WoW Forever: What to Do Before Release
WoW Forever preparation starts with three decisions: when your region can connect, which ruleset your group will use, and what you want your first character to do. Set those before spending time on a perfect leveling route or a large addon package.
Checked October 24, 2026. World of Warcraft: Forever is still pre-release. The beta closed October 23 at 10:00 a.m. PDT; its last level cap was 30. The latest independently extracted client is 1.60.1.70532, in the 1.60.1 patch family. That identifies pre-release data, not a final launch build or a currently playable live season. Launch progression is announced for levels 1-60.
Confirm the opening time and your access
Blizzard announces a worldwide opening on November 4 at 3:00 p.m. PST. The date changes east of UTC: in Moscow you start on November 5. Use the announced PST offset for this November launch, rather than carrying a PDT label forward from September publicity.
Time zone | Scheduled opening |
Pacific, PST / UTC-8 | November 4, 15:00 |
UTC | November 4, 23:00 |
Central Europe, CET / UTC+1 | November 5, 00:00 |
Moscow, UTC+3 | November 5, 02:00 |
Base access is included with a World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time. Use the intended Battle.net account and WoW license; an optional upgrade is not required for the base game. Check the subscription on that license, launcher region, password recovery and account security before launch night. Do not create another account merely because this is a separate game version.
Heroic and higher qualifying upgrades add benefits including Skyborne and Early Name Reservation. The checked upgrade benefits do not announce a separate paid gameplay head start. Epic beta access is no longer useful for testing now that beta has closed. Eligible Invite-A-Friend launch codes cover November 4-11; they are a limited access arrangement, not permanent free play or beta admission.
Install the correct client
In Battle.net, open World of Warcraft and select World of Warcraft: Forever in Game Version when available for your account. Follow the announced Install flow, then allow patching to finish. Do not plan around an old stress-test entry. A universal final installation size and a separate preload opening time were not confirmed in the checked announcements; use the launcher's current requirements rather than an invented gigabyte budget.
Keep enough free space for the requirement it displays and subsequent patching. Recheck the selected license and region before downloading. Complete any verification requested by Battle.net, then leave the launcher ready for another update. Preparing the client does not mean the world is already open.
Reserve names only if your account qualifies
Early Name Reservation runs October 27-November 3 for qualifying upgrades. You may create and customize up to three characters in total across rulesets during this window. This is not three per ruleset, and the reservation allowance is not a confirmed permanent character limit.
Reservation region | Local opening | UTC equivalent |
Europe | October 27, 18:00 CET | October 27, 17:00 |
North America | October 27, 13:00 PDT | October 27, 20:00 |
Korea | October 28, 07:00 KST | October 27, 22:00 |
Taiwan | October 28, 07:00 UTC+8 | October 27, 23:00 |
These regional reservation openings are different instants; they are separate from the global gameplay launch. Europe opens at 20:00 Moscow on October 27, North America at 23:00 Moscow that day. Blizzard gives the reservation window's closing date without a precise closing hour in the checked article.
Forever uses a two-part character name. The full combination must be unique within the region; another character can share the first name with a different second name. Prepare alternatives and check availability in the creator. Reservation does not provide questing, profession training or a stockpile of gold. Do not assume a reserved character will accumulate useful rested XP before gameplay begins. Stress-test characters, names and guilds were scheduled for deletion before reservation, so those creations are not a booking.

Prepare access and decisions before the world opens; name reservation is a separate step.
Agree on region, ruleset and faction
Forever replaces the traditional realm-selection screen with rulesets. Tell friends the exact region, ruleset and faction instead of circulating an old Classic realm name. Compare your connection to the intended region and the hours your group can play. A rumored population ranking is less useful than being able to join your actual party.
Ruleset | Launch decision |
Normal | General exploration and cooperation, with optional PvP participation. |
PvP | Choose deliberately for contested-world conflict and faction restrictions. |
Roleplaying | Choose for a community centered on character and world roleplay. |
Roleplay-PvP | Added to the launch plan on October 22; check its final detailed rules. |
Hardcore | Announced for after launch, not a November 4 starting option. |
Grouping, dungeons and raids require the same ruleset; Horde and Alliance cannot group together. Battlegrounds may mix rulesets, except Hardcore. You cannot freely move an existing character into another ruleset: plan to create a fresh character if you change your choice. The announced future transfer exception for a dead Hardcore character does not establish ordinary launch transfers.
On the PvP ruleset, an account is limited to creating one faction, and faction-balance controls can temporarily restrict creation. Normal and Roleplaying allow characters of both factions, without enabling cross-faction parties. Do not automatically apply the PvP creation restriction to the newly announced Roleplay-PvP ruleset: its detailed faction rules were not established in the checked update. Its availability during name reservation was described as a development plan; verify the actual selection screen.
