Maxing Splatter improves the versatility of your goo, as it lowers the cooldown, increases damage, enlarges the radius, and grants you more bounces to maximize your impact.
Tips for Splatter
This ability is one of Viscous' most versatile tools. Use it for poking, controlling areas to slow enemies, or cutting off their retreat paths during fights. The puddles stay on the ground for a long time, so use them to dictate movement during engagements.
The Cube (2)
Encase the target in a cube of restorative goo that protects from damage and increases health regen. The target is unable to take any new actions while cubed. Can be used on yourself. Press [SPACE] to escape early.
Stat | Value |

Maxing The Cube improves the movement speed and stamina recovery for yourself or your allies, reduces the cooldown, and enhances the health regen. This makes it a vital tool for saving yourself or teammates in tight situations.
Tips for The Cube
One of the key uses of The Cube is protecting allies who are channeling abilities, like Seven and McGinnis, ensuring they can complete their ultimates without interruption. It’s a crucial tool for keeping your team alive during critical moments.
Puddle Punch (3)
Materialize a fist in the world that punches units in the area and sends them flying. Enemies will be dealt damage, have their dash distance reduced for a brief moment, and have their movement slowed. This is considered a Light Melee attack.

Tips for Puddle Punch
Spend time practicing around the map to feel out the different angles that your Puddle Punch can reach. You’ll find that you can knock enemies off high ground, launch your allies into key positions, and more. Get creative with how you use this ability to control the battlefield!
Goo Ball (4)
Morph into a large goo ball that deals damage and stuns enemies on impact. The ball grants large amounts of Bullet and Spirit resist, bounces off walls, and can double jump.

Ability Point Order
How to Counter Viscous
- Laning Phase: Avoid standing near walls where you can be knocked toward the enemy by Puddle Punch. Try to position yourself so that you’re knocked sideways at worst.
- Goo Ball: Don’t fall for Viscous' Goo Ball form. Their goal is to distract and create chaos, so focus on priority targets instead of getting fixated on the ball.
- The Cube: When The Cube is used during a team fight, look for an opportunity to engage while the enemy is "cubed," as they will be healing. Just be mindful that once the cube ends, the enemy will re-enter the fight fully healed.

Deadlock Viscous Build
Viscous is a nuisance to the enemy team, and with this build, we get just enough damage to not be ignored, but more than enough survivability to make enemies think twice about focusing you. This build focuses on Viscous’ disruptive potential while ensuring he remains a tough target to bring down. By combining damage, crowd control, and tankiness, Viscous can both engage in the thick of battle and provide a safe haven for allies.
Early Game
Melee items work exceptionally well with Viscous' Puddle Punch (3), making these items incredibly valuable early on. Prioritize picking them up as soon as possible, starting with Extra Charge, Melee Lifesteal, and Spirit Strike, in no particular order.
A key tip many players overlook is that last hitting minions with Puddle Punch will instantly secure souls from a range on kill. If you’re having trouble last hitting, High-Velocity Mag is a great early purchase, or you can use Puddle Punch charges to help secure those souls.
Spirit Strike reduces the target's spirit resistance, which can set up your Puddle Punch (3) followed by Splatter (1) with Mystic Burst for an insane early-game burst combo.
Finally, finish off your early build with Extra Health and Mystic Reach to maximize both survivability and damage output.
Item | Cost | |
---|---|---|
Extra Charge | 500 | |
Spirit Strike | 500 | |
Melee Lifesteal | 500 | |
Mystic Reach | 500 | |
Mystic Burst | 500 | |
High Velocity Mag | 500 | |
Extra Health | 500 |
Mid Game
Start by picking up Kinetic Dash and Divine Barrier to gain an advantage in early fights, along with a massive boost to your fire rate. These items are incredibly useful for roaming and securing easy kills with your ultimate in nearby lanes. Divine Barrier has recently received a buff, granting you temporary shields, ability range, and a movement speed boost. It’s a perfect fit for Viscous’ kit.
Next, focus on farming neutrals and catching waves to save up for your first 3000-soul item, Lifestrike. This item will become your main source of DPS and significantly boost your clear speed. While working towards Rapid Recharge and Hunter's Aura, Lifestrike will give you the damage needed to clear waves quickly.
While Viscous is strong in the early game, he often requires some farming in the mid-game to get both 3000-soul melee items. If you have extra souls or need to spike before an important mid-game fight, Berserker and Healing Booster are excellent choices.
Item | Cost | |
---|---|---|
Divine Barrier | 1250 | |
Kinetic Dash | 1250 | |
Healing Booster | 1250 | |
Berserker | 1250 | |
Lifestrike | 3000 | |
Rapid Recharge | 3000 | |
Bullet Resist Shredder | 1250 | |
Hunter's Aura | 3000 | |
Warp Stone | 3000 | |
Torment Pulse | 3000 |
Late Game
The mid-game foundation and Viscous’ ultimate provide us with enough armor to survive, but as the game progresses, that won’t be enough. At this point, I focus heavily on survivability.
Viscous excels at grabbing attention and kiting enemies, but to do so effectively, we need to survive for as long as possible.
In the late game, our focus shifts toward increasing our tankiness by purchasing Spirit Armor and Bullet Armor. Upgrade these to the improved versions as necessary.
If the game is going well and we have the souls, I recommend choosing between Colossus and Phantom Strike. Both are extremely valuable, but the choice depends on the enemy team composition. Phantom Strike is ideal for countering flyers, while Colossus seems to work better against a team of bruisers.
Item | Cost | |
---|---|---|
Colossus | 6300 | |
Phantom Strike | 6300 | |
Headhunter | 3500 | |
Improved Burst | 3000 | |
Superior Duration | 3000 | |
Improved Spirit Armor | 3000 | |
Improved Bullet Armor | 3000 |
Situational (Standard)
Reactive Barrier is extremely valuable against heroes like Bebop, Abrams, and Dynamo. If you’re laning against these heroes, I highly recommend purchasing this item as soon as possible to improve your survivability and resist their damage.
Item | Cost | |
---|---|---|
Reactive Barrier | 1250 | |
Healbane | 1250 | |
Debuff Reducer | 1250 | |
Duration Extender | 1250 | |
Bullet Armor | 1250 | |
Spirit Armor | 1250 |
Situational (Movement)
If you're feeling sluggish and need more mobility, feel free to purchase Extra Stamina or Superior Stamina to enhance your movement and give you the edge in positioning during fights.
Item | Cost | |
---|---|---|
Extra Stamina | 500 | |
Superior Stamina | 3500 |
Situational (Support)
If you find yourself leaning more into a Support role, Viscous can excel with these items, providing utility and sustainability for your team while still being a presence in fights.
Item | Cost | |
---|---|---|
Divine Barrier | 1250 | |
Health Nova | 1250 | |
Restorative Locket | 1250 | |
Rescue Beam | 3000 |
