WoW Midnight Patch 12.1.5 Overview: Activities, Rewards and Upgrades

Last Updated:18 Oct 2026

Midnight 12.1.5 is a mid-season expansion of your existing options: a story conclusion, a single-boss raid, a larger Delve format, an hourly outdoor event and another equipment-upgrade system. It continues Season 2 rather than starting a new season or making every existing activity obsolete.

The update launched during the week of October 13, 2026. This overview was checked on October 18, after release. The important distinction is between content already available and progression scheduled for the following reset. Ascendant Venomstones and the removal of the crest cap belong to the week of October 20, after the required research and unlock quests.

WoW Midnight Patch 12.1.5 Overview: Activities, Rewards and Upgrades

Compare the three main activity formats

You do not need to pursue every path in one session. A returning character can start the permanent unlocks, collect a useful reward from familiar content and then test one new activity. A raid-ready character may prioritize the new encounter while preparing Orin's research in parallel.

Campaign and The Unbinding of Kith'ix

The Promise of Tomorrow continues the consequences of Ula'tek's defeat. The fragile relationship between Quel'Thalas and Zul'Aman now faces the ancient C'Thraxxi general Kith'ix, whose restraints have weakened. The new raid is part of that story rather than an unrelated extra boss.

The Unbinding of Kith'ix is a single-boss raid beneath the Venomous Abyss. Lady Liadrin participates in the confrontation. Story Mode, Normal, Heroic and Mythic offer different ways to approach it; Mythic supports a flexible group of 15-25 players.

One boss does not mean that preparation is unnecessary. Choose a difficulty appropriate to the group and review its actual mechanics before entering. A story-focused visit and a Mythic progression session serve different purposes, so do not treat their difficulty or rewards as interchangeable.

Follow the campaign when your main goal is the narrative. If your group is assembling for raid progression, confirm the selected difficulty, available roles and each player's access before committing the evening. This overview does not replace an encounter strategy or promise a particular item from a kill.

Labyrinth of Kindo'jan: a longer Delve adventure

The first Labyrinth is a nine-chamber Amani funeral complex, with Valeera Sanguinar accompanying the player. It has its own progression, secrets and rewards. Think of it as a larger exploratory activity built on Delve ideas, not simply a standard Delve with a larger final boss.

The entrance is north of Amani Pass in Eversong Woods. You can follow the campaign route or begin The Labyrinth through Kul'amara the Fierce at Tokka's Landing. The introductory sequence leads to Valeera and Dangers Untold and Hardships Unnumbered. Complete the initial chamber and follow Kinduru's guidance to open further access for your Warband.

Chambers provide intermediate progress and rewards, so a shorter visit can still be useful. Completing three chambers unlocks the next difficulty under the current progression rules. A full clear and the deeper challenge require a different time commitment from an introductory visit.

Do not assume a saved run between sessions

As checked on October 18, leaving for an extended period does not preserve the unfinished run. Current post-launch reporting warns that you can return to a reset instance. Short disconnect recovery is not the same as a permanent checkpoint.

Set aside enough uninterrupted time when pursuing a full-clear achievement or the final challenge. Permanent unlocks and accumulated progression are different from the current run's chamber state. You can return to the activity later without assuming that the same unfinished route will still be waiting.

Before entering, decide whether the session is for learning, partial rewards or a full clear. That choice makes it easier to judge when to stop and prevents a flexible activity from becoming an unexpectedly rushed commitment.

Aqir Invasions: the hourly outdoor option

Aqir Invasions take place in Eversong Woods or Zul'Aman, with the active zone rotating weekly. An invasion begins at the top of the hour. The first ten minutes contain public objectives; an Aqir Monstrosity then appears, with up to another ten minutes to defeat it.

The advertised ten-minute window describes the objective phase, not necessarily the entire event including its boss. Check the map and current event state before traveling. Arriving after the objectives end can put you into the boss phase rather than a fresh ten-minute sequence.

There are six scenario types, split between three combat and three non-combat formats. Combat scenarios can receive one of eight affixes. These can introduce protective enemies, burrowers, moving Void hazards, swarms or other complications. Follow the active objective instead of assuming that every invasion is solved by attacking the nearest large group.

The first Monstrosity kill of the week awards an Aqir Research Satchel with Champion equipment and other resources. Further participation supports Aqir Research Enclave reputation and related catch-up rewards. A repeatable event does not mean that its weekly equipment package is awarded on every kill.

Use the event as a scheduled option around other plans. If your next organized activity starts soon, compare the remaining objective and boss time with the time needed to travel back. Do not turn a short outdoor visit into a missed raid start.

Separate bonus rolls from Ascendant Venomstones

Orin Straylight near the Catalyst in Silvermoon handles two related but distinct systems. Nebulous Voidcores buy an extra loot roll after eligible content. Ascendant Venomstones improve an eligible item you already own. A bonus roll is not an equipment upgrade, and a Venomstone does not create a new item.

