WoW Midnight Invasion Points: Val, Naigtal and Rewards
Midnight's Invasion Points, usually called Showdown areas in current guides, are the rotating destinations Val and Naigtal. Introduced with patch 12.0.7, they combine quests, rare enemies, treasures, local events and world-boss encounters. You enter through a portal and choose the available difficulty rather than simply walking into another part of Quel'Thalas.
This guide was checked on October 17, 2026 for Midnight Season 2. It covers access, movement, difficulty, a practical visit and the rewards worth checking now. Release-era gear promises are separated from later changes, so the old outdoor Myth reward is not presented as a source of current-season Myth equipment.
Question | Short answer |
Which destinations are included? | Val and Naigtal |
How often do they change? | Weekly, at the regional reset |
Can both be selected freely? | No, the active destination follows the rotation |
Which modes are documented? | Normal and Heroic World Tier |
Is flight available inside? | No; plan ground travel and local transport |
Choose a goal before entering: finishing access quests, improving a new character, working on a weekly objective or collecting appearances. This makes it easier to decide when a detour is useful and when a visit is complete.
Unlocking access and finding the portal
Start in Silvermoon
Speak with Riftblade Maella near the outdoor-activity hub in Silvermoon City. The introduction includes Stalkers of the Stars and Veterans of the Great Dark, leading into the currently active world. Finish that area's introduction through to its base camp. A quest title associated with the other destination is not a universal prerequisite for both routes.
Each world has its own introductory progress. When the rotation changes, follow Maella's available quests for the other destination. Once the relevant introductions have been completed, Maella offers skip options for subsequent characters.
Portal locations
The original entrance is in Voidstorm, south of the portal back to Silvermoon. The later area guide also documents a Silvermoon entrance behind the Field Accolade vendors. These coordinates are navigation aids, not a replacement for completing the introduction.
Entrance | Coordinates |
Voidstorm Showdown portal | 51.4, 71.3 |
Silvermoon Showdown portal | 48.0, 48.1 |
Interact with the portal, inspect the active destination and select the difficulty. If the expected option is missing, check your introduction and quest log before searching the other world. Repeatedly entering will not change the weekly rotation.

A short access checklist
Val and Naigtal compared
Naigtal is a fungal, arcane-rich world occupied by the Hal'hadar ethereals. Val is a frozen world dominated by hostile Void forces. Both use the same broad activity structure, but their terrain and enemy placement reward separate route planning.

The two Showdown destinations
Naigtal
The world-boss encounter involves Nexus-Captain Leth'ir and Adjutant Mertei, linked by a shared health pool. Dense camps and paths around large mushrooms can make a short map distance misleading. Look for a safe approach before chasing a rare marker through several enemy groups.
Unlock the available local travel tools as you progress. Ground travel remains important even when the area offers shortcuts; do not plan a route that depends on flying over an obstacle.
Val
Imperator Pertinax is the world boss in the southern Void Acropolis area. Storms can apply a stacking movement penalty; leaving the affected area or dealing with nearby storm elementals helps it dissipate. A route that stays inside the storm while adding enemy groups can become dangerous quickly.
Check the way back as well as the way in. A clear approach to a boss is useful only if the group also has space to handle mechanics without pulling nearby enemies.
Normal or Heroic World Tier
The portal interface offers Normal and Heroic World Tier. Current published guidance describes selecting Heroic after access is established; do not treat an old PTR achievement requiring a world-boss kill as a mandatory live unlock.
Mode | Suitable starting goal | Main caution |
Normal | Introductions, learning routes and easier objectives | A low-risk route is still safer than pulling several groups |
Heroic | Harder objectives and Heroic achievement criteria | Stronger enemies, empowered effects and elite patrols |
The checked area guides recommend item level 274 for Heroic. This is a readiness guideline, not proof that a character at that number can solo every encounter. Consider your defensive toolkit, damage, group support and experience with the route.
Heroic enemies may have additional modifiers, and elite patrols can search for or ambush players. Before opening a large pull, inspect enemy effects and leave room to retreat. A defensive ability used before incoming damage usually helps more than an offensive cooldown pressed after the situation is already out of control.
The documented live choices are Normal and Heroic. Early database strings or test achievements are not sufficient evidence for a playable Mythic World Tier.
What to do during a visit
Take the objectives first
Collect the active weekly quests before leaving the base camp. Follow the requested mix of activities rather than assuming all kills grant the same progress. Read whether the objective requires a particular difficulty, different world quests or specific rare enemies.
A useful visit combines nearby objectives: complete a world quest, join a suitable event and tackle a needed rare along the same safe route. If a group forms for the world boss, compare that opportunity with your current objective instead of abandoning every nearly completed task automatically.
World bosses
Check which encounter is active and join a group on the same difficulty. Allow players to arrive before pulling, clear the space and watch for patrols approaching from behind. A group formed for Normal is not automatically prepared for Heroic.
After the kill, loot and inspect quest progress. A completed kill and eligibility for another equipment reward are different things; repeating the boss does not necessarily repeat the same weekly reward.
Rares, events and treasures
Use the achievement tracker to identify what is still missing. Repeating an already completed rare may help a currency goal, but it will not replace a different named enemy required by an achievement. Similarly, a requirement for different world quests is not satisfied merely by repeating one familiar objective.
Return to camp when necessary rather than stretching a failing pull into several deaths. The introductory questline provides a recall tool for the active base camp, while additional local travel options depend on completed quests.