Choose a preferred online language with your group as well. The account setting has a 24-hour change cooldown. Neither a language choice nor an addon bypasses faction or ruleset boundaries. Published queue lengths, numerical ruleset capacities and exact AFK-disconnect timers were not available in the checked launch information. Leave scheduling room for delays without promising a particular wait or using an AFK workaround.
Choose a character for the journey you will play
Keep the detailed race/class comparison in the character-creation guide separate from this checklist. Here, decide your preferred combat style, willingness to manage a pet or Mana, and intended dungeon role. A Hunter or Warlock may suit someone who wants a pet to help with ordinary pulls; managing that pet is still part of the job. A healer or tank choice is most useful when you actually want those responsibilities and coordinate with a group.
The announced class roster is Warrior, Paladin, Hunter, Rogue, Priest, Shaman, Mage, Warlock and Druid. The familiar races are Human, Dwarf, Night Elf, Gnome, Orc, Troll, Tauren and Undead, with upgrade-gated Skyborne added. Do not treat all race/class combinations as open. Forever adds Human Hunter, Dwarf Shaman, Gnome Priest, Orc Mage, Troll Warlock and Undead Paladin to the familiar restrictions.
Skyborne requires the appropriate upgrade: Warrior, Hunter, Rogue and Druid are available on both sides, with Mage on the Alliance branch and Shaman on the Horde branch. Its new Zephras Isle experience covers levels 1-12. Other characters should follow their actual starting quests, not a Retail introductory scenario. Check the creator's combination and faction before confirming a name.
Racial abilities have been reworked for Forever. Old Classic racial rankings or future level-60 damage simulations are not a sufficient reason to abandon the character you enjoy. Pick for a confirmed useful benefit, appearance and group compatibility; avoid presenting beta balance as a settled endgame ranking. Recheck late class changes before copying a build.
Prepare a flexible leveling plan
Plan the first quest area and the next training stop rather than scripting every pull to level 60. Forever has new quests and altered progression. Start with nearby quest clusters, finish objectives along a sensible loop, sell unwanted items and return to town when training and supplies justify the trip. Keep an alternative objective if a named enemy is crowded.
Dungeons are a practical option when the party, travel and available quests justify them. They are not automatically the fastest route for every class. October beta notes raised dungeon mob XP by roughly 20% and fixed an inappropriate group XP penalty; older reports about dungeon rewards should not be treated as current measurements. No universal launch multiplier or guaranteed hours-to-60 result is established here.
If leveling together, agree on starting areas and a meeting point before choosing different races. Check each member's quest completion rather than assuming every loot objective shares progress. Set a rule for catching up if someone disconnects or plays ahead. Use rested recovery when it becomes available after playable login; do not count reservation time as proven banked experience.
Legacy is a later progression milestone, not a starting bag of bonus points. Access begins with the first earned Legacy Point. A level-25 class challenge is one route; qualifying crafting at skill 150 and exploration offer others. Launch spending is capped at 16 points per character. The beta's test grants and cheap respecs are not a guaranteed launch entitlement. There is no need to create an army of alts merely to complete the system.

Separate character decisions, progression plans and conditional economy forecasts.
Pick professions and a realistic gold budget
Choose up to two primary professions, which may be gathering or crafting. You are not required to take two crafting professions. The nine primary options are Herbalism, Mining, Skinning, Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Engineering, Leatherworking and Tailoring. Cooking, Fishing and First Aid are secondary skills and do not consume those two slots.
The announced profession progression uses Apprentice, Journeyman, Expert and Artisan ranks; current profession guides place the full skill cap at 300, reached through later training requirements. Do not confuse the launch character cap of 60 with the last beta character cap of 30, or with profession skill. Learn the first rank from the relevant trainer after entering the world; plan where to stop rather than claiming you can train before release.
Pairing | Practical reason |
Herbalism + Alchemy | Gather ingredients for your chosen alchemical recipes. |
Mining + Engineering or Blacksmithing | Supply ore for the selected craft. |
Skinning + Leatherworking | Feed leather into a matching craft while questing. |
Tailoring + Enchanting | Consider cloth use and disenchanting alongside equipment needs. |
Two gathering professions | Collect sellable resources with less initial crafting investment. |
Choose a pairing you will use. Material sales may find early demand, but that is an expectation, not a verified price or profit rate. Competition, recipes and your time change the result. Do not unlearn a developed profession casually: replacing it costs progress. Also check Forever recipes rather than assuming old ones; current First Aid includes healing potions and curatives, not only bandages.
