WoW Midnight Ritual Sites: Tiers, Challenges and Rewards
Ritual Sites are WoW Midnight instances for one player or a group of up to five. Complete the objectives, disrupt the ritual, defeat the final enemy and open the chest. Their defining feature is the choice of difficulty and Challenges: selected mechanics change the run while increasing the Spoils available.
The system arrived in Patch 12.0.5, with Tier 6 added in 12.0.7. This guide was checked on October 16, 2026 for Patch 12.1.5 and Season 2. Encounter rules are separated from historical seasonal rewards; old crest and item-level figures should not be treated as present-day guarantees.
The format resembles Delves, but there is no Delve companion. Solo characters need their own survival, interrupts and recovery tools. A group can distribute those jobs, although bringing five players is not a condition of entry.
Find the entrance and unlock Renown
One site is active each week, rotating between Eversong Woods and Zul'Aman. Check its map icon. Entrance coordinates identify where to go; they do not mean both instances are available simultaneously.
Site | Entrance in its outdoor zone |
Daggerspine Point, Eversong Woods | /way 34.9 65.4; naga and Lady Selen'vjar's ritual |
Broken Throne, Zul'Aman | /way 29.7 78.2; cultists and Faithbreaker Ger'lok |
Interact with the Curious Obelisk to select a tier and Challenges. In a party, the leader chooses the settings. Before entering, everyone should understand the selected mechanics: an unfamiliar Challenge can change safe positioning or introduce dangerous extra enemies.
Entering a run and unlocking the Renown track are separate matters. For Renown, check the introduction that starts with Ranger Captain's Summons and includes Ritual Interest. If the track is missing, check that quest chain rather than assuming repeated runs alone will resolve it.
Six tiers and minimum Challenge counts
Completing a tier unlocks the next. Challenges are not entirely optional at higher difficulty: you choose the combination, but must meet the required minimum. Unlock enough options before attempting to move up.
Tier | Minimum selected Challenges |
1 | 0 |
2 | 0 |
3 | 1 |
4 | 2 |
5 | 4 |
6 | 6 |
Tier 6 requires six Challenges selected before entry, not six separate events completed beforehand. You can enable all eight for a particular achievement, but that is a separate objective. Ordinary Tier 6 entry does not automatically require the maximum set.
When Tier 6 launched, Blizzard recommended item level 274 and kept its Great Vault reward at the same step as Tier 5. Those are historical 12.0.7 conditions. For a current character, use the Obelisk's tooltip and the reward displayed by the Vault rather than carrying forward the old Season 1 item-level figure of 269.

The eight Challenges
Every Challenge adds a mechanic and increases Spoils. The percentages below come from Blizzard's description and the specialist table; they are not a promise that every item category increases by the same percentage. Crest types, for example, depend on difficulty rather than simply the total Challenge bonus.
Challenge and Spoils bonus | Mechanic and unlock route |
Tendrils, +10% | Leave the marked area before it triggers. Unlocked through a find in Ritual Spoils |
Manifestations, +15% | Dangerous spirits appear; interrupt their actions promptly. Unlocked through progression and Ranger Captain Lilatha's quest |
Magical Alarm Bells, +13% | Kills summon additional forces. Requires tier progression and a Silvermoon quest |
Malevolent Boons, +20% | Obelisks empower enemies; destroy the source. Unlocked through the obelisk investigation quest |
Tainted Corpses, +10% | Kills leave dangerous ground effects. Find a sample at a Tainted Bone Pile inside a site |
Reinforced, +15% | More enemies populate the instance. Unlocked through progression and Thin Their Ranks |
Patrols, +15% | Elite patrols appear. Unlocking the option involves finding special treasures |
Embers, +25% | Some enemies and the final boss are empowered. Find the item that starts Questionable Power |
Some original unlock tier requirements decreased over time. If an option is unavailable, check its current tooltip and unfinished quests. Advancing one difficulty level should not be assumed to unlock every Challenge automatically.
For early attempts, select combinations you understand. Tendrils and corpse ground effects demand movement, while additional enemies and Alarm Bells make large pulls harder to manage. If several conditions prevent safe recovery, reduce pull size or change the combination. A large theoretical bonus is useful only in a run you can finish.
Spoils, deaths and the final chest
Spoils accumulate during the run and influence its final reward. The interface tracks both Spoils and deaths. The first two deaths carry no Spoils penalty; each subsequent death removes 5%, capped at 50%. This is a penalty against the original Spoils total, not repeated multiplication of the remaining amount by 0.95.
For example, with 1000 pre-penalty Spoils and six deaths, four deaths are penalized. The reduction is 20%, leaving 800. Twelve deaths reach the 50% cap. This calculation describes Spoils, not an equal reduction to every item category in the chest.
Finish the objectives and final fight, then loot the Ritual Chest. Its reward pool includes Field Accolades, Voidlight Marl, Coffer Key Shards and other system rewards. Spoils-to-Accolade conversion is generally described as approximately ten to one, but review the actual reward rather than treating that as an exact formula for every resource.

