WoW Midnight Mount Guide: Sources, Rewards and Collecting Routes

A mount shortlist becomes much easier to use when every entry answers one question: what will actually move me closer to owning it? In Midnight, similar-looking creatures can come from a campaign quest, a Renown vendor, a seasonal rating achievement or a boss with random loot. Those are very different commitments, even when the reward belongs to the same family.

This guide maps the main collecting routes across quests, exploration, Renown, Delves, Prey, dungeons, raids, PvP, professions and world activities. The reference point is Season 2 and patch 12.1.5, checked on October 15, 2026. It is a practical selection of rewards and acquisition rules rather than a claim to catalogue every mount added during the expansion.

Start with a completion reward you can work toward directly, then add a longer project. Glyph hunting can fit around campaign travel, while a preferred faction's Renown gives you something to build over several sessions. Put a rating mount at the top only if playing that competitive mode is already part of your plan.

Know what kind of progress you are making

A defined reward is not automatically an easy reward. A raid achievement may need coordination, and a vendor mount can require substantial Renown. The distinction is that completing the stated condition has a known outcome. Another random-drop attempt can end without adding anything to the collection.

Quest and exploration mounts worth checking first

Crimson Dragonhawk is a clear starting point for players who enjoy flying around the expansion. Its source is Midnight Glyph Hunter, so follow the achievement's complete glyph checklist across the relevant zones. Finishing a single local section does not necessarily complete the overall reward.

Relinquished Scarlet Charger comes from Relinquishing Relics in Arator's Journey. If you have not played through that part of the campaign, follow the story rather than searching for an isolated quest giver out of sequence. Dusk Grimlynx offers another story route through History Lesson, an early quest in Curse of Ula'tek.

Harandar collectors can work toward Vivacious Chloroceros through Treasures of Harandar. Keep that separate from Vivid Chloroceros, the moth-related vendor mount. Similar names are not evidence of interchangeable acquisition methods.

Ivory Grimlynx is tied to Allied Race: Haranir. Treat it as a reward for completing the allied-race unlock rather than a creature to hunt for a random drop. Checking the achievement first can save a long and entirely unproductive farming session.

Add rares without making them the whole trip

Cerulean Hawkstrider and Cobalt Dragonhawk are random rewards associated with Eversong Woods rares. They make sensible additions to a route that already includes local quests. They do not make a reliable promise that a particular number of kills will produce both mounts.

Track eligible attempts separately from rare appearances. Seeing the same enemy again does not itself prove that your character can receive the relevant reward again. Keep one-time treasure checklists separate too: completing a treasure once and making another daily rare attempt are different types of progress.

Renown mounts: unlock the purchase and reserve the currency

Renown is a useful route for collectors who prefer visible progress to repeated random drops. Reaching a milestone opens the purchase; it does not remove the currency cost. The following prices are per mount, paid in Voidlight Marl.

Fierce Grimlynx is an important exception to the apparent pattern: the Hara'ti unlock is Renown 16. Do not delay checking the vendor simply because several other factions place their first mount at 17.

Zul'jarra's Forces also offer Indigo Coiled Horror at Renown 17 for 6,000 Voidlight Marl. Spirit of Tok'jara follows a different route. Renown 10 unlocks a six-quest chain with day-based progression, so reaching the milestone starts the process rather than immediately awarding the mount.

Reputation projects can sit alongside the main Renown track. Umbral Dragonhawk comes from Life of the Party and requires work with all four Silvermoon noble factions. High standing with the umbrella faction alone is not the same requirement. When choosing weekly support at Saltheril's Soiree, consider the effects on the other groups as well as your immediate preference.

Delves and Prey: separate purchases from challenges

Solo-focused collectors have several distinct routes. Journey progress, a particular treasure and a Nemesis victory should each have their own line on your checklist.

