This Mists of Pandaria (MoP) Classic Hunter guide will cover all the essential aspects of Hunter gameplay. You’ll learn about the latest class updates, abilities, talents, BiS gear, and stats. Additionally, we’ll cover consumables, optimal professions, and the best races for MoP Classic Hunters.

WoW MoP Guides

Mists of Pandaria Classic Hunter Updates

Surprisingly, MoP Classic didn’t bring major changes to Hunters in terms of abilities—Beast Mastery, Marksmanship, and Survival remain largely unchanged.

However, there are key improvements:

  • Ranged weapons are now equipped in the Main Hand slot.

  • Minimum range restriction has been removed.

  • Hunter attacks cannot be parried, making positioning in boss fights less critical.

Pets have become more impactful, with improved abilities like combat resurrection (Eternal Guardian) or a Bloodlust replacement (Primal Rage). Endgame content, such as Mogu’shan Vaults, now heavily relies on your pet, making pet-oriented builds much stronger.

Mists of Pandaria Classic Hunter Leveling

All three specs are viable for leveling, but Beast Mastery is the easiest due to pet support.

Leveling Strategy:

  • Pull targets with Multi-Shot.

  • Let your pet tank using Beast Cleave.

  • Shoot from a distance while your pet handles damage.

Stat Priority for Leveling:

  1. Agility

  2. Hit & Expertise (up to 7.5%)

  3. Critical Strike

  4. Haste

  5. Mastery

Recommended Heirlooms for Hunters:

  • Inherited Cape of the Black Baron

  • Tarnished Raging Berserker's Helm

  • Champion Herod's Shoulder

  • Champion's Deathdealer Breastplate

  • Swift Hand of Justice

For faster leveling, consider dungeon leveling or questing with a team.

Mists of Pandaria Classic Hunter Best Spec

Choosing the right spec depends on your goals:

  • Beast Mastery (BM): Strong single-target and multi-target DPS; excellent pet control; limited self-healing.

  • Marksmanship: High single-target damage; requires experienced play and pet management.

  • Survival: Versatile, mobile, and durable; good for both single-target and AoE encounters.

Endgame Tip: Survival and Beast Mastery are currently S-tier for raiding and dungeon runs.

Mists of Pandaria Classic Hunter Abilities

Each spec has unique core abilities:

  • Beast Mastery: Bestial Wrath, Kill Command (pet-focused burst).

  • Marksmanship: Aimed Shot, Chimera Shot (raw ranged power).

  • Survival: Explosive Shot, Black Arrow (DoT and trap-based playstyle).

Mists of Pandaria Classic Hunter Rotation

Single Target Rotation:

  1. Apply Hunter’s Mark before the fight.

  2. Maintain Serpent Sting (or refresh with Cobra/Steady Shot).

  3. Use Kill Shot when target <20% HP.

  4. Core abilities on cooldown:

    • BM: Kill Command

    • Marksmanship: Chimera Shot

    • Survival: Explosive Shot

  5. Major cooldowns: Bestial Wrath (BM), Rapid Fire (Marksmanship), Black Arrow (Survival), Readiness

  6. Level 90 talents on cooldown: Glaive Toss, Powershot, Barrage

  7. Use Arcane Shot for excess Focus

  8. Regenerate Focus with Cobra Shot (BM/Survival) or Steady Shot (Marksmanship)

Multi-Target Rotation:

  1. Apply Hunter’s Mark to main target.

  2. Spam Multi-Shot to maintain:

    • Beast Cleave (BM)

    • Serpent Sting (Survival, with Serpent Spread)

  3. Use Explosive Trap on cooldown (Survival).

  4. Level 90 talents aligned with packs: Glaive Toss, Powershot, Barrage

  5. Use Kill Command (BM) or Explosive Shot (Survival) for priority targets.

  6. Maintain Focus with Cobra/Steady Shot.
