WoW Forever PvP Guide: Battlegrounds, Ranks and Rewards

Last Updated:19 Oct 2026

WoW Forever builds its PvP around battles in the open world and objective-based battlegrounds. Your first decision is how often you want outdoor conflict; your next is whether you are working toward equipment, a rank milestone or a battleground reputation reward. Those goals overlap, but they use different progress systems.

This overview was checked on October 19, 2026. Forever is still in beta. The October 1 build raised the ordinary beta level cap to 30, so level-55 armor and level-51 Alterac Valley access are progression information rather than activities available to an ordinary level-30 test character. Announced launch features, current beta values and unfinished matchmaking details are identified separately below.

Choose the ruleset with your group

Normal allows you to choose when to engage in outdoor PvP. The PvP ruleset automatically exposes you to conflict in contested or enemy territory. Roleplaying is another community option; a separate RP-PvP ruleset is not currently planned. Hardcore is scheduled for after launch and remains a separate ecosystem.

You do not need the PvP ruleset to enter battlegrounds. Matches may contain players from Normal, PvP and Roleplaying, but this does not allow friends to form a cross-ruleset group and queue together. Horde and Alliance also remain separate for grouping. Agree on the same faction and ruleset before creating characters for regular team play.

Rulesets are a lasting choice: free switching is not supported. On the PvP ruleset you can create characters for only one faction, and temporary character-creation restrictions may be used to support faction balance. That is a population measure, not a guarantee that every outdoor fight will have equal numbers.

World PvP has no fixed team size or scheduled start. An encounter near a quest objective can become a larger fight, and opponents may be much stronger than you. If you mainly want structured matches without that constant outdoor exposure, Normal is a sensible starting point.

Battleground formats and access

The announced lineup contains four maps. These level bands describe Forever's progression rules; they do not mean that every band is open in the current ordinary beta.

Battleground

Players

Level band

Main objective

Warsong Gulch

10v10

10-60

Capture the enemy flag and protect or recover your own

Arathi Basin

15v15

20-60

Hold bases to generate resources

Darkspear Islands

15v15

30-60

Hold four capture points and deliver the central flag

Alterac Valley

40v40

51-60

Fight over strategic objectives and the enemy commander

Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin and Darkspear Islands use leveling brackets, with a separate level-60 bracket. Alterac Valley's listed band is 51-60. Do not assume that entering at the minimum level gives you the same tools or equipment as everyone else in that bracket.

Queue through a battlemaster in a major city or the appropriate outdoor battleground portal. The battlemaster is the practical first stop when you want to see which maps your character can enter. Read the current queue and quest requirements rather than treating an old screenshot as proof of access.

The map should shape your decisions. In Warsong Gulch, escorting your carrier or recovering your flag can matter more than winning an isolated duel. In Arathi Basin, leaving a defended base empty to chase a retreating enemy can cost recurring resources. In Alterac Valley, coordinate the next objective instead of assuming that the shortest rush always produces the best return.

Darkspear Islands combines territory and flag play

This new battleground lies off Dustwallow Marsh. The first team to reach 2,000 points wins. Holding more of its four capture points increases passive scoring; bringing the central flag to a base your team controls adds points.

The two objectives support one another. A flag runner needs somewhere to deliver, so abandoning every base to contest the middle can undermine the capture. Conversely, defending useful territory gives the team a reason to bring the flag home. Before joining a large fight, check whether it protects a scoring position or only follows the crowd.

Horde players build standing with the Darkspear Raiders; Alliance players work with the Theramore Expeditionary Force. Their camps in the Barrens provide portals, quests and reputation vendors: the Horde camp is at the Merchant Coast, while the Alliance camp is at Northwatch. Rewards include equipment and consumables at different standing requirements. At Exalted, a short questline awards the faction's exclusive tabard; reaching the standing alone does not automatically place it in your bags.

Keep Honor and rank progression separate

WoW Forever PvP Guide: Battlegrounds, Ranks and Rewards

Different PvP progress systems

The announced progression uses Honor and Rank Points; this guide does not assume a Conquest vendor, a Conquest cap or conversion between those systems.

Honor is spendable currency. Rank Points advance a non-spendable rank track. Battleground Marks are map-specific purchase or turn-in requirements. Reputation is another gate for particular vendors. A single match can help more than one goal, but progress in one column does not waive the others.

Battleground victories award three Marks for that map, while losses award one. Some items need particular Marks alongside Honor. Before turning Marks in for experience or reputation, check whether the same tokens are needed for your next purchase.

Honor limits and useful spending

Players earn Honor through PvP activities, including player kills, battlegrounds and relevant quests. Highlighted battleground holiday weeks provide increased returns. Holiday bonuses are worth checking, but a faster Honor source is not automatically the fastest route to a specific reputation or item token.

The October 1 beta update raised the Honor holding cap from 15,000 to 25,000. Most PvP gear and upgrade-token Honor prices also rose by approximately 50%. The cap is the amount you can hold, not a weekly earnings allowance. Old price lists should be rechecked rather than multiplied mechanically: the change did not say every item increased by exactly the same percentage.

Blizzard has also described rebalancing Honor across maps, with Alterac Valley less lucrative relative to the other battlegrounds. No reliable universal Honor-per-hour winner follows from that announcement. Queue times, match outcomes, map objectives and holiday bonuses affect your session.

Spend toward an actual improvement before reaching the holding cap. Saving for a late reward can be reasonable, but continuing to earn while capped risks wasting progress toward purchases. Buying an Honor item does not spend your Rank Points or lower your rank.