Published catalogues disagree about Corroded Soul Crusher's purchase currency and price. Its unlock and vendor are consistent, but use the actual vendor window to settle the transaction rather than budgeting around a disputed number.

Patch 12.1.5 adds Loa-Blessed Wayfarer as another solo objective. The relevant achievement requires defeating Kindo'jan in the Labyrinth of Kindo'jan on Tier 11, with no other players in the party, during Season 2. An Azta'rec victory or a group Labyrinth completion does not substitute for that requirement.

Build toward these challenges by unlocking the system and becoming comfortable at a suitable difficulty. Learning the encounter and bringing appropriate defensive tools is more useful than repeatedly entering the hardest version before your character or execution is ready.

Dungeon and raid rewards use different rules

Mythic+ rating rewards

Season 2 awards Breath of Blight at a Mythic+ rating of at least 2,000 and Breath of Ruin at at least 3,000. These are seasonal rating thresholds, not instructions to clear one dungeon at a specific key level. Season 1 progress does not earn the corresponding Season 2 reward.

If the first mount is your immediate objective, work out a realistic path to 2,000 before adding the larger target. Running a dungeon for its boss mount is a separate activity from completing the seasonal rating achievement, even when both use related content. Keep the correct season's achievement visible while planning your runs.

Patch 12.1.5 adds a higher milestone: 3,600 rating for Midnight Keystone Myth: Season 2 and a Timelost Saddle. The saddle is exchanged with Lindormi for a selected reward. Check the current vendor inventory: this is a separate acquisition route, not the original achievement from an earlier season.

Boss drops, achievement groups and weekly progress

Lucent and Spectral Hawkstrider have a specific official restriction: they are unavailable while their dungeons are outside Midnight's Mythic+ pool. Standard Mythic drops outside a seasonal rotation are due to return in the next expansion. Being able to enter the dungeon does not mean these mounts are currently obtainable.

Three Primeval Skyfriends per Ula'tek kill does not mean one for every raider. Agree on distribution before committing to the run. Crimson Venomfang needs a different kind of preparation: read the achievement criteria, select an appropriate difficulty and coordinate the group's actions.

Start Luminous Sporeglider early if you want steady weekly progress. Additional kills on other difficulties in the same week do not replace four separate weekly rewards. This is a useful example of a collection goal whose schedule cannot be shortened simply by repeating the encounter.

PvP: progress-bar mounts are not Gladiator mounts

Vicious Lightbloom Boar is the Season 2 rated-PvP progress-bar reward, with Alliance and Horde versions. Fill the bar through qualifying rated wins at 1,000 rating or higher. Reaching that rating is the entry point for progress, not an instant mount award.

Venomous Gladiator's Goredrake requires 50 wins in rated 3v3 while at Elite rank, at 2,400 rating or higher, during Season 2. Merely touching 2,400 is not sufficient. Playing only Solo Shuffle does not satisfy the specified 3v3 requirement either.

Before choosing this as a collection project, consider whether you can play regularly with a team. A PvE-focused collector may find it a substantial separate commitment. Do not transfer Gladiator requirements to the Vicious reward, or assume that progress on one automatically completes the other.

Coiled Isle and outdoor activities

The Coiled Isle supports several goals you can combine geographically without confusing their requirements. Auriferous Venomfang comes from Treasures of the Coiled Isle. Ruby Writhe and Topaz Skyfang can drop from rares. Emerald Skyfang instead requires 250 Temple Patrols in the Vaults of Atal'Utek.

Treasure completion does not replace patrol credit, and rare kills do not fill that counter. Keep the long patrol objective visible and pair it with activities you want to do for other reasons. That makes a large collection target easier to sustain without expecting every session to finish it.

World events and separate achievement tracks

Amani Sunfeather and Blessed Amani Burrower are sold by Chel the Chip through Abundance. The current reference price is 1,600 Unalloyed Abundance each. That currency needs its own budget; it is not an additional Voidlight Marl purchase.

