What Are Heirlooms in MoP Classic?

In MoP Classic, heirlooms are account-bound gear pieces that grow stronger as your character levels and often grant bonus experience. This makes leveling alternate characters much easier. You can equip heirlooms in several item slots:

  • Helm, shoulders, cloak, chest, legs

  • One-hand, two-hand, ranged weapons

  • Trinkets, rings, off-hands, shields

XP-boosting slots include shoulders, cloaks, chests, legs, and the ring — for up to 50% total XP bonus. Once owned, heirlooms appear in your account’s collection tab and can be duplicated for unlimited characters. They don’t need repairs, saving you gold while leveling.

WoW MoP Guides

How Heirlooms Work in MoP Classic

Gear Scaling

Heirlooms scale with your level. A cloth chest might start with basic stats at level 1 but scale up with powerful bonuses by level 80.

Armor Type Flexibility

Mail pieces act like leather below level 40. Plate behaves like mail until level 40. This helps classes like Hunters or Paladins gear up early.

Account-Wide Collection

Once unlocked, heirlooms become part of your collection. To preserve enchantments, mail the enchanted version directly instead of creating a new one.

XP Bonuses Explained

Each of the five major armor slots grants bonus XP — up to 50% total. If you own the Dread Pirate Ring, it adds an extra 5%.

Heirlooms offer real advantages for anyone serious about leveling efficiently. They’re a long-term investment that pays off as you build up your roster of characters.

Changes to Heirlooms in MoP Classic

WoW Classic updates old mechanics for modernized gameplay, and heirlooms are no exception. In MoP Classic, they have several upgrades:

  • New Slots: Legs, shields, off-hands, and a PvP Battlemaster trinket are now heirlooms.

  • Improved Scaling: Heirlooms now scale up to level 85. Upgrade costs vary and include Justice Points, Honor Points, or Darkmoon Prize Tickets.

  • Flexible Enchanting: Any enchantment can now be applied to heirlooms. High-level enchants scale down, so no more farming outdated ones.

These changes elevate heirlooms beyond just "bonus gear." They're essential for smooth and effective leveling — especially for alternate characters. And while heirlooms are powerful, they’re still not as fast as custom services like Monkey Runs.

Prioritizing Heirlooms for Leveling

To level faster, invest in XP-boosting items first.

Recommended XP Priority Order:

  1. Heirloom Legs – +10% XP (Guild only)

  2. Shoulders – +10% XP

  3. Chest – +10% XP

  4. Dread Pirate Ring – +5% XP

  5. Helm / Cloak – +10% XP total (Guild only)

Once XP gear is acquired, prioritize weapons next, followed by trinkets, then shields / off-hands for secondary gear slots.
