxia's mechanics will be identical to Classic Era.

For PvP, Blizzard has revealed Darkspear Islands, a 15-versus-15 battleground with control points and flag capture and defense. Its announcement does not establish every seasonal reward or a finished competitive balance.

Characters and class choices

Characters begin fresh; progress in other WoW versions does not supply an existing level 60 character for Forever. The nine original classes remain the foundation, with revised talents, abilities, racial traits and itemization. Old Classic builds and best-in-slot lists therefore need checking rather than automatic reuse.

The six added combinations for familiar races are Human Hunter, Dwarf Shaman, Gnome Priest, Orc Mage, Troll Warlock and Undead Paladin. Together, the factions gain access to all nine classes, but individual races still have class restrictions.

Skyborne is a separate optional race unlock. At creation, its Alliance version can choose Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Druid or Mage; its Horde version can choose Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Druid or Shaman. Five choices on either side are not permission to use both faction-specific casters on one side.

Class and racial tuning continues during beta. The October 15 development notes changed several racials, including replacing Human Sword Specialization with Ruthless. Availability is a firmer planning input than an early ranking of the strongest race or specialization.

Systems that support the journey

Camping and professions

Camping turns a roadside fire into a shared stop where nearby players contribute profession objects. Depending on those contributions, a camp can offer buffs, repairs, vendors or crafting facilities. The basic camp has three object slots; upgraded versions support five or ten. Players must pause at the camp to gain its benefits.

The profession update includes more than 600 new recipes across skill and character levels. Useful planning starts with what your group can contribute, not the assumption that a lone character can supply every camp service. Camps are temporary social facilities, not personal houses.

Legacy progression

Legacy Challenges award shared points, while each character allocates those points separately in Professions, Adventure and Resourcefulness trees. The announced launch structure allows up to 65 points earned but only 16 spent per character. Earning and spending caps must not be conflated.

There is also a cosmetic reward track. Its cosmetic milestones do not make every Legacy tree perk cosmetic: the trees include practical effects such as rested experience and gathering benefits. Do not interpret an older description of account-wide progress as one identical talent allocation forced on all characters.

Visual options and controls

Transmogrification is optional, including a setting to view others in their actual equipped gear. Modern and Classic visual presets, HD and SD character models, and official gamepad support have also been announced. These choices let players adjust presentation without turning Forever into modern WoW's ruleset.

Three systems with different purposes

Playing with friends without a realm list

Forever replaces traditional realm selection with Normal, PvP and Roleplaying rulesets at launch; Hardcore follows later. Each is a separate player ecosystem, not a toggle that lets an existing character freely move between them.

Ordinary parties, dungeons and raids require the same ruleset and faction. A shared Skyborne race does not allow Alliance and Horde characters to form an ordinary party. Battleground participation has its own cross-ruleset exception, excluding Hardcore.

Hardcore also has a one-way progression boundary: its achievements can carry outward, while progress from other rulesets does not flow inward. A dead Hardcore character can transfer to another ruleset. Pick the same ordinary ruleset and faction as friends before investing in leveling; otherwise another character may be necessary.

What is planned after the first raids

The published roadmap points toward spring and summer 2027 updates with additional raids, dungeons, world content and PvP refreshes. Profession and Legacy expansion are also part of the longer-term direction. These are announced windows, not exact patch dates or complete, immutable feature lists.

Hardcore is confirmed for after launch; a seasonal roadmap label is not a precise opening date. Similarly, the promise of more race and class combinations does not confirm a particular pairing or release day.

The intended permanent cap is 60. Continued progression means more activities and rewards within that world, not a guaranteed repeat of the expansion-level ladder. Claims about unannounced bosses, future loot tables or a fixed update cadence should remain outside a confirmed overview.

How to separate current facts from future plans

What to decide before buying or creating

Base access is included with a WoW subscription or Game Time. Skyborne Heroic adds the race and its starting experience; Epic adds beta access and other benefits, and Warcraft Forever Collection also includes Warcraft III: Reforged and Forsaken Kingdom. They are optional upgrades, not three required purchases. Housing decor listed in the bundles is for modern WoW, not evidence of a Forever housing system.

First decide who you will play with, then agree on faction and ruleset. Check whether the race you want supports your class and requires an upgrade. After that, decide whether temporary beta access or name reservation matters to you. Avoid paying for a benefit merely because a broadly worded edition summary seems to imply it.

Common questions

Is Forever the same as Classic Era

No. It is a separate project that expands original Azeroth. Classic Era's existing character options, progression and community are not automatically converted into Forever.

Is it free to play

Ordinary launch access requires a WoW subscription or Game Time. The limited October 21 stress test has a separate free-access exception.

Can name reservation be used to level early

No. It is a character creation and naming window, not early gameplay access. Desired names are not guaranteed, and stress-test names will be wiped.

Which details should be checked again before launch

Recheck the official schedule, edition contents, class changes and the ruleset your group selected. For later updates, wait for named content and dated announcements rather than filling gaps with datamining or guesses.