A practical visit in three decisions
Rewards in Season 2
The strongest reason to check the season label is that the areas contain a mixture of updated progression rewards and older equipment. The official Season 2 notes describe the following changes.
Source | Season 2 treatment |
Rare equipment | Adventurer 1/6 on Normal, Adventurer 4/6 on Heroic; Warbound Until Equipped |
World quests, rares and elites | Season 2 Adventurer crests in both modes |
World-boss and weekly-quest crests | Adventurer on Normal, Veteran on Heroic |
Original world-boss equipment | Remains Season 1 and can no longer be upgraded |
Knocking off the Top (Heroic) equipment | Remains Season 1 and can no longer be upgraded |
Field Accolades also support vendor purchases. Season 2 removed the old gear caches and added Adventurer Warbound caches for 200, Veteran personal caches for 500 with a random slot, and slot-specific Veteran caches for 750. Inspect the actual vendor item before purchasing, especially when using an older guide beside the game.
Do not confuse a currency award with a guaranteed equipment drop. Likewise, an available weekly objective does not establish that its older gear is an upgrade for your current character.
The four-emblem quest
Knocking off the Top (Heroic) asks for four Void Commander's Emblems and offers a choice of cloak, belt or bracers. It became known as an outdoor Myth-track gearing route during the first season. Its equipment remains Season 1 in the later official notes.
Do not turn “four emblems” into an unconditional four-week waiting period. Heroic world bosses and qualifying Heroic weekly quests can provide emblems, and catch-up opportunities affect the schedule. Read the current quest and the eligible rewards before deciding how long your character needs.
This is a reward objective, not the general access quest for the two worlds. Complete it when its reward, appearance or quest progress matters to you, rather than treating it as a required current-season equipment upgrade.
Achievements and collection goals
Three meta-achievements link the areas to mount purchases. The achievement unlock and the vendor purchase are separate steps.
Meta-achievement | Associated mount |
A Trip Around the Stars, centered on Val | Voidmancer's Starcarver |
A Trip Through the Stars, centered on Naigtal | Netherforged Nullframe |
Heroic Showdowns | Tortured Gorger |
The zone metas combine story progress, storms, rare enemies and world quests. Heroic Showdowns adds Heroic-specific objectives, including both world-boss encounters, different empowered-enemy effects and the required rare or world-quest criteria. Track the exact achievement rather than relying on a general “clear the map” routine.
Kifaan sells collection rewards in the base camps. Other vendors offer weapon appearances, armor looks and housing decor. Check the required achievement and currency in the vendor window; a garbled or old web price should not determine your farming target.
Troubleshooting and efficient planning
Problem | First check |
The desired world is unavailable | The weekly rotation |
The portal or quest is missing | The relevant introduction and Maella's dialogue |
Heroic enemies overwhelm you | Difficulty selection, patrols and group readiness |
A kill did not advance the tracker | Named target, required difficulty and existing credit |
The reward looks weaker than expected | Season, upgrade track and equipment eligibility |
For a short session, choose one achievable result and finish it. For a longer one, group nearby missing criteria and leave the opposite world's objectives for its active week. Once the useful weekly rewards and collection goals are done, there is no need to keep killing random enemies just to maintain a routine.
Frequently asked questions
Can I enter both worlds in one week?
The active destination follows the weekly rotation; the portal is not a free selector for both worlds.
Is Heroic intended for a fresh alternate character?
Normal is the safer starting point. The Heroic recommendation is much higher, and patrols or modifiers can still punish an equipped character.
Do I need a world-boss kill to unlock Heroic?
Current access guidance uses the portal's difficulty selection. The boss-kill achievement came from test-era descriptions and should not be imposed as a live prerequisite.
Does the emblem quest award current-season Myth gear?
The later official notes retain its equipment as non-upgradable Season 1 rewards. Judge it accordingly.