Ranks unlock purchases rather than deliver free equipment

There are 14 ranks, ending at Grand Marshal for Alliance and High Warlord for Horde. This is progression through Rank Points, not an arena rating or a weekly contest for a fixed number of top places. Specialist beta guides describe no weekly decay within a season.

A weekly ceiling limits rank progression. The published beta table lists 24,750 total Rank Points for rank 14, with rank 3 reachable in week one and rank 14 from week ten. The exact week-by-week schedule originated in datamining and remains provisional. It is not a promise that ten weeks of any amount of play will earn the final rank.

The officially announced reward gates are:

Rank

Purchase unlock

1

Tabard

2

PvP trinket

3

Cloaks

4

Necklace

5

Combat potions

6

Another tabard

7

Battle standard

8

Epic wrist and waist upgrade tokens

9

Epic feet upgrade token

10

Epic hands upgrade token

11

Mounts

12

Epic legs and shoulders upgrade tokens

13

Epic chest and head upgrade tokens

14

Epic weapons

Unlocking a vendor option is not the same as buying or using it. Check the price and every item requirement, including character level, riding or faction restrictions where listed. The rank-11 mount gate does not establish that every mount is free, usable at any level or an arena-season reward.

How the equipment upgrade works

The rare Honor armor is not gated by PvP rank; the beta guide lists level 55 to wear it. Epic armor upgrades use the corresponding blue piece and an Emboldened Seal, with rank requirements attached to purchasing the seal. Budget for the base piece, the appropriate seal and the displayed Honor or Mark costs.

Do not treat the epic upgrade as a purely cosmetic switch. The official description establishes rare and epic equipment, while an older overview speculated that Elite variants would only change appearance. The later official announcement takes precedence. Check the actual stats for your specialization instead of assuming a complete PvP set is automatically your best PvE outfit.

Rank progress is visible in the Character Pane's Player vs. Player tab. Use it to compare your current points and unlocks with a vendor goal before committing to another long session.

Seasons and Legacy have different persistence rules

Seasonal ranking is intended to refresh between seasons or content cycles. The reviewed beta guides describe a rank reset, while the exact season length and final reset details remain unsettled. Do not turn an estimated season duration into a deadline or assume that Honor balances, every title and every item follow one identical reset rule.

The official seasonal journey contains weekly tasks awarding Honor and Rank Points. Three tasks each season also grant a Legacy Point. Blizzard explicitly says these Legacy-linked tasks remain available to complete in future seasons. That does not establish that every old shop item will remain on sale forever.

The announced PvP category offers 12 Legacy Points: five for ranks 3, 7, 10, 13 and 14; four for Exalted battleground reputations; and three for the week-4, week-7 and week-10 Field of Honor quests. These are account-progression goals, not another vendor currency. PvP Legacy Challenges cannot be completed in Hardcore.

If your priority is a permanent Legacy objective, identify that challenge separately from a current-season equipment goal. Weekly availability limits and a season reset are different constraints: reaching this week's ceiling does not mean all useful PvP activity has ended, and missing a week should not be confused with automatic weekly rank decay.

Matchmaking plans and the limits of rated PvP

WoW Forever PvP Guide: Battlegrounds, Ranks and Rewards

Announced matchmaking approach

In the October 15 PvP podcast, Blizzard described matching full premade teams against other premades, while keeping solo players and small groups together. Coverage published on October 18 says the small-group threshold was still being decided, potentially around two or three players. That is an announced approach, not a guarantee of the exact behavior of every beta queue.

The checked material does not establish a rating-based matchmaking formula, a fixed waiting time or whether long queues can relax these restrictions. Do not import Season of Discovery's fallback rules into Forever without confirmation.

Rated arenas, rated battlegrounds and modern Solo Shuffle are not confirmed launch routes in this overview. Joining an ordinary battleground alone is a solo queue action, not evidence of a separate rated solo mode. A community duel tournament also does not establish a permanent public arena ladder or Gladiator reward system.

Check the current ability before choosing a PvP build

PvP recommendations must reflect the current class trees, racial changes and the fight you expect. A dungeon damage setup can omit control, escape or protection that matters against players. Equally, a successful duel setup is not automatically the strongest choice for carrying a flag or supporting a battleground team.

The October 15 notes contain practical examples. Orc Shatter Curse now dispels Curses and Banes rather than granting immunity, and its magic-damage reduction is 5%, previously 15%. Wands require half a second stationary before firing. These change decisions about surviving pressure and moving between attacks; old Classic descriptions are insufficient.

System restrictions also matter. Legacy's High Alert improves stealth detection outside battlegrounds; do not budget that bonus into a match. For Great Honor increases Honor gains, but is not announced as a Rank Point multiplier.

This overview does not establish a separate modern PvP-talent panel or a complete list of PvP damage modifiers. Read current tooltips and Forever-specific changes for your chosen abilities. No universal class tier list follows from low-level beta duels, and a tournament's private rules are not the general game's restrictions.

A practical route for your first sessions

WoW Forever PvP Guide: Battlegrounds, Ranks and Rewards

Four steps for starting PvP

1. Agree on faction and ruleset with your regular group, then check the maps available to your level.

2. Pick one useful reward and record its Honor, Mark, rank, reputation and use requirements.

3. Learn the map's scoring objective, protect teammates doing that job and review the current holiday or journey tasks.

4. Check points, token balances and vendor requirements after the session; spend deliberately before the Honor cap.

Judge the next session by the progress you actually want. An extra duel, a flag return and a reputation turn-in can all be useful, but they solve different problems. Choose the activity whose result advances your goal without relying on an unconfirmed launch feature or an outdated beta price.