Ritual Sites also advance the Great Vault's World row. That is a separate weekly reward, not another immediate chest after the boss. Before committing to a long series of runs, check the progress and reward tier shown in the Vault itself.
Eight Renown ranks, not six difficulty tiers
Renown is continuing system progression; difficulty is the setting for an individual run. Unlocking Tier 6 does not automatically grant Renown 6. Complete sites and use appropriate progression items such as Ritual Reports as you receive them.
Renown rank | Main benefits |
1 | Healing orbs can appear during combat |
2 | Small treasures become available inside sites |
3 | Rae'ana opens part of her decor stock |
4 | Rare enemies appear and healing orbs become stronger |
5 | Shrines and additional treasures become available |
6 | Vornin's pets unlock and healing orbs appear more often |
7 | Larger treasures, additional shrines and the Dark Obelisk decor purchase unlock |
8 | Void-Touched Hawkstrider purchase and more dangerous rare enemies become available |
These benefits matter within the instance. Healing helps preserve Spoils, treasures reward exploration, and vendor access gives currency a specific purpose. A Renown rank is not valuable only when it immediately replaces a weapon.
Vendors and Season 2 purchases
The main hub is on the Bazaar's upper level in Silvermoon, around /way #2393 48.3 49.6. Vendors use different currencies and unlock conditions. Reaching a Renown rank does not also pay the purchase price.
Vendor | What to check |
Maren Silverwing | Loot-specialization equipment; exchange 100 Dark Particles for 10 Field Accolades |
Triam Dawnsetter | Uncollected appearance caches and themed weapon pouches |
Sergeant Vornin | Mounts and pets bought with Marl after relevant unlocks |
Rae'ana | Marl-priced decor with Renown requirements |
In Season 2, Maren's offerings use Adventurer and Veteran tracks instead of the original Champion and Hero tracks. A Warbound selected-slot Adventurer item costs 100 Field Accolades; random Veteran gear costs 500, and selected-slot Veteran gear costs 750. One version's transfer property does not apply to the other. Compare the tooltip with the intended recipient's needs.
Triam's cosmetic armor caches cost 5 Field Accolades and 150 Marl, while weapon caches cost 10 and 200. These award random uncollected appearances of the relevant type, not a guaranteed model themed for the opening character's class. Learn the result before buying the next cache.
Mounts, pets and decor: choose a collection goal
Ritual Sites combine vendor rewards with discoveries inside the instances. Choose a target before entering: preparing for a hidden encounter is different from planning an ordinary quick completion.
Goal | Acquisition or preparation |
Void-Touched Hawkstrider | Renown 8 and 4500 Marl paid to Vornin |
Void-Corrupted Hex Eagle | At Broken Throne Tier 2+, find the missing candle, restore the ritual circle and summon the enemy |
Void-Touched Snapdragon | At Daggerspine Point Tier 2+, check Washed Up Kelp; the desired enemy is not a guaranteed spawn |
Witherbark Warbear Mother | Prepare six Practically Pork: one to obtain Chubs, five for the mother after combat |
Void-Corrupted Lynx | Connected with Leatherworking, Rope Lynx Harness and Broken Lynx Leash |
For the eagle, the in-instance landmarks are /way #2585 51.5 47.8 for the candle and /way #2585 50.6 47.3 for the circle. For the warbear, start with the Lost Bear Cub around /way #2585 55.8 49.6, obtain and learn Chubs, then summon the pet near the meat piles at /way #2585 55.8 38.8. Bringing six food items covers both feedings; five are insufficient if you do not already have the pet.
Vornin's Renown pets unlock at rank 6. Other companions come from discoveries, enemies or crafting, so one acquisition method does not cover the whole collection. Rae'ana's first decor purchases unlock at rank 3, while the Dark Obelisk requires rank 7. Reserve Marl for the intended decor if you are also collecting mounts.
The Unbound Manawyrm is a separate 6000-Marl purchase with outdoor and Ritual Site achievement requirements listed on its current item card. It is not the Renown 8 mount, the Void-Touched Hawkstrider. If the Manawyrm is your goal, also review Void Assault progress and Vornin's purchase tooltip.
Tier 6 quests and special achievements
Patch 12.0.7 added quests requiring Tier 6 runs with specified Challenges. The official notes describe six advanced quests and extra bonus rolls on weeks three and six. That was a Season 1 reward arrangement, not a promise of a current weekly core for any completed run.
Pinnacle Ritual Work requires both sites completed at Tier 6 with all eight Challenges active. It awards the Ritual Breaker title; the achievement description says it becomes a Feat of Strength at the end of Midnight. This goes beyond ordinary entry requirements. Learn each mechanic first, then combine the full set. Achievement attempts and routine currency collection can reasonably use different settings.

Frequently asked questions
Can I complete Ritual Sites solo?
Yes. They support 1-5 players, but do not provide a Delve companion.
How many Challenges does Tier 6 need?
At least six selected before entry. All eight are needed for the separate achievement.
Are Renown and difficulty the same track?
No. Runs have six difficulty tiers; Renown has eight progression ranks.
Should I immediately enable every Challenge?
Only if you can handle that combination. Repeated deaths reduce Spoils, so consistent completion is more useful than a large displayed bonus followed by frequent failures.