Unbound Manawyrm requires both Void Response Team and Ritual Site Disruptor before the 6,000-Marl purchase from Sergeant Vornin. Joining a single Void activity is not the whole unlock. If outdoor content is your preference, check which criteria remain in each achievement and work on those deliberately.

Patch 12.1.5 also offers Corrupted Swarmer from Estelia Archtender in Silvermoon for 2,500 Voidlight Marl at Exalted with Aqir Invasion. This is a reputation purchase tied to the new invasions, distinct from the rewards of an individual event.

Showdown activities have their own rewards too. Voidmancer's Starcarver is associated with A Trip Around the Stars, Netherforged Nullframe with A Trip Through the Stars, and Tortured Gorger with Heroic Showdowns. Their achievements unlock purchases from Kifaan; simply visiting the zones does not award the mounts. They make better projects once you have access to the required content and understand its objectives.

Profession routes and a major gold purchase

Nether-Swept Drake is a fishing reward in Voidstorm. Oceanic Vortex pools are a practical place to target, and the specialist guide recommends 300 Midnight Fishing. Treat that number as preparation advice, not a confirmed hard eligibility gate or a promise that a particular cast will succeed.

Rope Lynx Harness is crafted by Leatherworkers and can be obtained through Crafting Orders. You do not need to learn Leatherworking purely to commission it. Check the recipe's components first, particularly Broken Lynx Leash from Ritual Site treasures: finding a crafter does not remove the need for a rare component.

Sporebearer Fungal Strider, introduced in 12.1.5, belongs in a different budget category. The base purchase in Harandar costs 5,000,000 gold and includes mailbox and repair services. An auctioneer unlock costs another 1,500,000 gold; a transmogrifier costs 500,000. Buying all of those options totals 7,000,000, but that is not the compulsory price of the mount itself.

Blizzard has limited the mount's sale to the end of Midnight. Access to the interchangeable service NPCs and their purchases will continue beyond that point. The expansion deadline is different from the end of Season 2. If those utilities are not useful to you, less expensive collecting projects may be a better use of your gold.

Check old rewards before adding them to a current route

Calamitous Carrion and Convalescent Carrion belonged to Season 1 Mythic+ rating. Umbral Ashes was awarded for finishing in the regional top 1%, while Galactic Gladiator's Goredrake was a Season 1 PvP reward. As of this guide's check date, their original seasonal conditions cannot be completed as fresh Season 2 objectives.

Pre-expansion event rewards, including Light-Forged Mechsuit, also need confirmation of a returning source before they belong on a daily farming list. Holiday mounts have their own windows. Sun Festival's Painted Roc is associated with Lord Ahune's reward during Midsummer rather than a boss you can farm throughout the year.

An old source is not automatically a removed source. A seasonal rating achievement can close while the dungeon itself remains accessible. Special loot restrictions still apply, as the two Hawkstriders demonstrate. Check the individual reward's restriction instead of assuming every mount introduced in the same patch shares one availability rule.

Make a weekly plan you will actually use

Choose three targets: one completion reward, one accumulation project and one random drop. For each, record the exact condition, boss or vendor, currency and attempt schedule. If a group is necessary, put that requirement on the list immediately.

Handle weekly rewards early, such as the next Delicious Sporesnack from Rotmire. Then work on the Renown or seasonal track you have selected. Fit treasure hunting and quests into flexible sessions, and give random-drop attempts a defined portion of your play time rather than an unlimited claim on the evening.

Before buying, make sure the relevant variant is not already learned. After collecting a mount, remove its source from the active route and redirect your resources toward the next objective. A useful plan reduces unnecessary repeats and preserves time for the activities you enjoy.

What is a sensible first target without raids or PvP?

Check Crimson Dragonhawk through glyph collection, Relinquished Scarlet Charger through Arator's story, or a preferred Renown purchase. Review existing campaign and achievement progress before starting a completely new project.