Camping is worth planning into travel. Cooking's Basic Campfire supports up to three added profession features, with each contributor adding one. Introductory features begin around profession skill 20 through the relevant introductions and trainers; advanced access is later. Benefits require time at the camp, not simply running past it. Coordinate who supplies a useful feature instead of detouring constantly for a theoretical bonus.
Auction House, trade, mail and guild banks are present in the checked economy information. Blizzard has also announced Temporary Economy Holds for accounts investigated for suspected RMT. This does not establish a blanket fixed-duration ban on all new players trading. Follow an actual account notice if affected; do not try to work around it.
For your first session, sell vendor trash, keep resources you will use and compare auction value with fees and travel time. Reserve gold for relevant training, supplies and your planned profession. Replacing every quest item at the Auction House can leave you short of useful basics. Launch market prices do not yet exist to substantiate a guaranteed gold-per-hour route. Use ordinary play and trade; exclude purchased gold, bots and exploits from the plan.
Prepare a small Forever addon setup
Addon support is demonstrated by Forever-specific releases, but API compatibility has changed. A familiar Retail or Classic folder is not proof that its contents work in client 1.60.1. Download the Forever flavor and check its version and recent changelog. These examples have publisher-listed Forever support; they are candidates, not a promise of flawless launch behavior.
Candidate | Published purpose and current release checked |
XE QoL Forever | Questing, bags, frames and other conveniences; 4.9.15, October 22. |
LFG Forever | Group-list filtering; Forever 1.60.1 release dated October 20. |
NeedToKnow Forever | Buff, debuff and cooldown timers; 1.0.27, October 8, for 1.60.1. |
Start with only the functions you need. Add quest or bag help first, then a small combat timer setup if your class needs it. Avoid several overlapping frame and auction modifications on the first night. If errors appear, disable the suspect addon and return to the standard interface before debugging. Recheck update dates at launch and confirm profiles survive a normal logout when playable access permits. No compatible addon grants cross-ruleset parties or automatically fixes queues.
Write a keybind plan now: movement, primary attack, interrupt or control, emergency defense, target selection, bags and interact. Set accessible graphics and sound options in available menus. Apply action-bar positions, camera distance, chat, nameplates and class-specific bindings after the first playable login if the reservation interface does not expose them. Test readability and one ordinary fight before importing an elaborate profile.
Coordinate the group and first session
Agree on region, ruleset, faction, starting time, voice channel and who will handle each dungeon role. Assign professions only if members want the work. Choose a meeting point that accounts for different starting areas; do not assume everyone spawns together. Identify a guild contact before launch and arrange recruitment, without assuming guild creation is part of name reservation.
Write down the minimum successful session: enter on the intended character, check the interface, complete the opening quest loop, learn planned gathering when convenient and reach the next sensible stopping point. Keep time for meals, breaks and account or server interruptions. A realistic two-hour block is more useful than promising friends uninterrupted access or a fixed level by midnight.

Keep the first session short, flexible and useful.
At the first playable login, verify the selected character and ruleset before investing progress. Make essential bindings readable, collect the local opening quests and follow a compact route. Learn planned professions when you reach their trainers, sell unwanted items and check party progress at a planned rendezvous. Attempt group content when everyone has the appropriate quests, level and time. Read server announcements and hotfixes before repeating a method that has changed.
Avoid choosing by an old tier list, copying an unchanged Classic route, installing an unverified addon pack or spending all early gold on equipment. Do not postpone the session for an unconfirmed future build, and do not chase a vanished beta-only reward. The preparation is complete when your access, companions and first useful actions are clear.
Frequently asked questions
When does WoW Forever release?
The scheduled global opening is November 4, 2026 at 15:00 PST / 23:00 UTC. That is November 5 at 00:00 CET and 02:00 Moscow. The beta has closed; name reservation has its own regional schedule.
What can I actually prepare before release?
Check account access, install and update the correct client when available, agree on region/ruleset/faction, choose a character and write a short leveling, profession and keybind plan. Eligible accounts can reserve up to three characters in total during the announced reservation window. Questing and earning gold wait for gameplay launch.
How should I choose a class and professions?
Choose a combat style and group role you want to play, then verify a legal Forever race/class combination. Select at most two primary professions that support your goals; gathering plus a matching craft is a practical option. Treat predictions about the best class or most profitable profession as provisional.
Which addons should I install for launch?
Use a small set explicitly labeled for Forever and recheck launch updates. XE QoL Forever, LFG Forever and NeedToKnow Forever have current Forever releases in the checked listings. Their published compatibility is not personal gameplay testing; keep a standard-interface fallback if an update causes errors.