Follow the staged progression schedule

The introductory chain begins with In the Catalyst's Shadow from Decimus in Voidstorm, then Prismatic Potential from Orin. After research, Umbral Blessings of the Catalyst unlocks the additional weekly Voidcore purchase using an offered resource. Inspect your current quest state rather than assuming that the calendar alone completed the chain for you.

As of October 18, the Venomstone acquisition step is still scheduled ahead. Prepare the research now, then return after your region's maintenance for the week of October 20. The dates above identify reset weeks; they are not a promise of one simultaneous worldwide unlock hour.

Eligible activities and items

After the final unlock, Venomstones come from Heroic or Mythic raid bosses, Mythic+ at +10 or higher, Tier 11 Bountiful Delves and Nightmare Prey Hunt Champion gear chests. The activity requirement and the unlock requirement both matter.

Collect ten stones and use them near the Silvermoon Catalyst on a fully upgraded Season 2 Hero-track or Myth-track weapon, trinket or necklace, or an eligible maximum-quality Tidal crafted item in those slots. Ordinary armor slots are outside this list. Already elevated item-level 344 equipment is not a target for this conversion.

WoW Midnight Patch 12.1.5 Overview: Activities, Rewards and Upgrades

Check an item before spending Venomstones

Compare the upgraded item's actual value before spending. A weapon or trinket can be attractive, but the correct choice depends on what you own and expect to replace. Removing the crest cap removes a limit on earning crests; it does not make upgrades free or remove their other requirements.

Faster Prey progression for characters behind

The current catch-up rules are more generous than the early preview. Characters below rank 4 receive 4,000 Journey progress per hunt, equivalent to a full rank. That rule takes precedence over the normal first-four-hunts weekly progress bonus rather than stacking with it.

For the next catch-up band, listed as ranks 4-9 in the current notes, the first four hunts of the week award 2,000 progress each. Check the character's current eligibility in the interface as its rank changes. Do not apply the lower-rank bonus indefinitely after leaving its range.

For example, four eligible hunts at 2,000 progress each provide 8,000 progress through that weekly rule. This is arithmetic for eligible hunts, not a guarantee that every character will remain in the same bonus band for all four. Afflicted and Tormented Souls must now be used between hunts rather than during an active hunt.

The optional Harandar utility mount

Sporebearer Fungal Strider is a gold-purchased utility mount with two configurable NPC positions. Its base purchase unlocks mail and repair services; an auctioneer and transmogrifier are separate unlocks. Choose the passengers you want rather than expecting all four services simultaneously.

Purchase

Gold cost

Mount with base utility access

5,000,000

Transmogrifier unlock

500,000

Auctioneer unlock

1,500,000

Mount plus both additional unlocks

7,000,000

The total is a purchase calculation, not a mandatory cost to participate in the patch. The mount is intended to remain for sale during Midnight; access to the interchangeable NPC unlocks is intended to continue afterward. That does not establish a specific calendar deadline for the expansion's end.

If you are saving gold for equipment or consumables, keep that budget separate. The mount offers convenience and collection value, not a required combat-power increase. Buying only the base mount is a different decision from buying every service immediately.

Interface, housing and Warband improvements

Legion and Battle for Azeroth reputations become shared across the Warband. For players returning to older collections, this can change which character is convenient to use, but it does not mean that every old quest or unrelated unlock has been completed automatically.

Housing gains floor-switching keybinds, with Page Up and Page Down as defaults, easier Blueprint Collection access and clearer blueprint information. Public Neighborhoods should no longer receive the same Endeavor twice consecutively. These changes are useful to check before rebuilding a familiar editing routine.

The base interface adds optional coordinates below the minimap, including integer or decimal display. Raid frames gain clearer dispel indicators, macro pings can use #showtooltip information, and Audio Assist gains a configurable low-health pulse. Adjust these to what you can read and hear comfortably; more animation is not automatically better visibility.

Class changes also deserve a quick check before reusing an old talent setup. Review the changes for your actual specialization, then test the spell bar and keybinds. A patch overview cannot turn a tuning list into one universal recommendation for every role.

A practical first-session order

Start by checking the campaign and Orin's current quests. Then choose one activity according to your available time: a group raid, a planned Labyrinth visit or the next invasion. Review the resulting equipment before spending resources, and return for the scheduled Venomstone unlock after maintenance.

Does the patch replace Season 2?

No. It adds mid-season content and progression to the existing season. Continue using activities that still provide useful equipment or goals.

Can every fully upgraded item use Venomstones?

No. The system has slot, season, track and quality restrictions. Check all of them, not just the number of stones in your bags.

Can a full Labyrinth run be split across evenings?

Do not plan on a saved unfinished run under the rules checked here. Separate permanent progression from the current instance and reserve uninterrupted time for a full-clear goal.
